Lessmann and Chris Limburg no longer had the desire to continue and Uwe Kohler had also decided to leave the group and pursue a new course in music with another band. Ziller had wanted to carry on with Harry Reischmann (drums) and so hired Reece as well as Ronnie Parkes (Bass) from Seven Witches and Paul Morris(keyboards). These musicians for the year of 2014 were performing together as EZ Livin', a solo venture by Ziller while Bonfire had taken a break. So essentially EZ Livin' was rebranded as Bonfire. The group is planning to hire a second guitarist.

EZ Livin' was okay... even if the best songs were all re-recordings of already great songs. But yeah, it wasn't great; that's for sure.

 

It's a shit situation. When I see the details, I can sympathise with Hans Ziller's predicament. But still, I don't think the Bonfire name should be used. It's just one of those sad but real situations. I am surprised Lessman no longer had the desire to record. What else is he going to do? Anyway, again, impossible to comment on stuff like that without knowing finer details. It doesn't sound like the Bonfire camp was a happy one. Good luck to them all. I guess in a perfect world you'd love to see a full reunion of the 'Fireworks' or 'Point Blank' line-up, but however it all pans out, I do hope there is some good music as a result.

On a "Bonfire kick" at the moment and in reading liner notes today, I was surprised to note than Hans Ziller was actually not in the band from 1989 to 1994.

 

After a big session on wikipedia, I discovered that Ziller was actually fired from the band prior to the release of 'Point Blank' due to family commitments, hence the EZ Livin' project. Funnily enough, though, Lessman was apparently very unhappy with him being fired from the band and was lined up to be the vocalist and song writer for the EZ Livin' album, but Bonfire's label wouldn't allow it.

 

Then after no success in the US and the dud album that was 'Knock Out,' Lessman removed himself from Bonfire in order to make music with Ziller, under several names, until the two guys bought the rights to the Bonfire name off the 3 other original guys around 1995 as the other 3 had no desire to resurrect Bonfire. Hence the 2nd coming of Bonfire.

 

But yeah, reading that, it makes me sadder to think how the guys have fallen out so bad this time, when they obviously had a pretty tight bond for over 30 years (including the Cacumen years). What a shame.

 

Anyway, listening to 'Point Blank' today, I was all like, doods, this is the album thousands of European hard rock bands (including Bonfire from 1990 onwards) tried, and wanted to make. But only Bonfire actually did it. Not saying it's the best album ever made, but by jeez it's brilliant.

 

And what on earth happened to the band, particularly Lessman, as a song writer? How do you just lose that ability? Even on a purely lyrical level, there is some excellent stuff on 'Point Blank,' so far removed from the cheesy rubbish that dominated future Bonfire albums.

 

Anyway, enough for now. Sad what's happened to this band, but yeah, I was just basically surprised at how long Ziller spent out of the band.

Yeah, that was 1990, wasn't it? 1990, or 1991. Killer song. Funnily enough, though, with the songs on 'Point Black' where they brought in outside song writers to hopefully crack the US market - I actually think their own songs are the best on that album. 'Price of loving you' is killer, but otherwise I prefer the pure Bonfire songs.

Almost right. He made it through 2 albums!!
