but I still think this has been a very, very quiet year for modern rock and it's taking advantage of quiet times. you see that where we differ. for me, Adelitas Way, Nural, The Veer Union, Society Red, Daughtry and Halestorm, hey even still Papa Roach all rate very good to excellent for me (and much better than NNL) making it a strong year for modern rock. Add to that the excellent Young Guns EP and some potentially very good upcoming releases like New Device, Madam Adam, Default etc and i'd say it might even end up being a cracking year. More so than say than 2008, when only Hinder, Shinedown and SOTY stood out (...plus say Anberlin and Safety Suit). If anything 2009 has been quiet for MHR!!! Yeah, quiet all round. Not just modern. Modern's actually going along better than MHR, imo. I don't know if it really is that slow a year, but it certainly seems it. Overall, Steel Panther is still the only real ball tearer for me... with Place Vendome and Farcry close enough. Just plucked my top 10 from last year... pretty nice looking list to me, imo. Better than most this year's modern rock: HINDER - Take it to the limit DISCIPLE - Southern Hospitality STORY OF THE YEAR - The Black Swan QUIETDRIVE - Deliverance SIMPLE PLAN - s/t FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS - Underdog Alma mater FUNERAL FOR FRIEND - Memory and Humanity ESCAPE THE FATE - This war is ours HOUSTON CALLS - End of an error BLIND - s/t the quality falls off a cliff at no 6 mate ;-)) Id have Shinedown, Safety Suit, Anberlin and Bulletproof Messenger above all those. (in fact the FOAF is quite hideous and unlistenable to these ears!). I'll give you the top 5 tho. Nice. Happy days. That Forever The Sickest Kids disc is absolutely awesome, imo. Well, I love all of the last 5 hence them being there. The 4 you mention are all nice, but not top tenners, imo. Anberlin and Safetysuit are great, though. I'm not confident to comment on what might be the best of the rest of the year. You guys know what I'm excited about and I hope they deliver, but who knows? I don't know if there are any modern rock bands left with releases that could tear the year apart, though.

Overall, the vocals are really bad and I don't get what all you guys see in that average-as-sin ballad, but to each their own. It's not a bad disc. Probably better than Outloud. But not a real contender for a high spot this year, imo.

No, you need to both a) make more runs, and B ) get the opposition out twice. Therefore if the English overtook the australians and then got bowled out with a lead of say 20, the Aussies would have had to go into bat and make that 20 runs to win the match. This is part of the reason the english were stalling, ... so even if they did get bowled out with a small lead, and the Australians had to go into bat, there would not have been enough time. (They lose a pre-determined set amount of minutes for change of innings, so say there was 10 minutes left and it takes 15mins for a change of innings, it would have been the end. In the end, the English guys survived anyway... Yeah, so if there isn't enough time for Australia to bat those last few balls it's still a draw? It just seems like a hell of a lot of effort to go to for five days for such a pathetic and unsatisfactory result for everyone. No wonder I never watch test cricket... Are most Aussies completely ignorant about Cricket like you obviously are? Seems like you don't know everything about everything after all mate. With regard to the vocal discussion, I can't remember thinking this guy was too bad (will spin this one again soon, today) but I agree with Glen, the Firenote guy is awful. But there are 3 better songs on Firenote than anything on here. And Jez, did you hear every Nirvana CD to decide they were not a good band? If I hear 5 CDs from a single band and am not entitled to form an opinion on them, I apologise. If you get stabbed in the face five times, are you going to go back to your attacker and ask for 5 more wounds to the face?

Yeah, I actually love the debut ferociously but do admit it would be even better with more balls and I do prefer 'Screw it' and 'Cockroach'.

She was also just recently in the movie "Taken" where she played the friend that was supposed to have the relatives at home in Paris(she was a blonde in that movie as she was in Supernatural). Okay, serious question. So if Australia had bowled England out yesterday just before end of play and England had 700 runs, Australia would still be the victors with 674 runs? Even though England had more runs (even though, obviously if given more time Australia would easily make the difference) they'd win because there isn't time for Australia to quickly make up the 27 runs? However you answer the question, I still persist - the rules are fucking stupid!!! If you can't finish it off properly, why bother? Also, according to your rules Australia obviously didn't do what they needed to, so why is not then a loss to Australia? Didn't England "win" then? Why is it a draw? Yep, I have to agree. Back when I was a kid I thought pop music was awful and still believe it is, but compared to the shit out there at the moment - no contest. Death to all but metal.

I wouldn't say I love No Love Lost. I still think it's the best modern rock CD of the year but I still think this has been a very, very quiet year for modern rock and it's taking advantage of quiet times. Yes, there are 4 absolutely stunning song on there - 3 are still my overall favourite songs of 2009 and the rest isn't perfect. But I think there are only 2 fillers on it. Adelitas Way has a few fillers and some great tracks too. But nothing on here, imo, is as good as the 4 best on NLL. And overall, I would have to say that NLL is the overall stronger disc. As you say, to each their own though. This will probably rank decently for me, but not too high.
