Now this is one movie I would be interested in! :)

Rob Zombie, who directed and produced the 2007 remake of Halloween, will change gears and write, direct and produce a new film about the Philadelphia Flyers of the 1970s, according to a report by Mike Fleming of Deadline.com.

The film, titled Broad Street Bullies, will track the Flyers’ emergence from an expansion team to a physical, title-winning squad during the 1970s.

The Flyers support Zombie’s plan for the film, Fleming reports. He writes that Zombie wants the film to be “Rocky meets Boogie Nights on ice.”

“Each character involved is more outrageous than the next,” Zombie said. “The backdrop of the turbulent year of 1974 is perfect for this ‘stranger than fiction’ sports tale.”

The Flyers were given the nickname Broad Street Bullies in early 1973 after the Philadelphia Bulletin published a story using the term to describe the team’s physical play.

Philadelphia won the Stanley Cup in 1974 and 1975 and lost in the Cup Finals in 1976.
