DEEP PURPLE Announces New Album '=1' - BLABBERMOUTH.NET

DEEP PURPLE, one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time, will release a new album, "=1", on July 19 via earMUSIC. The first single will be unveiled on April 30 at midnight, a taster for the full 13 tracks of pioneering and rip-roaring rock and roll.

"=1" is the band's first album with sensational guitarist Simon McBride, who seamlessly slotted in when longtime member Steve Morse left due to personal circumstances. Since 2022, Simon has already played to DEEP PURPLE audiences totalling more than half a million people.

ith three consecutive No. 1 albums in their back pocket and a resurgent new energy powering them forward, this is DEEP PURPLE at their pinnacle. "Now WHAT?!" (2013),"inFinite" (2017) and "Whoosh!" (2020) have sold over one million copies worldwide, making DEEP PURPLE one of the most successful rock bands currently active. The latest studio album, "Whoosh!", reached No. 1 on the album charts in seven countries and charted in the top 10 in another 12.

Good news.

I've always been a Drowning Prince fan. ;)

This getting a lot of good reviews. I've only listened once but does seem the new guitarist pushed them in a new old direction.

Listening to it now... I hate it. It reminds me of the new Bon Jovi album: grandma's version of the band in question, complete with speak-singing. Instrumentally it's not bad, but vocally it's a hot mess.

They haven't put out a decent studio release in a long time. I would have to go back to 93 for The Battle Rages On. Everything after that has been forgettable...

I've seen a lot of comments online discussing how Simon McBride has breathed new life & energy into the band... well, I'm not getting that at all. Sounds like standard Deep Purple fare from the last 30 years (minus 2013's "Now What?", which I thought was a damn good release) to me. There are a handful of good songs, but overall, the album is just kind of "meh".
