  1. So there's a good chance the new Keel release will be pressed on a green CD-R?
  2. Just like EVERY Bon Jovi album I've purchased after Keep The Faith, this one has one track that I could easily put on a Greatest Hits comp (so long as I get a full 74 minute CD), a couple others that I are okay (compared to other "current" bands), and a bunch more that have me scratching my head wondering where it all went wrong. I've finally given up thinking Bon Jovi might actually release an ENTIRE album of good ROCK songs ever again. The new stuff might fine for the band's younger audience or for the soccer moms who still think they have a chance to seduce Jon, or for anyone else who enjoys this style of music... but for me (an old-school Bon Jovi fan), it's over, and I was honestly one of their biggest fans from 1984 - 1995. Oh well, there's plenty of other stuff out there for me to listen to, and I can always pull out Slippery when I get the hankering.
  3. Always loved TEN. Discovered them back in about 1997 when NAME OF THE ROSE was first released and subsequently purchased all of their albums (and most of the Gary Hughes off-shoots). Some are better than others, obviously, but I dig their style and I'm hoping for a new CD one of the these days soon. Any word? Thanks!
  4. Our friend Oleg at DBNF has asked me to help identify this band: They look SO familiar, but I just don't know for sure. The dude on the far left looks like Greg Giuffria, but he's not tall enough. HELP!
  5. It's my understanding ticket sales were slumping... Def Leppard has become a summer-only band in my opinion, and that's not a bad thing at all. They and their fans (like me since 1983) are more suited for a nice, warm evening at an outdoor venue (ampitheatre) than the middle of November in some small(er) arena. I've seen Leppard at the Clark County Ampitheatre (just north of Portland) and the White River Ampitheatre (just south of Seattle) about 6 times total the past 4 years, and the crowds were always HUGE and the shows were always AWESOME. They know what there fans want and they deliver. They should stick with that formula and milk it for all it's worth. It's not 1987 anymore, Toto, and Def Leppard just isn't going to sell 16,000 tickets in Iowa in December... but they can sure as hell sell 10,000 in Sacramento in August!
  6. Like you sung along to "Runaway" or "Bad Name," or "Livin'" or "Bad Medicine" or "Born To Be My Baby" or "Sleep When I'm Dead" or "It's My Life?"
  7. I really want to pick this one up, but I'm worried about the packaging. Yes, the packaging. I'm a REALLY anal collector, and these new cardboard sleeves (not a standard digipack with a jewel case type tray) destroy CD's. No, they don't render them unplayable, but they scratch the hell out of them, and that won't do for me. I looked at this set yesterday and it appears the discs are shoved right into the cardboard case (very similar to the latest Foreigner set) with absolutely no protection (like a record without a sleeve). Am I correct?
  8. "Hot Girls In Love" belongs on every 80's melodic rock compilation in my opinion
  9. You have got to be fuckin' kidding in the mid 80s they were close to.................not now. last time i saw them at MK they sucked monkey balls................and the sound was shite.............as was the f golden circle. At least they aknowledge their old-school fans live (playing lots of stuff from Slippery and New Jersey). Let me preface that by saying the last time I saw them live, anyway, which was about 4 years ago. Who knows, Jon has a bitter look on his face now-a-days when asked about his 80's material, so it wouldn't surprise me if they pretended the first four albums never existed during their new tour and excluded them all-together (save for Wanted and Bad Name which if they didn't play the crowd might burn down the venue).
  10. I haven't heard the new samples yet, but I agree with your comment completely about having one or two good songs then a bunch of shit none of fans who were in high school in 1986 care about. I've said it before, and I think I'm 100% correct... Bon Jovi doesn't really care about us 1986'ers anymore. We're not the ones buying the t-shirts at the shows... Jon is aiming to please the soccer-mom crowd, and I think he's doing a pretty good job with that, so bully for him I guess. I'll buy the new album because I do enjoy WE WEREN'T BORN TO FOLLOW and I want to hear it on my home system and not from some overly compressed MP3... although the CD is probably brick-walled too
  11. For the record, KEEP THE FAITH was released November 4, 1992... Same day as the presidential election. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. I hated the outcome of the election, and hated the album at first as well. The album grew on me... the President never did. Looking back now, I wish Bon Jovi would release another album as good as KTF, and I wish Billy was in office rather than the Messiah. Enough on that, I don't want to wrinkle any feathers
  12. Jeezus, who stole Eric's nuts? I love the guy, but c'mon, bro. Really? A Mariah Carey track? DUDE!
  13. Okay, I'll admit, I've been VERY critical of Bon Jovi the past 17 years (save for a song here and there). In fact, I thought BORN TO FOLLOW sucked initially, but having heard it about a thoudsand times the past two weeks during the baseball playoffs I must say I'm digging it. I only hope the rest of the album doesn't disappoint... I remember being VERY excited about IT'S MY LIFE about a decade ago, only to be brought back to earth by most of the other tracks. We'll see... Being a Bon Jovi fan since 1985 (when I saw them open for RATT), and being perhaps the biggest SLIPPERY WHEN WET fan of all-time, I'll give the new album a fair shot before I throw it off a bridge (like I did with DESTINATION ANYWHERE... Honestly, it's at the bottom of the Columbia River right at the Oregon / Washington border if anyone is interested )
  14. Anyone pick this up yet? I'm grabbing mine on the way home from work. Looking forward to it! I only hope the didn't squash the sound with compression.

