I expected only good songs, and that's what I hear...really good songs...melodic, more Rock than any of his solo stuff...not the 80s vibe of old Mastedon, but much more Rock than anything he's done in over 15 years...they're also not billing it as a total return to old Mastedon Rock style...but songs that hearken back to both Mastedon and his time in Kansas...and that I can definitely hear...

They were never any heavier than commercial Def Leppard...the only thing that would have made those first two albums better would have been if John Elefante had sang all of the songs...

Bottle Rocket is a strong record of Pop Rock ala COLLECTIVE SOUL or GOO GOO DOLLS...it's easily as good as anything those two bands have done...

This is such a good band...I like the heavier direction they've been taking...

I thought the samples sounded good, myself...I don't think they write bad songs...just songs not everyone can get into.

Not as immediate as the last two, but subsequent spins have caused it to begin sinking in and I'm digging it...love JC's voice...

I listened to the samples @ MR.com and was blown away...JSS was born to sing in this context...fantastic stuff and I cannot wait for the CD!

Holy Soldier and Last Train had the same singer...they had a different singer on thier 3rd album Promise Man...on the live album, they asked the original singer to come back as a special guest.

Journey (pre-Cain) King's X The Beatles Also, Firehouse, Queensryche & TNT all have albums where someone other than the lead singer sang a song...

He doesn't give them his "best stuff"...he writes WITH them/for them specifically and individually on a project-to-project basis...it's not like he gives them existing songs that he leaves off of his albums. You can heat Butch's signature in the songs, but Butch could not do those songs as they are...they're usually more "watered down" than Butch's own stuff, musically and lyrically, to appeal to a wider, more general audience which is why Pink/Avril have pretty big songs when he helps them.
