Rockin' Christmas

This may have been done before, I hope not.

I've been wondering today (anything to escape the formality of my in-laws' Christmas) whether there are any good rock and metal Christmas songs. I don't mean novelty songs, such as Slade or rock versions of Christmas Carols, etc. Can anyone think of any good rock or metal Christmas songs? The only one I can think of is:

Mercyful Fate - No Presents For Christmas

Hopefully I can burn a CD and sneak it into the car instead of appalling ear torture like 'Mistletoe and Wine'.

Not exactly an uplifting tune, but I submit NITRO's "Johnny Died on Christmas" for your consideration...

Errr... 'No Presents For Christmas' is a King Diamond song.

Btw I have only one other title on my mind: Red Water (Christmas Mourning) by Type O Negative.

Sorry! (My love for King Diamond starts and ends with 'The Family Ghost', I'm slightly ashamed to admit.) :anon:

Any hard rock or AOR Christmas gems out there?

These are just the none "carols" as you say but man there are also some great hard rock renditions of popular carols that have their own spin on them. Halford, The Screaming Santas, Twisted Sister, Helix, 7th Heaven, and TSO have great Christmas themed albums.

I do a radio show and played TONS of Hard Rock / AOR / Metal Christmas songs for my Xmas special!

Cheers for these! I see that there are quite a few metal songs with Christmas in the title. Lots of songs by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which is a band I don't really know. I'm aware of the Savatage connection, but that's the extent of my knowledge.

Any recommendations?

I need to check out some of those listed by Drumr and Capt as I haven't heard quite a few of them.

Besides the X-mas songs listed already...

(not really Christmas, but seasonal)

As for TSO, my faves are Christmas Eve Sarajevo (played alot around the holidays), Wizards in Winter, A Mad Russian's Christmas, Christmas Canon, An Angel's Share, This Christmas Day... they have quite a few I like and most can be found on Youtube.

Recently came across this one:

American Angel - Best Part Of Christmas

I've bought the CD (EP 92) but not received it yet, so no idea if the song is any good (although the CD has good reviews).

Definitely a classic. Note for note it's the same recording that appears on Savatage's 1995 "Dead Winter Dead".

    • So some may remember that Tyketto toured recently and aside from Forever Young, I never delved into this band. So I did, so I'd know the songs in concert and was blown away. A great band with an awesome catalog that I had missed out on. To be fair, in the 80's it was a lot harder to access and find out about a lot of the more fringe bands, that's my excuse anyway. So I now am faced with digging deeper into some other bands I've overlooked. Some of these I gave a go, and wasn't really impressed, but now I'm starting fresh with an open mind. So below is a list of bands I have eitehr never bothered with, or never really gave a proper go. Lizzy Borden is on the list and I have done a bit of their stuff and like it a lot, so I will definately dig deeper into them (I've got some older stuff and some newer stuff, but have skipped quite a few albums) But the others, fire away, tell me which bands have killer material that I'll froth and how stppid I've been to skip them. • I like the album art. I love when contemporary Glam Metal bands have album art with a genuine 80s vibe to it.
    • Nope, for a while, I used to think Rapunzel from Tangled (2010) was hot... But then I stopped being attracted to cartoon characters.
    • This is definitely the first time I've heard about it, I'll have to give it a listen!
