  1. Well so far they have only unquit once, so its hardly in Kiss territory yet.
  2. My feeling on 70s rock is this. I grew up in the 70s, and had a brother and sister who were 10 and 13 years older than me. What I was mostly exposed to though, was 60s music like Elvis, Beatles and Tom Jones. There were some 70s bits I was exposed to, such as Bay City Rollers, but mostly it was older stuff (hell, even a lot of old 50s rock n roll). What I never heard, was rock and metal from the 70s (with the exception of one Judas Priest single my brother owned, then gave me years later, and of course Status Quo & Queen). When I first started buying my own stuff, it was mostly 80s chart stuff, but even then I was somewhat behind the curve, listening to stuff by the likes of Huey Lewis and Springsteen, more than Duran Duran and Wham etc (although I did get into them over time as well). I finally got into rock and metal properly in 1989, when songs like Every rose has its thorn, Paradise city, Poison and Love in an elevator started getting decent positions in the UK charts (I already owned albums and singles by Def Lepp, Jovi, Kiss and Europe, but didnt really think of them as being of that musical genre until I delved into it more). Once I went out and bought Appetite and Open up and say ahh.., I was hooked and started seeking out bands of the genre like Cinderella, Ratt, Crue and LA Guns etc. Of course, with the likes of Alice Cooper, Aerosmith and Kiss having chart successes, I started delving into their 70s back catalogues, and also started looking at other bands like Sabbath, Skynyrd and Zepp etc, as a lot of the 80s bands were citing them as influences. For the most part, I was suitably unimpressed. I found with most of these artists, that a best of package contained all the gems I really needed. Even a band like AC/DC, I preferred in the 80s, probably because I prefer Brian over Bon, more than likely because I heard Brian first. I will always take the 80s music over 70s, but there are some 70s era stuff that I prefer to later stuff. While I dont have a whole lot of Skynyrd albums. I'll take a Skynyrd compilation over any of their later stuff. Sabbath for me, was THE 70s band, and never ever equaled the 70s albums (and please dont tell me the Dio stuff is better, cause it isnt. It isnt even Sabbath in my eyes). Overall I find 70s rock to be somewhat pretentious (mostly the Brit bands), and the sound seems lacking (mostly due to the lack of technology back then, so production values were shit). I also think that someone who heard this in the 70s would think of it as exciting and fresh, and that these guitarists or drummers were doing things nobody had heard before, but those of us who started in the 80s, were spoiled by all these guitar wizards etc, so to us, the 70s guys seem somewhat like cavemen technically. I mean, people can call the likes of Hendrix (yeah 60s, I know), Page and Blackmore inovators etc, but to someone who only heard them after the fact, they dont sound so special.
  3. Well strictly speaking, they reunited last year for the best of album, and a tour ( I saw them support Thunder).
  4. If anything, FU$ was the closest to old school D2 on this album, with tongue in cheek lyrics not a million miles away from the debut or Screw it.
  5. A friend of mine bought me a Mr Angry toy for my birthday a few years ago cause he was apparently based on me.
  6. There is no filler on this album, and the production is faultless. Thats my opinion anyway!
  7. only listen to Aor - Yeah cause heavy metal isnt a primary staple of British rock (see NWOBHM) molest a badger - Better than having anal sex with a Kanagaroo wash sometimes... - Has soap reached the continents yet? lose everything - F1 world champions the last two years, Current IRL champions etc etc never get a tan - Never get skin cancer keep telling myself warm beer tastes ok - never drunk a warm beer in my life and never been anywhere that serves it stalk the chick from Harry Potter - At least we can read pretend i dont listen to Bon Jovi or Poison - never done either
  8. http://www.totalrock.com/events.php My friend and Totalrock DJ, Sleazy H has secured an interview with Jeff Scott Soto next week. The interview will be live, so people can email in questions or request as the show happens. I was on the show last night, and have been invited in for next week as well, but may or may not be able to make it. The show goes out Tuesday night/Weds morning at 12am UK time, til 2am.
  9. Complicated Man sounds nothing like Giant, and reiterates my feeling that the band name should not have been used. Its not a bad song per se, but it does sound like a blatant VH rip off, and it just doesnt say 'Giant' to me.
  10. Also, possibly the same song here http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/music/view.aspx?songID=2901
  11. As for the cover, isn't it pretty much the same as the last one with different colouring? Very few similarities imo.
  12. I loved the last disc, just no nonsense hard rock n roll. Pretty much sums it up. Yeah, it was hardly original. Yeah, it sounded like certain other Aussie bands. But fuck, it was pure, no thrills classic rock n roll with hooks aplenty.
  13. Yeah I like it too. Its obviously sposed to be like a movie poster, which is always a cool concept if done right.
  14. Earth vs.. is an essential rock release. I'll admit that I lost interest in them after I heard the first single off of Endless nameless, but their early stuff is full of jems.
