From bravewords.com:

PowerPlay has just released their first single, “City Of Love”, from the new album All Those Years, which is set to be released on September 4th via Target Records. An official video for the track can be found below.

After 20 years of silence, the west coast rock group PowerPlay from Copenhagen, Denmark, is together again and returns with a new strong melodic AOR rock album, inspired by the sound and feel of bands like Toto, Journey, Supertramp and Starship

PowerPlay was founded in a basement in Hellerup, Copenhagen, in 1987 by Simon Dalberg (drums), Erik Thomsen (vocals), Kurt Lundgaard (guitar), and Peter Gjedde (keyboards). The music was heavily inspired by Toto, Journey, Starship and other West Coast bands of that time and with a twist from Supertramp, but always with a twist of pure energy and the desire to play and perform with own composed music.

PowerPlay had various bass players in the first years, but after a while the young and talented bass player Philip Stricker joined and brought new dimensions to the music. The band was constantly on the move and played in many underground places around Copenhagen like Umatic and Loppen, and became rather popular in those environments.

In 1991 PowerPlay won the music award ”Let’s Rock” in Trommen as the best performing act and with that title also a contract for a record at Werner Studio in Copenhagen. Unfortunately, due to some very sad circumstances, the band never came to the point of making the record, and as such Powerplay stopped their activities in 1992.

PowerPlay is now back after 20 years, and in the original setup: “We have never been better”, they say and actually PowerPlay is now ready to release a record with all new material – but for the fans from the good old days, there will be one or two oldies in new flashy clothes. So look forward to 10 great and melodic AOR rock songs on the album All Those Years, out in September.

Sounds very gentle and safe, but pretty nice too. Never heard of this band before, but it's a favourable tune.

Nice one but I don't like the sound at all.

Nice one, but you don't like the sound at all? Does that make mental sense?

    • Just listened to these 2 songs today, awesome tracks. Too bad they split up....
    • That song is...actually really good, lol. The main riff sounds like it could have been on Kill 'Em All and Hetfield's voice is in surprisingly great shape. My only gripe is the drumming, which...well, yeah, there's nothing we can do about that
    • Well, at least they're being honest now.
    • Looking forward to giving this a listen tonight.
    • Ezzakly. I was having this conversation with my friend this weekend. It took us a while, but we're finally building up our football program. I believe that has a lot to do with the amount of immigrants we've had. They move to Canada and have no love for hockey; they wanna play football. Wish this had happened decades ago. My folks never let me play hockey, because it's so bloody expensive, but there wasn't a decent football program.
    • I think I recall listening to one of their albums. Don't they have a Southern Rock/Country vibe? Or maybe I'm just reading into their name, which makes me think of Brad Paisley.

Produced by Greg Fidelman with founding members James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, and clocking in at over 77 minutes, the 12-track album is Metallica’s first full length collection of new material since 2016’s Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. Here’s the track listing for 72 Seasons: 01. 72 Seasons 02. Shadows Follow 03. Screaming Suicide 04. Sleepwalk My Life Away 05. You Must Burn! 06. Lux Æterna 07. Crown Of Barbed Wire 08. Chasing Light 09. If Darkness Had A Son 10. Too Far Gone? 11. Room Of Mirrors 12. Inamorata “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves,” said Hetfield of the album’s title. “The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”   https://bloody-disgusting.com/music/3741721/metallica-returns-with-new-album-single-and-tour/
