The site is still under construction, so the only part that's open for business at the moment is the forums, and they look like they've only been active for a couple of weeks at most. Stop by and say "hi" if you're so inclined... I did. :P

A Barren Cross update from Blabbermouth!! SWEET news! They're working on new material!! :banger:

BARREN CROSS 'Is Officially 100% Back' - May 29, 2008

Vocalist Michael Drive (a.k.a. Mike Lee) of the Christian metal band BARREN CROSS has issued the following update (excerpts only):

"First and foremost; I am happy to announce: BARREN CROSS is officially, 100% BACK!

"There has been great healing done in the band, and we are being raised up to an entirely new level. We are back in form and are out there performing again!

"BARREN CROSS is not just 'talking' about it, but we have now, as of this last week, officially decided to record a brand new full-length album! Inspiration like never before has already begun; we have already started writing for it! As a writer and the lead singer since our inception in 1983, I can feel it already; this is going to be, by far, the best BARREN CROSS album ever put out. I would like to add that the table is now open for any offers from producers and studios who would like to be involved with us. This is going to be greater than anything we have ever done.

"It is very possible that I will be embarking on a two-month 'solo unplugged' tour of the United States either this fall or winter. Right now is a period of time when the venues have the opportunity to get an 'MD' show booked, and following this period, when there are enough venues booked, we will be contacting all of them to schedule the dates. This is where you come in: I'm asking you to contact whoever you know that might be interested in having me perform, whether it's your church, club, or other. If you want to help with this, please contact 'KJ' who is specifically handling this tour: northsouthbooking@cox.net.

"In case you don't know, in the modern rock genre, I have been doing solo albums and performances, both solo-unplugged, OR with a band: mostly in Europe in the recent years, as I was based in Paris, France; but also in the U.S., where I am now based, in Hollywood, CA; the land of my childhood.

"For those of you who don't know, on June 26, 2006, I had a very powerful encounter with God, and a radical transformation that followed. It's the most incredible thing that ever happened to me. If you would like to read about this, you can find it here."

Yea, Mike Lee has apparently gone thru a "transformation" of some sort and he's been living in Paris doing weird artsy rock kinda stuff for the past few years... he's now known as "Michael Drive" for whatever reason... he sounds like he's gone a little screwloose to me but I'm still looking forward to hearing some new B.C. stuff.

For some stupid reason, my work computer is preventing me from accessing the website, but no matter, I heard all I need to hear--Barren Cross is working on new material! Hopefully Mike Lee (Michael Drive) hasn't gone so "mad hatter" on us that he steers the band in an experimental direction. I want to hear a heavy, hard-hitting, oldschool (with modern production values) Barren Cross album! If they can maintain a state of control, they will once again rock for the King in the atomic arena and unapologetically rattle your cage... :)

The Barren Cross website I linked in my first post has seen absolutely no construction progress since I last posted about it... and the forum is now full of porn-related spam. Guess they ain't got nobody moderating that thing!!

However, this appears to be their new "official" web site:

http://barrencross.net/

No forum/message board at this one (at least not yet) but it is way more "finished" than the other site.

Or if you're MySpace inclined, you can say hi to BC there as well: http://www.myspace.com/barrencross

The spam troubles at the B.C. forum appear to have been resolved. Someone must've poked the moderator with a stick and woke him up.

I was just perusing the B.C. website to see if there were any updates on their current activities, and found this rather disturbing (to me at least) tidbit at the end of their "History" section:

"Barren Cross is back writting (sic) new material for a new album and is in the throws (sic) of consideration of re-recording Atomic Arena.

:yikes: No, NO, NO!!! They should NOT re-record ATOMIC ARENA!! That album is absolutely perfect the way it is, and is Top Ten of All Time for me! LEAVE IT ALONE!! BAD IDEA!! BAD BAD BAD!!!

(Phew) Thanks, I just had to get that off my chest...

Is Oz Fox still in the band?

Wrong Christian metal band that starts with "B." Oz is playing with Bloodgood, not Barren Cross.

    • I was a pretty big fan. Nature Of The Beast is a killer song. Saw them with Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets singing and he did an amazing job, but pretty sure they have a new singer now  I recently went through the two most recent albums before this one and there were a couple of ok tracks, but mostly mid. Fun fact: I saw the Angels a couple of years before Doc died at the Middle hotel in Ferntree Gully and they seemed to hate each other. Pretty sure Doc said nothing to the crowd all night. Fun fact 2: when they were building the transit bar in Melbourne, a mate and I found a service elevator that went to the roof, which was under construction. After peeing off the roof, which is always fun, we realised that we could clearly hear the music 5 or 6 floors below from a DJ I think. He was playing Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. We started yelling down the No Way Get Fucked, Fuck Off bit thinking we were hilarious. Then soon we noticed people looking up, and for some reason they seemed to be clearly hearing us. Another mate then called us to tell us security were on the way up the stairs so we took the service elevator down and managed to laugh it off. Stoopid drunk story I guess, but fun days.
    • Cheeky, getting your artwork in there. I wonder how you did that.  I like the vocal track on #1 and that'd be my pick. I personally don't dig the female versions of songs, because I'm not a female (yet?) and as these are songs written by ourselves I personally feel the best interpretation is an AI dude voice taking the place of your dude voice.
    • Yeah, that's great but this is obviously an accomplished musician probably completely in control of this output... not done with Suno, I'd bet. There's definitely dudes out there who are perfectly capable of doing their own music, like this dude, but for whatever reason might not be able to put a project together, again, for whatever reason... but this definitely feels a lot more like AI feeling in the missing gaps for someone otherwise in complete control of what he wants.  Either way, it is very cool indeed.  As Darkstone says, I'm not sure paying is the way to get the best results. I'm also not saying it isn't, especially with other platforms that are not Suno. I think already knowing what you're doing, musically, is the best way to get best results, personally. Suno, for example, is just perfect for someone who might enjoy writing lyrics but is not in any way shape or form an accomplished (or even adequate, lol) musician.  But yeah, it's pretty cool for some fun. I'm not sure if you checked out my links above. Keeping them pretty quiet due to lyrical content, lol, but you might dig some of the stuff in my links. 'As the moment passes by' and 'I'll wait for you' are two of my personal faves. Along with 'Faith to fall.'
    • Yeah, musically it's what you want, but vocally... Maybe Alex should take some vocal lessons from Ken Tamplin. ;}
    • Your Eyes - Darkstone (2024) Two versions of my song number 6     https://suno.com/song/e8c1e85b-21ee-4d35-a64b-e786f00944d2   https://suno.com/song/9144c77a-bd7c-49c1-9508-f724d0832fdb
    • Yep, although I was never a massive fan.
    • Yes, celebrating their fifty years. There only two original members left in the band. Dusty might agree with me the Angels died when the original singer passed away.
    • It's just not the same without the Doc though...
