Chiefs 2010-11

To the NFL fans

I have no idea why I have a soft spot for the KC Chiefs, but I have been willing them to win for about 20 years now. I follow the NFL results every season, but I'm a real novice as far as understanding the game, knowing the players, etc. The Chiefs seem to be having their best season for years, but are they actually any good? For example, I saw that they were 31-7 up over the Titans at half time on Sunday, but only won 34-14. A bit worrying going into the play offs?

I also like to see the Eagles and the Pats win as often as possible and really enjoyed the Pats' Superbowl wins in recent years. So do I have any reason to be excited about the 2011 play offs?

Yes they are pretty good and have a great running game with Jamal Charles and Thomas Jones. Plus Dwayne Bowe is becoming a top tier wide receiver while Matt Cassel is a solid quarterback and has put up great numbers this year with very few turnovers. It seems that the addition of Charlie Weis at Offensive Coordinator along with Todd Haley at head coach has made a huge difference. They will most likely be the team to beat in the AFC west for the next several years if they keep this group together but I'm not sure if they can win in the playoffs this year or not since many of those key players have never been in that type of situation before but I've learned anything in this years NFL expect the unexpected, meaning that they could make a run, but then again I don't see them winning the Super Bowl but they might surprise some and win a playoff game and make a little noise.

I follow the Packers which are in the NFC and since the Chiefs are in the AFC I don't know a lot about them other than the players Wes mentions above.

For this years AFC playoffs I put my money on New England going to the Super Bowl. They have home field advantage and with Tom Brady you're always in the game.

I would like the Packers to get a second chance at them since I feel like the Packers dominated the regular season game, minus a few mistakes the Patriots made them pay for. BUT, the Packers are a little Jeckyl and Hyde this year and not even guaranteed a playoff spot yet.

I expect the Pack to beat the Bears and get in to the playoffs since the Bears have clinched the 2 spot and I don't think can move up to #1. If Rodgers don't get hurt in the Lions game they would already be in plus if Grant don't get hurt they probably win the division and maybe are the best team in the NFC. As of today they have the best D in the NFC so if they get in I expect them to make some noise even though it will be road games. Plus Rodgers got screwed not getting named to the pro bowl. He has the best QB rating in the NFC and overall has better numbers than Brees and even Matt Ryan. I'm sure missing that game and a half hurt him but damn look what's he's done in 13 1/2 games. The guys awesome.

Being that I'm from Kansas and lived here all my life, I've followed the Chiefs since I was a little knee biter. I have missed only a handful of games since the 80's. We are definitely on the upswing, but I have a feeling we will get crushed when we come up against a powerhouse like Baltimore or New England on the road. We are a completely different team on the road vs at home. I hope I'm wrong.

Glad to see a Chiefs fan on here! If I ever get to the States again, I'd love to include a trip to the Arrowhead. If they do go all the way, I may stay up and watch for the first time in about 5 years. It sounds like it might happen in the next few years, but probably not this one. Looks like a really open season though, so there might be a surprise team at the Superbowl...

Well that's just great! All three teams I follow lost their Wild Card games, i.e. Eagles, Chiefs and Pats. In one fell swoop, I've lost all interest in the NFL for the rest of this season. FFS!

Pats haven't played yet. they had a first round bye

Eh? The BBC site section for NFL results includes this:

Sunday, 10 January 2010

New England Patriots 14-33 Baltimore Ravens

:huhsign:

edit: I see what they did there; included an old result with the latest ones. Reads very strangely:

Speaking of the Pats as they seem to be the odds on fav and are the #1 seed in the AFC. I saw in the new issue of SI that there have only been 2 #1 seeds in the AFC since 1990 that won the Super Bowl. That stat blew me away. Somehow the #1 in the NFC has meant more over the years with I think it was 5 teams winning the SB. Show maybe don't lay all your money on the Pats. Of course now that I've pointed this out they'll probably cost to the Lombardi trophy.

Yes the "Chiefs Will" continue to improve. They got exposed a little the last two weeks on top of the Charlie Weis thing but they will be fine. Tough schedule next year so they need to address those needs in free agency and the draft. Need's include a 60-70 catch #2 wide out to compliment Bowe, More O-Linemen (aging and need depth), a true nose tackle & a stud pass rushing linebacker to help Johnson & Hali out. They have everyone locked up they need to keep except Hali...and I'm concerned. He almost won the sack title this year & will command the money. They should have signed him before now...
