Finally buying this one this afternoon! Man, what a shamble. I never took any notice of this thread but then everytime I was in the car with my wife, without fail, this 'According to you' song would come on the radio. I never heard who sung it and just assumed it was Kelly Clarkson with a cool session guitarist in tow. Then, finally I heard it was this Oranthi girl and remembered you guys going on about her here.

Anyway, with my shithouse memory I kept forgetting to check it out any further but FINALLY remembered today. Will buy the disc for $5 and report back - I actually really dig that 'According to you' song. Very kind of girl-pop-rock angsty kind of tune, but hellishly addictive.

I also bought it today, I got mine for 9.99$ at Target. Pretty good, nothing mindblowing. She sounds like a female Daughtry with a voice crossed between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood (all American Idol comparisons...odd!!!). The only thing is she shreds her ass off on many tracks, giving her a cool edge not found in much of today's pop scene. The instrumental track she does with Steve Vai is loads of fun.

Yeah, I forgot to mention it, but the solo on that tune I've heard is awesome. Looking forward to hearing more.

For anyone interested - now that I've bought my copy, lol - Secondspin has a 20% off plus free shipping sale (for all purchases over $20 if you're after anything else) and they have several copies of this for $5.99. So can't really lose for that price, imo.

Not a bad album but the single is the best track. Her influences are all over the place though so it will be interesting where she goes with it all coz her playing is definitely in the 80s rock god mould when she fires up.

If this is the new Modern Rock it's a change for the better. Because I'm hearing the Classic Rock on this one and would've probably placed it in AOR/Hard Rock myself. I'm listening to Drive Away now and to me this is just the AOR/Hard Rock profile we all discuss on a daily basis over here. There are some new aspects about this one, it's not exactly the same as others, but not any less awesome. Meaning it's a good mix of sound, unlike most we've heard throughout the past decade, aka music that just doesn't cut it. An update of past glory Rock music and her own sound.

Like Geoff I'm only listening to this one now. We've had too much crap that you'd almost assume a new commercial artist couldn't possibly be that good. Coming from a time where radio has played almost nothing but utter crap that nobody wants to hear hardly anyone is going to sit through that. But I think this is a good example of other companies threatening to take over and major companies being forced back to do better. And of course when you play with Michael Jackson, Carlos Santana, BB King, Prince and Steve Vai you're playing among the best. Vai is also featured here on the guitar instrumental Highly Strung and we see Desmond Child lending a helping hand on Bad News.

As opposed to the poster above me I don't think the single is the best track. I'm going with everything else as I tend to consider the single a bit generic and probably the most 00's sounding track on here. I like it nonetheless. But I'd say Suffocated, Bad News, Drive Away, Highly Strung, Think Like A Man and What's It Gonna Be are the best.

A couple of spins in now and I like this. For me it does take a dip in quality for the second half of the album, but the first half is great. 'According to you' is arguably still my favourite tune - man I love that song, 'Suffocated' is a very good modern rocker, 'Bad news' is just awesome, total Desmod Child/Jack Ponti styled 80's commercial rocker, 'Believe' is another killer tune and the extremely Daughtry-esque 'Feels like home' rounds up an awesome first half of the album.

Sadly, I could just as easily pass on most of the next songs. 'Think like a man' and the guitar solo are both skips for me. 'What's it gonna be' and 'Drive away' are both good tunes but unspectacular, and 'Untogether' is also pretty damn average. The closer, 'God only knows,' is the best of the balladic second half and a good solid tune. Would love to hear the two bonus tracks too. Ipod, here they come. :)

Anyway, so there you have it. Well worth the few dollars I paid for it, with some really great stuff on it. To be totally honest, the weaker stuff isn't awful at all, just wish the quality of the first half had been maintained.

I tell you something else. Somehow her management seems to have the brilliant idea of scrapping any promo for Believe altogether. The alternative? An all new non album song for second single, that sounds like an Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend ripoff, or like everything else of that past decade Teen Pop/Pop Punk/Emo junk for that matter. I don't like it one bit.
