Saliva - 'Cinco Diablo'

I believe this hit the shelves today. I had no idea it was due, thankfully because no one else obviously seems interested in these guys. I find this band tiring, but I am still interested in what they can come up with. Aside from the passion-free dead vocals of the last album it really was a pretty good album. And so is 'Back into your system'. I am interested to hear what they come up with this time.

 

So far, track one was one of their horrid 'everybody get up and make noise' standard tracks, and track 2 sounds just as bad. Though both have full guitar solos. Sounds like they've tried to toughen up after the whussy last disc. Let's just hope there's still a few pussy songs, as it is all they're good at. Judging by the track listing there will be.

 

Man this vocalist sucks...

Well, 'Forever and a day' was wonderful, as I thought it might be after looking at the song titles. The rest? Pretty weak album overall, to be honest. I'll spin it again to find out for sure though.

I knew it was out and ive heard some of it........sounded like pretty average Nu metal to me with the odd melodic chorus moment.

By the way their first 2 albums are really very good IMO.

Man does this one suck. 'Forever and a day' is a really great melodic rock song. The last 4 songs are the best on the CD, but that is not a compliment. 'Southern girls' had me tapping my feet a bit, but the rest almost falls back into that rap-metal category. As Glen said, it's all nu-metal, and also with a touch of rap-metal again... just a bad album.

I bought the one that had the Nikki Sixx penned song on it and it was a solid album especially on the tunes that he didn't rap.

Put the crack pipes down fellas. Saliva's latest release has them back in fine form. There's nary a bad track on this disc imo. I'm loving such tracks as "How Could You", "Southern Girls", "Hunt You Down", and "Judgment Day". Great million dollar production courtesy of Bob Marlette. Granted this might not reach the top tier such as the new Hinder, Shinedown, and Nickelback, but this is still some catchy hard rock with very melodic choruses. Definitely better than their last release which was still solid too.

Backed, big time. I almost dreaded checking out samples after Geoff's dismissive review of this CD, but check them out I did and found out that Geoff can apparently appreciate emo and boy bands, but not a kickass, full-throttle hard rock album like "Cinco Diablo." Granted, here & there the occasional faint hint of rap-rock/metal rears its head, but for the most part this just slams home the rock-n-roll with lots of attitude. It definitely blows away the last release, which quite a few folks raved about on these Boards (myself included) so I'm not understanding the hate here for this newie.

 

I will now wait for Geoff to pull his dick out of Rudolph's ass and return from the North Pole to tell me how nu-metal I have become.

Spun this a few more times since my initial comments and yep, I stand by 'em. "Cinco Diablo" may not slam as hard & heavy as, say, "Survival of the Sickest" (still Saliva's finest moment, IMO) and there are definitely a few rap-rock hints here & there, but this far from being a weak or watered-down rock album. As soon as Pacific Avenue starts delivering songs as in-your-face as "Hunt you Down" or "Judgement Day," I'll become a Pacific Avenue fan.

"Cinco Diablo" may not slam as hard & heavy as, say, "Survival of the Sickest" (still Saliva's finest moment, IMO) and there are definitely a few rap-rock hints here & there, but this far from being a weak or watered-down rock album. As soon as Pacific Avenue starts delivering songs as in-your-face as "Hunt you Down" or "Judgement Day," I'll become a Pacific Avenue fan.

 

Add me to the list of those liking this one. I hear some elements of nu-metal but not enough to distract from a quality album. I do think they're a bit too slick these days & they're in danger of over-commercialising themselves to death (the same thing happened to 18 Visions), but I'd still take this thing over the likes of Hinder any day of the week.

I just can't hear what you guys are hearing at all. 'Forever and a day' is still pretty good, though. But even that is not even really on par with Hinder's worst song.

Like I said in the 'What's spinning' thread recently I did spin this again for Mark's sake and I thought it sucked as much, if not more than I said here. Yeah maybe that was a bit harsh, & to be honest this disc is miles from being great. But - as you know - Hinder have just never grown on me one bit & I never play that album, wheres I do spin this one & enjoy it (though I have to skip some tunes).

I don't think these guys are worthy of a new thread, but for those interested, they just released a new album called 'Under your skin.'

 

One spin down and it's clear these guys haven't changed. Their ballads are so "pussy-whipped," but on the other side of this double edged sword that is Saliva, they're also constantly their only good songs. They just suck at the harder rocking tracks. Of said harder rockers, the opener, 'Badass' is as good as it gets, but it's still a pretty average track.

 

And don't get me wrong, there are ballads and slower tracks on this that suck to. But now, finally, I am getting to the good part. There are three excellent melodic / commercial rock songs on this album that I totally recommend: 'Nothing,' 'Never Should've Let You Go,' and 'Turn the Lights On' are all excellent songs. Just a shame that they think 3/10 good songs is worth releasing a full CD.
