  1. Huh. Somehow I missed this poll back in the day. Probably because it was started by Geoff and I pretty much ignore anything that is spawned from his evil, evil mind. Anyhoo...I voted for "One Step From Paradise," but I easily could have picked "Bang Bang." Great songs on a great debut from a great band.
  2. Decyfer Down: "End of the Grey" was one of my favorite Christian hard rock/metal albums of 2006, and now they have a new CD ("Crash") coming out in early '09. You can hear one new song on their MySpace page (Decyfer Down Myspace Page) and it sounds pretty darn good. I love this band...consider me stoked!!!
  3. Eh, I'm not really feeling these new songs. Nothing bad, but nothing great either, and certainly not even close to being on par with "Get It" or "Peace Treaty." Maybe the Elefante brothers really were the so-called "x-factor" that made X-Sinner sound so good back in the day...
  4. Used to watch all these kind of blood and gore movies back in the 80s but as I've got older, I've got very squeamish and cannot stomach watching them! Remember the original though, with the weird looking Michael Berryman! (I think that was his name). See, the older I get, the gorier I like my films. Seriously, I wasn't all that much into horror flicks back as a teenager, but now that I'm an adult (or, uh, so they've told me), I like hardcore horror movies, the bloodier the better.
  5. Finally got my hands on this one and am quite glad I did. A strange yet intoxicating hybrid of hair-metal and metal-core, or "hair-core," as one review dubbed it. Some of the keys are too over-the-top for my taste, but they're pummeled into submission by the heavy guitars and screaming vocals, and there's simply no denying the utter catchiness of the album. Granted, this ain't for everyone, but some of us here who dabble in the modern metal genre should appreciate it. I know I'll be spinning it quite a bit in the days to come. "Show Me What You Got" is already stuck in my head like a wad of taffy stuck to the bottom of my shoe.
  6. Latest acquisition... Blessed by a Broken Heart: "Pedal to the Metal" (really enjoying this)
  7. Latest acquisition... THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 (Unrated)--not nearly as good as the first one (the remake, I mean), but what it lacks in the tension department it heartily makes up for in the gore quotient. This sucker was wet and red and this sick puppy enjoyed just about every minute of it.
  8. Finally got around to checking out this new song and damn, it sounds good. Give me an album full of tunes like that and I'll be happier than Geoff on a sleepover at the Playboy Mansion.
  9. Latest acquisition... THE RUINS (Unrated)--saw this in theaters and thought it was a pretty good horror movie. Takes a lot to make me squirm, but the amputation scene did just that. Haven't watched this unrated version yet, but looking forward to the extra snippets of gore.
  10. Latest acquisition... The Showdown: "Back Breaker" (one of the best heavy/thrash metal albums of the year)
  11. Latest acquisitions... Jet Black Stare: "In This Life" Sweet Cheater: "Eatin' Ain't Cheatin'" Fate: "V" Pop Evil: "Lipstick on the Mirror" Testament: "Formation of Damnation" 3 Doors Down: s/t
  12. Latest acquisitions... DOOMSDAY--damn good action movie from the director of The Descent. Recalls the good ol' days when action films weren't castrated, sissified PG-13 affairs. This sucker earns its R-rating. LETHAL WEAPON 4--the only Lethal Weapon flick I was missing on DVD. Plus, I got it for free, so ya can't beat that. This is actually my second-favorite entry in the franchise, after the first one.
  13. Yes, every time I go to post a thread in the "Other Music Styles" section about the killer new opera CD I found, I always end up forgoing the idea, realizing that my beautiful opera recommendation would be lost in the swamp of modern rock/metal bands that have taken over the section. Where, oh where, does one go these days to post about opera, polka, and other disturbingly under-discussed musical genres? Seriously, a Modern Rock/Metal Section is a good idea, given that a lot of the newer stuff has been embraced by melodic hard rockers, including myself, probably because modern bands have finally learned how to incorporate melody, hooks, and harmonies into their sound. But if this idea doesn't come to pass, I won't sweat it; I'll just keep going to the "Other Music Styles" thread. Let's face it, we already have Modern Rock/Metal Section; it's just a matter of do we want to officially label it that or not.
  14. You mean when I say things like Bon Jovi > Iron Maiden, it pisses you off? See but when you say it, you say it knowing that your wrong, he actually thinks he's right. Uh, is now a bad time to tell you that I actually do like Bon Jovi better than Iron Maiden?
  15. You mean when I say things like Bon Jovi > Iron Maiden, it pisses you off?
  16. Yep, I mentioned that earlier in this thread...but as usual, nobody listened to me. I'm sorry, did you say something?
  17. Latest acquisition... DIARY OF THE DEAD--Romero returns with another solid entry in his long-running zombie saga, opting to shoot in the same pseudo-documentary, hand-held video camera-style of Blair Witch/Cloverfield, but far less shaky. Of course, being Romero, he doesn't skimp on the gore, my favorite setpiece being the dispatching method of choice for the Amish farmer (those who have seen this film know what I'm talking about). OK, so maybe it's not quite a cinematic masterpiece, but horror fans thinking they should skip this one would be dead wrong...
  18. Latest acquisitions... Saints of the Underground: "Love the Sin, Hate the Sinner" (expected better, given the talent involved) Shinedown: "Sound of Madness" (excellent modern rock/metal)
  19. Latest acquisition... HOSTEL 2 (Unrated Director's Cut)--some horror fans were "hostile" (pun intended) toward this second helping of "torture porn," but I enjoyed the heck out of it. Already pretty gruesome in its theatrical R-rated form, this version tosses in some extra snippets of blood/gore.
  20. What are you, a glutton for punishment? OK so I got it cheap, and I love the Scorps... I love the Scorps too, but I wouldn't touch "Eye II Eye" for a penny; heck, for that matter, you'd have to pay me to listen to it again... But hey, to each their own, brother...one man's crap is another man's treasure.
  21. Eric who? Sounds like a wanker...
  22. Latest acquisitions... Vayden: "Children of our Mistakes" P.O.D.: "Angels & Serpents" Rev Theory: "Light it up" Theory of a Deadman: "Scars & Souvenirs" Stereoside: "So Long"
  23. This is some sweet stuff. At times the vocalist reminds me of Daughtry, but I daresay this band is more melodic and sports bigger backing vocals. It's produced by Travis Wyrick, one of my favorite contemporary producers, so you know it sounds top-notch sonically. I'll gladly buy a copy when they get around to releasing this. Not sure if this is a Christian band or not--the name could be an indication of that, and Wyrick typically works with Christian groups--but the lyrics aren't going to turn anyone off, that's for sure. Geoff, check these guys out ASAP. If "Paper Dolls" doesn't have you drooling like a Thorazined retard, then I will give up predicting what you will and will not like.
  24. Latest acquisition... Armored Saint: "Revelation" (a bit of a disappointment, frankly)
