Can a song be too catchy?

I know there was a 'what song is spinnin your head' thread somewhere but I couldn't find it.

But this is a bit different.

I have 'Gravity' by Harem Scarem stuck in my head and its drivin me nuts. Not the best song on the album but by God that chorus line gets stuck in your head.....almost to an annoying degree.

Anyone else have this lately ??

Haha, creeps. A bad song can't be too catchy if you never listen to it. ;)

I assumed the thread would be a little different and I was going to say a resounding no, that a song cannot be too catchy - have too many hooks.

I occasionally have crabby songs in my head but it's usually for a reason other than it being too catchy... something just makes it pop into my head for whatever reason.

But my answer is still 'no' anyway. ;)

Ohhh and The Chieftains 'Farewell to Carlingford', that's one of those kind of songs that once it's in my head, everything I do falls in time to the beat of it - especially my footfall. Drives me INSANE! It's actually an enjoyable song if it doesn't get its claws in me.

The singer on The Borders of Light album said he couldn't get the chorus of Chimera out of his head for days after recording it...hahah that started sending him crazy. Gets stuck in my head too now if I listen to it too much

I guess the only "songs" i'd find annoyingly catchy would be certain commercial jingles, especially when they use existing songs.

I do have songs stuck in my head from time to time, but never really to a point where it's annoying.