  15. So selling bucket loads of albums makes it a great album? In that case i'd be listening to Myley Cyrus or some shit like that. Isn't that what this site is all about? Listening and buying the stuff from the genres we like, regardless of whether it's commerically popular, selling millsions of copies or is on a major label? I was agreeing with you for godsake, pointing out that they are not selling on name alone. Jesus!
  16. You can say this same thing about any band from the 80's still releasing albums. Motley, Def Lep, Alice Cooper, Skid Row, Kiss...whoever else you wanna name are all living off of what they did in the 80's (or earlier in the case of Alice and Kiss) and none of them would get even a look in if they were new comers and releasing what they have been releasing. Not saying they are bad releases, just not anywhere near the top of the field, .... so bon jovi is not alone in this criticism. And lets face it, most of those bands are hardly selling big numbers, and are on lesser labels, so for Jovi to still be on a big label and still be selling big numbers proves that people like what they are doing, not just some blind loyalty cause if it was that then the likes of Kiss and Alice would still be as popular as they used to be.
  17. Funnily enough I was listening to it at work earlier this evening (with Pussy & Tits added on as tracks 13 and 14), and I was still singing away to myself, cracking a smile and laughing at certain moments. Never gets old!
  18. I agree with edwithmj, I dont think he looks that bad considering his age. I also have to say that Za Za was a great album, the last one was shite tho!
  19. He got the news that Tyler had quit off the internet (he says this himself in his original rant) and it was Classic Rock that broke the original story that pretty much went viral, so either way they had a hand in the misinformation. The quote I included in my post dated Nov 9 2009, 04:18 PM was directly copied from the Classic Rock Magazine website...which on just visiting can no longer find... and seems to suggest that they were first with the news. Call me cynical but with a new solo album to promote this is "useful". But I suppose there's no smoke without fire as they say and this story may have more twists than a yard of yarn! Well quite frankly, if Joe Perry reads a news story on the internet then goes and tells other news outlets that Tyler has left, then its him who is being an idiot. If you read a story on the internet that your next door neighbour had done something, would you then go around telling everyone that, or would you speak to your neighbour first? Regardless of whether Classic Rock was right or wrong with the story, the fact that Perry then went round saying it was true shows that things are not right in the Aerosmith camp or he is just an idiot for believing everything he reads without confirming it with the guy he has worked with for nearly 40 years.
  20. Nobody is forcing you to listen to them.
  21. Sadly due to being unemployed for a good portion of the year, I didnt get nearly as many of the new releases this year, so still playing catch up and got quite a few of them on my christmas lists. Of the albums released this year that I have bought, I probably wont put them in any order, but these are my thoughts (of the ones I can remember that is). Steel Panther - Feel the steel. I think everyone knows how much I love these guys, and this album is probably my most played of the year. While I am not going to rank anything else, this is easily my top album of the year, and I dont care what anyone else says. Winger - Karma. Absolutely amazing album, and another one thats been on almost constant rotation since buying it. Stryper - Murder by pride. Right up there with my fave Stryper albums. Another stunning release. Bon Jovi - The Circle. Only been listening to it for a week or so, and first opinion was 'Meh'. It has grown on me somewhat, but is far from their best 'modern' work. The Answer - Everyday demons. Good solid hard rock. Not amazing, but certainly a nice no frills album. Lita Ford - Wicked wonderland. Going against every other opinion on this board, but I really like this one. Ok, it falls flat on a few songs, and I have only been listening to it for 2 days, but I personally think its a damn good album. Bowling For Soup - Sorry for partyin. Certainly not their finest work, but pretty much standard BFS fare, ie good stuff. Bulletboys - 10c Billionaire. Crap. Danger Danger - Revolve. Stunning melodic album. Not the rocker many had wanted, but certainly turned out to be a melodic masterpiece. Enuff Z Nuff - Dissonance. Was familiar with this already due to owning the Lost in Vegas boot thats been floating around for a while, but still an enjoyable release. Not really one of their best, but certainly better than the dull ? album. Freakshow - S/T. I do like it, but it just didnt hook me with any stand out tracks. Reece - Universal language. Same as Freakshow really. Place Vendome - Streets of fire. Same again. Spinal Tap - Back from the dead. Dull and pointless release. White Trash - 3-D Monkeys in Space. Not a bad album, but it just didnt do anything for me as it was more like the 2nd album than the debut, imo. Alias - Never Say Never. Nice album, but not a patch on the debut. Nice to have it finally officially released though. I obviously havent included some best ofs and also missed off live albums, as never been that much of a fan of them. As I say, still so many I want to buy, but just gotta wait.
  22. Actually, when Joe Perry had been telling the Sun that Tyler had quit, I dont see that that had anything to do with Classic Rock or shoddy reporting. Perry is the one who has been saying Tyler had quit.
  23. http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news/st...your-xmas-sack/ Steel Panther to release christmas song
