  1. A few more albums released in 1993 - Jellyfish - Spilt Milk Goo Goo Dolls - Superstar Car Wash Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way Motorhead - Bastards and my wife would kill me for not mentioning - Kate Bush - The Red Shoes
  2. Fair enough - personally I've never heard a rock song I would rate 0/10. The point I was trying to make to Tim is that none of the songs on Planet 3 are worth zero. I'm happy with the way I rate albums - IMO it's a fair way to rate albums and certainly last year it was only way I could separate some albums. Not that rating albums is that important to me but it is interesting at the end of the day. Cheers Have you ever heard some of those dance type remixes that Warrant and Ratt did on Latest & Greatest and Collage? I'd rate those 0 for sure or maybe even -1 if I could. Well for me The Birdie Song is 0/10, and every rock song Ive heard is better than that so I rest my case ;-) As for Warrant....I can understand people comparing it to Cherry Pie will be disappointed, but then Cherry Pie is an awesome slab of melodic hard rock and to be fair most things pale against the song writing and sheer energy of that album. Rockaholic as an album written and played in 2011 is a pretty good effort in my book. Granted there are a few fillers, but there are also some very good songs and as said previously Mason sounds great - cant wait to see them at Firefest - should be a blast! Cheers

  4. Dont you use a bike ;-) today - Warrant - Rockaholic Outloud - Love Catastrophe
  5. That is the definitive way of looking at it, but realistically most people use relativities to score their reviews. I.e, scoring an album versus others. For example, one of my all-time fave discs is that PLANET 3 album but it has 2 songs that are total shite (added on later with a different vocalist), and 8 other absolute MONSTER tracks. I would rate that album higher than pretty much everything else in my collection, even albums that have no filler tracks whatsoever (like perhaps the first 2x Harem Scarem discs). Using your scoring approach I'd rate the PLANET 3 about 80% with the HS discs in the 90's, but that isn't doing it any justice whatsoever. That said, I don't think I'd rate anything 100% either, but stuff like DARE "Out of the Silence", EUROPE "Out of this World", TREAT "Dreamhunter", STRANGEWAYS "Walk in the Fire", CLIFF MAGNESS "Solo", HAREM SCAREM (first 2) would all be around the 97/98/99% mark probably... But I hardly EVER rate a song lower than say 5 or 6/10. I mean at the end of the day you are reviewing a rock album and even 'shite' songs are generally still OK and listenable. Lower than 5 or 6/10 would be reserved for dance music/rap/jazz or shit like that. Whilst you set a standard for 10/10 you still have to set a standard for 0/10. I mean those 2 songs on yr Planet 3 album for example are not going to be 0/10 songs are they?? So if you do love those other 8 that much (?)...........you have say 80 + 5 + 5....which would be 90% and then that score probably would do justice to an album with 2 fillers. Capiche...............?

Most will be familiar with this band and their debut offering 'We'll Rock You To Hell.....'. It was a solid debut with 2 amazing standout tunes 'We Run' and 'Tonight'. The rest of it whilst good didnt really do it for me and with so much excellent new music about it kind of fell back into 'the pack' so to speak. Well Im glad to report that this sophomore release is much better. Things start out shakey with ''We Came To Rock'....about as cliched title as you could get and whilst the song is OK, it completely rips off the chorus from 'Out In The Night' from the debut. However after that things are much much better. Tracks 2-5 are all excellent and definitely up to the quality of the stand outs on the debut. 'Someday' is then a laid back ballad which is OK....followed by another 4 great tracks. Really melodic stuff on offer here with some great solos to boot. So if you were disappointed with the debut dont be put off and check this out as it is a great effort in my book. Cheers
  7. Yeah backed on that. Raiders remains awesome tho.
  8. How many of those were about Crystal Palace?? ;-) Nice work mate - cheers
  9. Brother Firetribe - False Metal Dynazty - Knock You Down

Why is it no one mentions the actual track 'Back On Track' ?? The chorus could be stronger I suppose, but overall the song absolutely kicks arse.
  11. Ha yeah I couldnt believe it either, was on there about an hour after lol!!
  12. At the beginning of the year I predicted that my album of 2011 would be a straight clash between Work Of Art and Toby Hitchcock solo......this hasnt changed. Both are gonna be awesome I reckon.

