'The Vampire Diaries'

Okay, splatter my balls with a telegraph pole but I like it. A teen drama dressed in modern day "horror" with sun loving vampires... but goddamn it's got me hooked already, two episodes in. And the main girl in this... delicious. Anyone else into it? It has 'Buffy' written all over it, but that's cool with me.

But they wear rings! That's why they can walk in the daylight... or so I found out last night. They didn't expand on it too much more than that, though. Possibly because they were too embarrassed to do so.

When I first heard about this back in the summer it had Twilight ripoff all over it and from what i've read that seems to be the whole point. Well I love Vampire shows and movies but I hated Twilight so anything like it makes me want to puke. Vampires can't walk around in sunlight damnit that is unless it really hurts them and they can't enter a residence without being invited in. Give me Angel or even True Blood or even Moonlight.

Yeah, the do the invite thing in the show, as well as the sunlight thing, but these two brothers are wearing fantasy rings that safeguard them from the sun. HAHA! But seriously, as a fellow huge 'Buffy' (and 'Angel') fan I reckon you'd enjoy this one too. I've seen a bit of 'Moonlight' and to me 'The Vampire Diaries' seems much, much better than that show. I don't watch 'Moonlight' and am not interested based on what I've seen. I don't think 'True Blood' ever made it onto Aussie TV?

True Blood is pretty damn cool IMO and takes the whole Vampire love story to a whole other level plus it's on HBO so it can be a little more X rated and much more brutal than the shows on regular tv. Yeah being an old Buffy/Angel fan I sometimes laugh watching these shows when I see certain angles and storylines and think "yeah they did that in Angel Season 4 episode 6". And then I think "damn I'm a geek."

I don't know, cousin Wes, I think you may have missed out on a good one here. Of the TV shows I'm watching at the moment this and 'Flash Forward' are the only non-reality TV shows I can stand (Still awaiting new series of 'Lost' and 'Family Guy'), and I have admit I actually prefer this one to 'Flash Forward', which I do still enjoy.

 

It's got me hooked exaclty like 'Buffy' did and I actually look forward to it every week. Last night the whole vampire thing was explained - myths and what's "true" for this story and it came up sounding okay. Almost all traditions are kept in tact, just with a little twist here and there. The thing I'm enjoying most is the storyline quite often diverting from the norm and where I think it's heading. Plus, for a teeny-looking show on the outside it's actually a little darker than one might expect. Yeah, good show that's keeping me well interested.
