According to Steve, he became really disillusioned with the music industry and just didn't want anything to do with it anymore.

There was an interview, I think on the Back In the Saddle DVD, where Steve mentions he'd kept trying to get Chris to work with him in some capacity, even offering to bring the recording gear to him to make it happen, and Chris was just not interested.