    W.E.T

Sound-samples and track reviews up at MR.com Now this is what I'm talkin' about! Sounds like it's the summer of 1986 to me... and trust me, I remember that summer as though it were yesterday. I was 18 years-old, two weeks out of high school and literally having the time of my life. Can't wait for this one to be released!
  16. Start here: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2 Great site, but the Beatles fans are 100% NUTS! They have like 23 seperate threads regarding the remasters already... not small ones, either. Sit back and plan on spending a weekend reading On a bright not (no pun intended), ther Mono box is receiving REALLY good praise, so I'm happy with my purchase.
  17. I received my MONO set yesterday, but I haven't opened it. I've heard some disparaging things around the net concerning sound quality. It appears "some" compression has been used, and many people have gone so far as to say the 1987 issues actually sound more like a flat transfer. Mind you, this is regarding the Stereo discs, NOT the Mono discs, but I'm still a bit worried
  18. Looking at the titles, and the seller's location I am wondering if DAVE has anything to do with this? Anyone else remember West Virginia Dave?
  19. Very reminiscent of someone many of us used to know from the old days. Whata'ya guys think? West Virginia looks familiar.
  20. Thanks, Rick! Digital re-mastering levels is a REALLY BIG issue with me. It's so sad to hear how badly such wonderful music can be ruined by an engineer who boosts the volume so loud who can't tell a bass drum from a bass guitar. There's a REALLY good explanation on youtube... simply type in LOUDNESS WARS and they video will come up. I cannot access youtube at work or I'd post the link. PLEASE, I beg all of you to check out the video... we are missing out on such good music now-a-days because of what the record companies are instructing the engineers to do. The latest Brother Firetribe CD is a perfect example. I love that one, but it is SO compressed I need to listen on about 1 on my home system. If you have an equalizer with spectrum analyzer you could see what I mean. The EQ lines should be bouncing up and down all over the place... when a CD is compressed (or maximized, or brickwalled as they call it), the lines are pegged to the very limit and don't move AT ALL. Very sad. Many listeners don't know the difference because they haven't heard it any other way. All I can say is if you have a turntable, play a Def Leppard album (for instance) on vinyl, then play one of their newly remastered CD's and you'll hear the difference. Like night and day, I promise. Enough of my ranting...
  21. They do, They are called 'Remasters'. Lots of bands release them either singularly or in box sets, on little 5" shiny discs called CD's These Beatles CD's are different, however. "Most" digital remasters are s**t... I won't even sugar-coat it. Mastering engineers now-a-days master CD's for the iPod era and boost levels to ungawdly heights making the music almost unlistenable. These Beatles CD's were taken DIRECTLY from the original master tape reels, and are said to have not been touched as far as compression, EQ boost, etc. I have yet to hear, but from what I'm told they're as close to the original U.K. LP's as you'll hear on a digital format. An almost perfect flat-transfer. I wish I could explain it better...
  22. I pony'ed up $250.00 for the MONO Box Set and it should be here today. Not sure if I'm going to open it or not... I have REALLY GOOD needle-drops of many of the mono's from the mid 80's Japanese red vinyl sources (which are said to be some of the best). I may keep it as a collectible item??? Are there any other Beatles fans on this site, or am I a lone soldier
  23. I've been an Ozzy fan since 1982 when I was in 4th. grade, and I've seen him many times during the past 3 decades. That said, I will NEVER pay to see him live again. He came to Portland with Rob Zombie a couple of years ago and his show was so bad I seriously considered walking out. This after I saw him in Auburn, Washington a short time before on the Sabbath reunion tour with Maiden. His voice was so bad he left the satge for nearly 1/2 hour... I'm not kidding. The dude couldn't sing a note, spiked him microphone on the stage and walked off. Sharon finally escorted him back (by the ear) 25 minutes later. Sorry, but Ozzy live is now dead Hopefully his new album will be better.
  24. Been a W.A.S.P. fan since 1984 when I stumbled upon their debut at Fred Meyer (local variety store) and couldn't pass up the cassette tape based on the artwork alone. I took it home and played it non-stop just about that entire summer... my friends thought I was crazy as they were alll listening to Scorpions pretty much exclusively. The band has lost me over the years, but this one sounds like it's harkening back to their glory days. I'll pick it up for sure!
