Summer Music

I always seem to leave you guys for the summer. I think it's because I DJ a lot of dances, house parties, BBQs, and other functions this time of year, so I'm usually balls deep Pop music. My passion for music doesn't stop at Hard Rock. I try to stay on top of everything, which is no easy feat. My trick is I stay away from that Top 40 shit. Heh.

Anyway, I thought I would share some of the good stuff I've discovered this year. Bear with me:

Earth, Wind & Fire - Guiding Lights

Fort Lean - Sunsick

Good thread. My tuppence:

Surprisingly (for me at least) I like the Earth, Wind & Fire track. I like the first Wildcat! Wildcat! track too, the second I found pretty boring. They massively remind me of Mew, a band that I quite like, although I really prefer their more upbeat stuff.

The others don't do much for me, especially the Gilgamesh tune, which makes me want to break things.

Heh, fair enough. I figured that'd be the track most likely to get folks here heated.

Anyway, here are a few more tracks. Hopefully, these won't inspire vandalism:

Okay, here are two that may incite a riot:

Little Daylight is quite pleasant, much better than 99% of the rubbish that I hear on the radio, but I'm finding the tune a little bland. The Jaymes Young track, though - sorry, but I really hate that. One of the most boring pieces of 'music' I've heard for ages.

Liking Smallpools...

BTW, love that one!

I'm also really liking this. Not particularly summery, but not rock or metal:

Were you already familiar with Strange Talk? Actually, what is radio like over there? Not one of these tracks is, or will be played on any of our radio stations.

Nope, never heard of them.

Some of this stuff might get played on Radio 2, which is the BBC's more conservative radio station. It plays a mixture of modern and older music, but none of the dance / R&B rubbish that dominates the other stations. I don't know about these songs specifically, but that Lissie song was on there and they play stuff that sounds similar to Strange Talk, etc.

BTW, wtf am I doing wrong? Why don't my Youtube links post as video clips any more? :huhsign:

Yeah, our CBC has a Radio 2, as well, which plays a good mix of music, but still wouldn't feature any of the aforementioned, save Grouplove. They don't play any Melodic Rock, however, but Lissie is someone that would definitely get airtime. In fact, that may be where I first heard about her.

As for the YouTube video embedding, I admit, I have been having issues, too. What I've done to 'remedy' the problem is, I copy/paste the url to the Facebook status bar. Without posting it, I select and copy it, again, and then paste it here. It's a bit tedious, and I don't know if my method requires Facebook, but it's been working so why change it.

Somebody on this site will probably enjoy this as much as I do. Huge 80's inspired track. Somebody in the comments stated that this sounds like Phil Collins-era Genesis and Toto. I would specify 80's-era Genesis, but, yeah. Let me know what you guys think.

Currently on my ninth consecutive spin of this track. In case you all forgot about the Pop shit I listen to, I give you Peter Thomas the man responsible for the sound of Betty Who. This track features none other than... Betty Who. So it sounds just like any other Betty Who track, but this one is under Peter Thomas' name. Oop... ten times, now.

The 80's was not my decade - born in '87 - but I said, "feck the 90's!"

St. Lucia is also fantastic in concert. Be sure to see them, if they stop by. I know you're in Finland, but who knows. They aren't big, yet, so tickets are generally cheap.

I didn't plan for this thread to turn into this. I originally wanted to just post newer tunes, but I'm all for more 80's Pop suggestions.

This has been my jam lately:

As we're on an 80's theme I thought i'd mention Kristine who is from Athens Greece.Melodicrockoz started a topic on her back in 2012 but I thought I would highlight her again as she has the 80's sound nailed. This takes you right back to the glory days. She released her Modern Love ep a while ago and all her solo stuff aswell as the other artists she collaborates with is pure 80's gold.
Check her out..........

    • Added Framing the Red over on the main site recently: Framing the Red discography reference list of music CDs. Heavy Harmonies Their website: Framing The Red Their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/framingtheredband Their YouTube channel: (23) Framing the Red Official Page - YouTube They have four releases, and all are quite good in my opinion. If I had to describe them, I'd say this is what Gunshine would sound like if they went in a more southern rock direction.  Here are some of my favorite tracks... Crossroads   Whiskey & Weed   Holy Water   Mississippi Hippie   Heroes   Bonnie & Clyde   Rockin' Into the Night (38 Special cover)   "Crossroads" and "Heroes" are probably my two faves.  *I will give a word of warning:  if you decide to purchase any of their discs, they are barebones releases with just the CD in a cardboard slipcase. I enjoy the music enough that that's not an issue for me though.  @lettard @KarpetRydOFunk @tts42572 @AlphaMale @Dead Planet @Mr.AOR @tobi is an animal I think all of you gentlemen should give these guys a listen and see what you think.
    • H.E.A.T - 1000 Miles Vega - Hands In The Air The Defiants - Stay Issa - River of Love I'm at work right now so that's all I know off the top of my head but I'll look through my library for more when I get a chance.
    • Maybe anything by the Darkness
    • Wig wam - hard to be a rock n roller
    • Saw these guys first time a couple of years ago, when they were 16-17 years old, they are absolutely awesome. They have been touring for a few years now, performing their own songs, yet haven't released anything, until now. I have tickets to see them this saturday, opening for Mercenary. First single and video:
    • I want to compile quite an extensive playlist of hard rock songs that has a key change in the end. Why? Cause I think it sounds awesome Some well known exambles are: Bon Jovi - Living On a Prayer Wig Wam - In My Dreams Danger Danger - Don't Blame it on Love H.E.A.T - Beg Beg Beg
    • My Japan copy showed up today. I was critical of the Part I album as that one just did very little for me.  Basically, I just didn't think the songs were all that catchy and/or memorable.  I played that album a handful of times trying to get into it and gave up rather quickly which was disappointing as I loved Wired.  Maybe I just had too high of expectations or something.  I know many liked that album but for me at least, that Megalomanium I album would be ranked toward the bottom of their discography. Well, after hearing this new one, I'm feeling the opposite....Here I feel like they nailed it and I'm digging this one after the first listen.  I basically couldn't wait to start it over and listen again. The first 5 songs just come out guns a blazing with catchy, hook filled songs.  Yeah, we've heard 4 of those songs as singles but I almost purposely haven't listened to those songs much so they'd still sound fresh when the album dropped.  Then the one song we hadn't heard, All I Want, is just another upbeat, catchy tune. The 2nd half though is where things probably get more interesting.  Songs like Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye are the kinds of varied balladish/mid-tempo type songs I've been wanting Eclipse to mix things up with and there's 2 of those songs here, both very well done IMO.  Then there's a couple heavier tunes like Divide & Conquer and One In A Million that sound like stuff that could've been on Bleed & Scream.  And then a couple other melodic rockers with Until the War is Over and Pieces. I also feel like this has some of the better lyrics that Eclipse has had in awhile.  I think a lot of their material recently has been just been sort of lighter subject matter, 3 minute "simplistic" romps.  I felt Part I had a lot of that which kind of contributed to it being less interesting.  Here though, it seems like some of these songs get a bit deeper and can feel more emotion in songs like Still My Hero, Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye for example.   Anyways, where Part I is among my least favorite Eclipse albums, I'd say my early impression of Part II is that it'll be among my favorite Eclipse albums.
    • New song 'Unbreakable'.
    • Solid hard rock album. Nothing really stood out to me, but it’s solid.
