  1. I've seen Def Leppard live maybe 25 times dating back to 1983. If the Lepps were going to release a live album it should have been right after the Hysteria Tour, or perhaps shortly thereafter Adrenalize / Retro Active when Joe still had some vocals. Don't get me wrong, I still love Def Leppard and will see them again this summer / fall and enjoy every minute of it... that said I'm not afraid to state that Eliott's voice is all but shot now, and putting his vox on tape (live, without studio help) would be a black mark on the band's legacy in my opinion. They were SO good during the Hysteria Tour. I saw them in San Diego, Tacoma and Portland spanning from late 1987 to early 1989... ON THE SAME TOUR, and they were great each and every time. Give me some of that and I'm in. Give me Syracuse, New York 2010 and I'll pass (no offense, Syracuse).
  2. Jon should try stealing his balls back. His wife put them on the shelf back in about 1993. She's let him play with them a few times over the years, and that's the only reason songs like IT'S MY LIFE and WE WEREN'T BORN TO FOLLOW were released. Poor bastard!
  3. Remember how great Jon Bon Jovi was before he was nuetered? Thankfully I'll always have the band's first five CD's to look back on fondly.
  4. Does Ron Taylor even play music any longer? I can't see the new guy pulling off DREAM OF A LIFETIME. Oh well, at least I have those first two amazing CD's.
  5. I had no idea until I got to the place and they announced "The gentleman worked on some Hollywood films including INDEPENDENCE DAY and that he was also a musician and played for a band named PRETTY BOY FLOYD." My heart skipped a beat... I knew (unfortunately) Vinnie had passed away a few months before, but I had no idea he lived in Vancouver, Washington or that this was his house. Lots of cool PBF stuff including TONS of original concert fliers, etc. His record collection was great, although I missed out of the best stuff (Iron Maiden originals, etc.). I was able to purchase a few LP's including ANGEL CITY - NIGHT ATTACK, and quite a few cassette tapes priced at $.50 each. He had a lot of 80's hair metal / glam stuff (of course). Two REALLY cool cassette tapes I did obtain were promotional items that were obviously given away to concert promoters, etc. back in the day. I got the original BLUE TEARS tape (different track order than the official release) and another from a band named SYANIDE KICK. Again, these are demo-type tapes (complete recordings) released from an agency called 52ND AVE. RECORDINGS (or something very close to that). I'm guessing all the bands back in the day traded these things. The other tape I purchased (mentioned above) that reads "PRETTY BOY FLOYD BACKING TRACKS - WE CAN'T TRACK" only has two tracks on it, unfortuantely, and I have no idea what songs they are. Perhaps a couple that didn't make the first album or perhaps a couple intended for a subsequent album? I have no way of transfering them to computer, but if anyone is interested I'd be happy to record them onto cassette tape. Nothing special, really... I was hoping for backing tracks for the entire LEATHER BOYZ album Unfortunately the people running the auction were a bit unprofessional and didn't seem to know what they were doing. I was willing to buy a put-together "press kit" whereby I'd put a few photos, concert hand-bills, etc. into an envelope and pay for them, but they were having none of it. Said it was "too personal." TOO PERSONAL? My guess is all that cool memorabilia is simply going into a landfill.
  6. ... Ended up being the house of Vinnie Chas of Pretty Boy Floyd who passed away a couple months back. Sad... Lots of PBF memorabilia... concert fliers, rock mags from the early 90's,etc. I picked up one REALLY cool item. A cassette tape with handwriting that reads: "PRETTY BOY FLOYD RHYTHM TRACKS." Took it home and played the first cut... guitars and drums with no vocals, etc. (Not sure which song it was (and I've been a PBF fan since 1989). I'll listen to more tonight and report back.
  7. I only want the HEAVY METAL day, but I'm looking for the most complete / best picture / best sound quality DVD out there. I have one that's very good, but it's an abbreviated version with only two songs from most of the bands... VERY incomplete. Can anyone point me in the right direction, PLEASE! Thanks for any and all help!
  8. I need some help. As many of you know I'm not too keen on MOST new stuff, but I am trying to put together a comp of stuff I do like consisiting of mostly new(er) stuff. Keep in mind the bands I already have listed...I don't want to stray too far from "this" particular sound. Thanks for the help and suggestions. JOURNEY - NEVER WALK AWAY BROTHER FIRETRIBE - WILDEST DREAMS TREAT - ROAR LOVERBOY - JUST GETTING STARTED BON JOVI - WE WEREN'T BORN TO FOLLOW
  9. Remember, guys, Joe and the Leps DID sound this good from 1979 - 1992 (when they were this age). Elliott's lucky to be able to talk after screaming ROCK ROCK TIL YOU DROP 15,000 times the past 27 years for us.
  10. The album is MUCH better than I ever expected, but alas I am incredibly disappointed with the mastering... another victim of the LOUDNESS WAR. I want so badly to crank this one, but I can't... it's compressed to the point of clipping and completely brick-walled. Unfortunate as the music itself is very good.
  11. But it doesn't matter what we old fans think, because the 2010 soccer moms will buy every title, anyway
  12. I'm sure most of us "once upon a time 80's" Bon Jovi fans have already heard the live versions from the first four albums... much of their early stuff was bootlegged and readily available back in the day. What they should have done (with Slippery, for instance) was release some of the demos they recorded with alternate lyrics, Richie singing lead vocals, etc. I Have a decent quality cassette tape of such recordings and it's a really fun listen... and when I play it for unsuspecting friends they're always like "What the **** is this?" There's a version of I'D DIE FOR YOU that is an entirely different song. IIRC correctly it's tiled "Operator," but you'd know it from chorus structure.
