Geoff
Another cool band I found on the weekend; We The Kings. They sound a lot like stuff like Crash Romeo, Run Kid Run, Hedley etc: http://www.myspace.com/wethekings Nothing original, but I like it. Some great tracks on this one. If anyone is interested in this stuff (which I'd label commercial rock for the 00's) a few other bands also similar to this: A Change of Pace Just Surrender Hit the Lights Boys Like Girls SR-71 ... I love all these bands. Well worth checking out.

I'm surprised I've never heard of them before since it says they're from Bradenton Florida which is only 30 minutes south of where I live. Geoff
I have to admit I put the CD on for the first time and actually said to myself, 'Oh no, not another one of these bands' because for every one I love there are a dozen or so bland, crappy ones. But these songs are actually sticking with me and there are some really great hooks and choruses on this disc. This kind of music is meant to be catchy as sin, and these guys succeed at that. Geoff
Further to some previous posts, has anyone checked these two bands out: Run Kid Run http://www.myspace.com/runkidrun These guys are growing on me. There are a couple of fillers, but there is some great commercial rock on this disc. The first 4 songs are very solid and 'One in a million' is one of my favourite tunes of the year. 'The Emergency' is great too. Well worth checking out. I'd be interested to hear their debut. And guess what... after doing a bit of searching on the net, apparently these guys are a Christian band too!!! Thank Jeebers, though, you'd not pick it just by hearing them. Boys Like Girls http://www.myspace.com/boyslikegirls I've liked these guys for a couple of years now, but not sure if anyone here ever checked them out. The s/t album from 2006 is essential, if you ask me.
LV KIX
Here's one that some may find interesting. TYLERS RIOT ~ http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endid=172710125 Check out the song "Controller". Some of the coolest artwork I've seen in awhile too. Geoff
Found some cool bands over the weekend: Signal the Escape http://www.myspace.com/signaltheescape Awesome new band which is compared to A Change of Pace/Silverstein, and I hear Throw the Fight here as well. Possibly not for all, but this is great explosive, passionate modern rock just the way I like it. Ivoryline http://www.myspace.com/ivoryline I just gave this a spin over the weekend but I'm keen to revisit it already. My first thoughts were that this sounded like Anberlin mixed with some delicious Saosin choruses. Well worth checking out. Cute Is What We Aim For http://www.myspace.com/cuteiswhatweaimfor Okay, I know I shouldn't but I have to post these guys because despite the name, image and everything you're probably thinking now, they've just recorded their 2nd CD and it's pretty damn excellent. If you like the lighter side of modern rock, with killer catchy hooks and melodies, you really can't go past these guys. Love the new disc, 'Rotation'. The Almost http://www.myspace.com/thealmost Been after their debut 'Southern weather' for a while and I finally heard it. They're not going to blow anyone's mind, but I think a few guys might like this band. Good strong songs... check them out.

I'd listen to any of these bands but I'm really liking Ivoryline the best. They remind me of WA band Gyroscope is some ways. Signal The Escape are very good also. I'm not sure what to think about Cute Is What We Aim For. They sound like they have lots of potential but the songs seem to stay a bit flat and never take off. The Almost are good too. That song 'Amazing Because It Is' is an intersting one with that choir that starts up half way through the song - it actually sounds really nice. Are these all Christian bands? Geoff
Haha! Yeah, I'm sure they are all Christian bands, mate. As for Ivoryline, spun it again and this is 100% identical to Anberlin. Seriously, this would pass as an Anberlin album no worries. Sounds like out-takes from 'Never take friendship personal' to me. Amazing similarity. Surprised at your comments on Cute Is What We Aim For, as I actually think they are one of the more un-flat kind of bands around, with some delicious super hook-friendly and catchy choruses. I'd give them a few listens mate, pretty sure you would love them.
Geoff
Okay, this one's going to test out how sticky sweet you'll go for a delicous melody. This is an Italian band with two English releases so far: 'Consider Us Gone' (2007) 'Melody Fall EP' (2006) The style is very much in the style of Simple Plan's debut, but not quite as crap - actually, imo MUCH better. But that same kid-like style. There is actually some really solid playing and cool guitar work here and some awesome hooks and catchy choruses. To be honest, I am pretty much instantly in love with this one, but my word of warning is that it may not be for everyone. Definitely not on the heavier side of modern rock, but very catchy and melodic: http://www.melodyfall.com/ http://www.myspace.com/melodyfall

I am pretty open minded and listen to most of your recommendations in this genre, but this is the worst yet mate - Complete and utter Bollox!! Geoff
Sadly, this guy's voice is going to put people off a pretty damn great disc, as it is 100% the most vulgar version of the whole Simple Plan/Bowling For Soup style voice. The EP (With 'Frankie') isn't as good as the full disc either, imo.
TIM (2)
Mate you should check out GO:AUDIO. I think they only have a couple of singles out so far but they're so catchy, the vids are on YouTube for "She Left Me" & "Made Up Stories". They're not that different to Faber Drive IMO.... Thanks mate, will do! Another band I was recently finally able to check out after looking for them for ages, is: Forever the Sickest Kids http://www.myspace.com/foreverthesickestkids After 3 EPs they've finally released their full length debut 'Underdog Alma Mater' and this is a killer disc, imo. With a foot firmly into some pop effects, this pop rock disc is a beauty, imo. The band is tight as hell and the hooks and melodies you'll find on this thing are wonderful. Chroruses so big they'll grab your face and slice it up with a sledgehammer. The closest band I can compare them to would probably be Marvelous 3? Killer stuff, check it out. Cool band, very upbeat and catchy. I quite like 'The Way She Moves' and 'She's A Lady'. But my fav songs are 'Breakdown' and 'Whoa Oh!'. I'm not sure what it is but there's something very similar about these two songs - they're both full of "Whoa Oh's". Only problem - the songs are a bit short with a few at under 3 mins. Sad also is that the lyrics were written by my pugs. Seriously, lyrics and vocals are shit and the hooks/melodies are maybe a little unpolished compared to the class acts of the genre, but they're still very solid, and the band is a really tight musical unit. There are those killer rhythm guitar parts that I love so dearly, found mostly on Cauterize... but they're all over this. Everything's in place for these guys. I just hope they get a new lead singer and lyricist for the next disc and rip some shit up.
Geoff
And then there's that one band that I'm guessing has yet to be checked out .... what are they called again?? theSyndrome?? No ... theSynners?? No ... hmmm ...??? Just (finally) checking out The Syndikut. Sorry mate, I'll give you Lovesick Radio but I'm not into these guys at all. Geoff
Luna Halo.... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...riendID=1693363 (make sure and listen to the song "Kings and Queens") Wow, I'm in 2 minds about these guys mate. Don't like the throwaway verses at all and I was about to completely write off 'Untouchable', even after the chorus but there was a delicious part in that song which made me take notice. 'Kings and queens' has another terrible verse, but a nice chorus. I'd check these guys out but not sure I'd chase after them. Would be happy to see a CD end up in my lap. 'Medicate' doesn't work too well for me...
