CRASHCARBURN - 'This City Needs A Hero'

Geoff

Recommended Posts

Picture this:

1. Bring Me Back (sounds like Waltham)

2. Serenade (Sounds like Cauterize)

3. Get Away (Sounds like FFAF)

4. So Young

5. Broken Skyline (Sounds a little like Yellowcard)

6. Heroes (Sounds like Just Surrender)

7. Scarlet Letter (Sounds like Cauterize)

8. For Every Star (Was picking up a Falcon Scream/Smilek vibe)

9. Sing This at my Wake (Sounds like Just Surrender)

10. Under a Falling Sky (Sounds like Fightstar)

If that appeals to you at all, check these guys out. These guys have a great sound, unique vocalist. The first 4 songs really kicked my ass away and the rest of the CD kept up a great quality. No fillers at all (the closest is track 5, which is still good).

Definitely a first for me, a band from South Africa. But have a listen to these guys... I like it a lot.

'Serenade':

The music was awesome. I really like this but I have to be able to get past the singer's whiny voice. "Serenade" was the best of what was on myspace...Good choice Geoff.

I'm not sure if I'd call it whiny, but yeah, the singer's voice is a little "hhhmmmmm" on a few songs - definitely unique. I don't think it's that bad overall, though. :) Good to hear you like the song, mate. They are musically very, very solid.

If you ask me, that 'Serenade' song sounds like an out-take from Cauterize's 'Paper wings'.

Sadly it looks like you can only get this on ITunes and that's a pain in the ass, but did anyone look into this band at all? This is actually one of my favourite CDs at the moment. Excellent stuff, and essential for fans of the bands I mentioned above.

I listened to a couple sound samples Geoff. I really wasn't feeling them though. I'd rather listen to the bands you compared them too than to actually listen this band. With a little help I think they could do a good album.

Goddamn I just f*cking love this album. I just wish it was physically released so more people could listen and fall in love with it.

Well, in a most surprising, but amazingly joyous turn of events, these guys have persisted and released album number 2! It's called 'Long Live Tonight'.

Tracks:

01 - Long Live Tonight

02 - More Than This

03 - Die Beautiful

04 - Twisted

05 - Don't Wait

06 - Skin Versus Bone

07 - Piano Interlude

08 - So Long September

09 - Winter

10 - A Quiet Place To Hide

11 - London Killing

12 - Somerset West

13 - Silhouette On A Mountain

14 - Green Eyes Blue Skies

The problem? Once again, it's only been released in MP3 format. Such a huge shame because these guys are great. Of the 14 songs there is not one I dislike, the production job is immaculate and 'Twisted' is one of the top 10 songs of the year so far, imo. Just brilliant. 'Skin Versus Bone' has one of the most delicious AOR-style choruses I've heard this year too, maybe slightly restrained by the drums, and 'Piano Interlude' will make you ache viciously for the fact it's not a full "proper" song. Super consistent, great disc... easily one of the best modern albums of the year.

Where can I download their stuff from, seeing as they didn't release any CD's. I can't download from Amazon as I'm a non US customer. I-tunes pisses me off as I have to convert everything I download to MP3. Any other good options for downloading these digital only releases?

I can't believe I missed someone playing with my awesome threads. Let me know how you go, mate. If you can't find it anywhere (I couldn't on quick peek) I'll assist. ;)

Oh, and just a gentle reminder how awesome this song is:

QFT.

Anyway, I was more or less talking to myself for the duration of this thread, but just in case anyone cared, these guys did actually release a 3rd album called 'Gravity' in 2012. I dare say they are no longer active now, and I miss them. There's just something about this band, exactly the same feeling I get with Silly Fools and Coldrain... I just love their vibes and the genuine nature of these foreign bands. I dunno, just love all 3 bands.

I did give 'Gravity' a listen today, and as expected, they delivered the goods again. Three great albums in a row. Here are a couple of the highlights from 'Gravity;'

did you listen to the new Coldrain?

Yes, I did almost as immediately as I saw your post. I was going to post an "after 2015" list with all the albums I missed first time around - and trust me, there were a lot.

I think Coldrain is about the best of everything I missed first time around.

I love the band. If I'm completely honest, their songs don't consistently blow my mind, but they constantly please me greatly. So many very good songs. I wish they had a few more that blew me away, but I do really like them as a band. Easily one of the best modern rock bands around at the moment... easily.