  13. Received my official copy yesterday from NEH and I cannot speak highly enough of this one. This is good, good stuff people (Paul Stanley voice) and everyone here needs to buy it NOW. Take advantage of NEH's free shipping and order a copy today... you'll be hooked.
  14. I know it's been 27 years since 1983, but I still hate to see my many of my favorite rock stars fat and balding I always liked Bronz. Saw them open for somebody back in the day... honestly can't remember who now. I was thinking Scorpions / Ratt in 1985, but I'm pretty sure that was Victory, not Bronz. Guess I'll have to do some on-line searching. Those samples on Amazon sound pretty darn good, but where's Max Bacon?
  15. While I'm not a guitar expert (Pete, please feel to chime in if you're lurking), I absolutely love the fact Treat didn't tune-down their guitars for this album. I am so sick and tired of the "modern" sound whereby once melodic guitarists completely change their tone and end up sounding dark and boring. Melodic rock isn't dark nor boring, it's sunny skies and 85 degrees with the windows rolled down on the way to the lake. Listen to Paper Tiger... sounds like 1985 all over again from a guitar standpoint. AWESOME!
  16. Finally, a band best known for their work in the 80's that releases an album in 2010 that sounds fresh without sacrificing their roots (take note Jon Bon Jovi). Modern? Only in the sense that it was released like yesterday. Dated? Only if you think 40-somethings can't still rock. Good? **** yeah it is! God I wish all 80's bands planning on releasing albums in the new milennium would listen to this one first and realize you don't need to sound like Nickelback or be covered on American Idol to be considered contemporary.
  17. In Tracii's defense, I'm guessing he still has nightmares from missing out on hitting the REALLY big time with Axl back in the mid 80's (regardless whose fault that was). I've seen both incarnations of L.A. Guns the past few years and Phil's version was by far the superior show.
  18. How long before the photos of Brett and Mylie Cyrus engaged in coital activity show up on the web?
  19. Talk about an oxymoron... NO CHANCE the dude who produced Puddle Of Mud and Saliva is up to producing a combo between Out Of The Cellar and Invasion. This is nothing more than a marketing gimmick from Pearcy to push his project tot he Ratt-hangers-on (like me). Just tell us the truth, Stephen, you, like Jon Bon Jovi, are un-interested in your 80's roots. It's okay, I have Out Of The Cellar and can spin it anytime I want. Just don't package a piece of shit in a tuxedo and try to pass it off as anything more than that. Obviously I have little to no faith this one will be worth the price of a free download onto a cheap CD-R. On the other hand, I, perhaps more than anyone on this site, hope to be proven 100% wrong. Unfortunately, other than Def Leppard's Euphoria my batting average is pretty darn good... which is actually sucks!
  20. Pilson is so wrapped-up in Foreigner right now I really don't see this happening... with him, anyway. Lynch? Maybe... he did join the band on-stage for a song or two a short time ago, so that's possible, but ZERO chance of Pilson leaving Foreigner... maybe he'd be willing to take part in a Dokken GH package, but touring with Dokken rather than Foreigner (who are going out again this summer)? Fuhgetaboutit. Foreigner is doing better now than any time since about 1985. I am talking about a tour, not simply a song or two on a GH album as far as Pilson is concerned.
  21. You crazy kid. 'Dirty mind' is a filler? Haha. Yeah, *wink wink* I agree mate. Spot on. I'm also totally amazed with your production comments. I can honestly say you're the only person I've seen comment with any negativity on this aspect of the CD. It's compressed as hell, but that's par for the course for most CD's since about 1992. I agree with Tim, guitars are BURIED due to brick-wall production techniques. It's really a shame, but true. Give me back my analog tape!
  22. Cinder Road (to me, anyway) sound very modern(ish) on their debut album, and I'm not a huge fan. However, live they kick some SERIOUS ass. VERY 80's-like in their sound and approach. I was actually quite blown-away by them when they opened for Queensryche here in Portland, Oregon a few years ago. I wish they'd take that approach into the studio!
  23. Dude, they were in Seattle Sunday night. Sorry, man, you missed an incredible gig!
  24. ... and a heavy metal show broke out! Yes, that's right, the same dudes that wore girlish make-up and eyeliner while dressing in their cutsie yellow and black spandex in the 80's is actually a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY good live band and they absolutely ROCKED in Portland, Oregon last night (I still can't hear myself think). If all you heard from Stryper was "Honestly" back in 1986, I can see why you would dispise them (well, maybe not you guys on this site, but you know what I mean). I get it, I really do, but trust me, the band I saw last night was NOT Poison singing "Talk Dirty To Me" not by a long shot! And lead vocalist / guitarist Michael Sweet is perhaps the best "virtually unknown" frontman I've ever seen... and talk about a serious guitar player... you know how some people talk about Prince's genius? Sweet is one of the best I've heard, and I've heard just about all of them in my time. Truth be told, I only went to see the band last night as a buddy of mine the past 30 years was a big fan back in the day and he bought the tickets, so I had no expectations at all. Well, me and another buddy of mine who went with us (whose favorite band is Savatage) came away saying "I never knew they rocked like that" and "I just witnessed the best heavy metal show I've seen the past decade." INCREDIBLE!!!!!
  25. Crazy 8's from Portland, Oregon... played a lot of the same gigs as Dan Reed Network... but the 8's are NOT 80's rock like DRN... more like 80's pop but with a HUGE horn section.