  14. Yeah was out today wasnt it.....good??
  15. North America’s progressive metal masterminds SYMPHONY X are proud to announce the two artwork versions and track listings for their ninth studio album & Nuclear Blast debut, Iconoclast. It will be available in Europe on June 17th and in North America on June 21st. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkfdgc5vP8U&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QtLbXeQkV8&feature=relmfu
  16. First taster of the new Work Of Art album. Man, this album is gonna be so cool. The debut was great and I think this one will be even better - seriously good stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wKEUd9pM58
  17. First full song - awsum! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULDuNKyAqpc love the chorus and some really great guitar moments too. If the rest of the album is like this it will be a very strong AOR release!
  18. New Work Of Art clip over at Melodic Rock.com..........sounds feckin awesome!! This is gonna be one GREAT AOR disc. Cannot wait.
  19. My comments stand. Repeated listens and i really cant tell a whole lot of difference between this and the debut. Very much just a continuation for me, except 2 or 3 of the tracks really do remind me of Daughtry - the more anthemic stuff from Daughtry that is. 'Move' is the only real filler for me.

Great, ive been eyeing this one. Good to hear some positive feedback.
  21. backed, it was a straight fight between that and First Signal for my album of 2010. Nothing between them really.
  22. QFT. As I said, it's a good song and I like it plenty; it's just not one of my faves. I honestly have to say I am with Geoff on this one. Under the gun is a great song, but not one that has ever been one of my faves. Off the debut, the ones I would put on a D2 compilation are: Naughty naughty Bang bang Dont walk away Rock America One step from paradise From Screw it: Monkey business Crazy nites Comin home Slipped her the big one Yeah you want it I still think about you Get your shit together All in all there its about even in the great song stakes, its just that I think the other songs on Screw it are better than those on D2. No "Beat the Bullet" from Screw It? Just my opinion but I always thought that one was one of the most beloved D2 songs. Yeah now that really IS odd. Beat The Bullet and Dont Blame It On Love are the clear stand out tracks Screw It, IMO. Yup me to. In all honesty, the 10 I picked above is about the best compilation I've ever seen in my life. There are a couple from Revolve I would pick over some of them....... 'Hearts On The Highway' and 'Dirty Mind' for starters. Two classics in my book. And again opinions vary so much which is cool While I rate Revolve higher overall than Screw It, Putting those two songs up against the two mentioned above is not even close imo. It would be much closer for me to say Killing Love & Rocket to Your Heart. Then we have a battle Doods, doods. Let's not get crazy now. It was only ever meant to be a compilation of the first two albums. If you're creating a complete D2 compilation you'd need at least 5 tracks from 'Cockroach' ('Afraid of love,' 'Goin goin' gone' and 'Don't break my heart again' for a start) and yeah, something like 'Rocket to your heart,' 'Heart on the highway' and 'Dirty mind' from 'Revolve,' but yeah... this was just a discussion about the first two. OK, was just responding to the comment 'best compilation I have ever seen'. Wasnt putting the Revolve tracks up against 'Beat The Bullet' or 'Dont.....'. Just up against some of the other 10 in the list. Cheers
  23. From the list I guess 'Mood Swings' 1993 was a bit barren but there were still some awesome releases which rate very highly for me to this day - Crown Of Thorns - s/t Shotgun Symphony - s/t Mark Free - Long Way From Home (an AOR classic!) Talisman - Genesis Winger - Pull Red Dawn - Never Say Surrender Jeff Paris - Lucky This Time
  24. no, only asleep in the middle of DT's musical wank ;-)
