August Ames, R.I.P.

I don't know if the name will resonate with many here, but I thought this was a pretty sad story. I admit - despite it being very controversial with many - that I personally don't have a mass of sympathy for partakers in suicide. I know all the arguments and I know it would be an amazingly dark place to get to... one that we "normal" folk might not be able to comprehend. But everyone's entitled to an opinion, and especially in instances that involve children of the deceased, I just have a really hard time being on the same page.

But, that said, some instances tug a heartstring here and there. My brother actually forwarded this onto me and I thought it quite sad. Very well known porn star, August Ames (who was only 23 years old!!) recently committed suicide, amidst speculation that cyber bullying had a hand in it. When I read between the lines, I'm not so sure it was a deciding factor, but it's pretty sad when a 23 year old young lady gets to this point. Can't imagine what it's like for a porn star, though, when they take a good hard look into what the future might hold for them. Must be pretty daunting.

Anyway, think what you may, I thought it was a pretty sad story and she is/was one of my personal favourite "entertainers." So, rest in peace August Ames.

We live in a dangerous age. If you hold any opinions that are even remotely politically incorrect, you HAVE to keep them to yourself, lest you be set upon by an enraged twtter mob of SJWs who either make their living or get their jollies being outraged on other people's behalf. A seemingly innocuous or unintended statement can be parsed to the Nth degree, twisted out of context before you know it, and the ensuing shitstorm takes on its own momentum.

It started trending this way several years ago, but really ratcheted into high gear in the early stages of the last U.S. election cycle. Now people are guilty until proven innocent, pilloried by twitter/facebook masses before any facts can come to light or the target in question can explain their opinion (everyone now has to have a justification for their personal opinions).

Some bells can't be unrung.

Just another reason to stay the fuck away from social media. No good can come of it.

I seem to remember a program with Louis Theroux when he did a weekend in the porn industry and he said suicide rates were pretty high in that sector. It's such a shame as she was so young and could have had so much to live for

Just days later, another porn star was found dead.  (Drug overdose)

Yurizan Beltran, also known as Yuri Luv.

Can't say I ever recall seeing her work, but it's definitely sad that whether due to fast living or depression or bitching of SJW's who refuse to actually use reading comprehension/logic before jumping on the bandwagon and harassing people, so many people in this line of work leave this world far too soon.  (Hell, that's sad ANYTIME, but when it's so prevalent in a profession, as fleeting as it may be.)

And, in November (thought I had seen something about it, but had to look it up), Shyla Stylez was found dead.  No cause of death has yet been named.  So, 3 women in porn in about 5 weeks.  That's definitely cause for alarm.  (As much as many more women in more recent history have said they embarked in the business more for long-term monetary gain/security, it appears there are still many cases where it's more of a way out and the actors/actresses don't deal with the demons that often landed them there in the first place.  Then again, that's as much speculation on my part as anything else.)

Pretty much OH&S issue I guess.

There probably should be some kind of course these people need to pass which involves an assessment to gauge how well they will be able to cope with various aspects of what they are in for.

Social media critics
Life after porn
Dangers along the way - drugs etc

I think they are all pretty well sorted on what the will/won't do, but they should probably be given the skills/support in dealing with being placed in unwanted situations.

Indeed you are correct, Jay. My brother also forwarded me the stories on those two as well. I know Shyla Stylez quite well, but Yurizan Beltran not as much. Definitely a rough period

I don't know how much of this story you're aware of, but August Ames got severely "trolled" after she opted not to do a sex scene with a guy who did gay porn. She was called homophobic and there was quite the backlash against her for her decision. I find it so surreal. All you hear all day every day is the world whining about women's rights and blah blah... and she opts not to have sex with someone - for whatever reason. It's completely insignificant who or why she didn't want to have sex with someone - and gets accosted for it, for all the world to see. It can be a very, very messed up world.

And in saying that, I don't understand why people who shouldn't be on social media, just aren't. It's obviously not for everyone, and I just don't know why some people put themselves through it.

That guy is a great interviewer. I believe during that program he almost got talking into doing a sex scene? But you are right. I remember looking into this a few years ago when another very attractive young star committed suicide. I can't for the life of me remember her name now. She was also very young, only did a few scenes, I believe, and had a child too. She was found in her garage with the car running, dead from the fumes. I just can't remember her name. But anyway, it led me to this link at the time:

And Jay... yep, my brother told me about those two too. I know Shyla Stylez pretty well, but (amazingly) wasn't aware of Yurizan Beltran. It was definitely a heavy period for the adult industry.

That's a pretty damning look over 20 years, although, with all the new "stars" on the periphery, I'm curious if it's gotten better or worse in the past (near) decade.  (Although, that number probably makes it difficult to quantify because it can be produced and posted so easily.)

I'd also be interested to see from 2009 to now. I'd be surprised if it had gotten any better. But who knows? I wish I could remember the name of the actress that made me look that list up in the first place...

  • 4 weeks later...

And here it is again...

Just 20 years old, porn star Olivia Nova was found dead in Las Vegas this past Sunday.  (Apparently, her BF committed suicide just a few months prior.)  I'm not naive enough to think that whoever produces porn is going to get people available to counsel this people, but someone has to try to get through to them.  This has long been pushing toward epidemic territory and, maybe even before this, I think it's reached it.  All of these deaths have been way too young, but 20?  Jeez!  Poor kid.  RIP

Wow, 20 years old. I am not familiar with her at all, but she look(ed :( ) very pleasant. Sad a girl like that gets mixed up in porn, even sadder that it ends like that. R.I.P.
