  10. Youve got to admit though that the whole structure of the song IS genius. And even if the chorus is simple it sticks in your head like glue.......... Sorry mate, it's not memorable enough for me - I had to Google the lyrics! Fair play, it is one of the better songs. Do you think we've debated this one enough now? yep........

  12. here you go mate - Jeff Scott Soto reflects on the death of pop legend Michael Jackson: "Every day the World mourns over the loss of a loved one, a relative, even a pet...but it's not every day the whole World mourns over a single person like they were a loved one or blood relative. Thu, June 25, 2009, WE lost an icon, a legend, a superstar named Michael Jackson. I don't think there is a man, woman or child over 5 years old in the World who doesn't know the name Michael Jackson, THIS in itself is an achievement that is rarely attainable anymore but it shows this man was known for better or worse (in my book, always better, the negative side of his life was always something I always chose to ignore as the MUSIC blanketed this) by EVERY person in the 21st century, and he will be remembered through his music & his legend. Of all my childhood memories, many of them included buying my 1st 45 Single (yes, that would be a small 8" vinyl platter called a 'record'!) of the Jackson 5ive's 'I Want You Back' to standing in front of a mirror at the ripe age of 5 with a spoon in my hand, pretending it was a microphone & singing at the top of my lungs to every word little Mike was belting out. When my brother Joey & I were about 7 & 8, we would draw crowds at the local Boys Club of NY as the song Rockin' Robin would be blast on a record player, Joey would pound on benches/tables as they were percussive instruments while I crooned along to the alto notes of Michael's version. They called us the 'Tweet Tweet Brothers', if you know the song, you'd understand why. Last night, I was witnessing the birth of a new supergroup, an amazing incarnation called Chickenfoot (featuring the eternally youthful Sammy Hagar, the baddest bass pounder Michael Anthony, the untouchable Joe Satriani & the mischievous Chad Smith) performing in London, an energetic & amazing evening only to be flattened by the news of what was happening in Los Angeles simultaneously....a night to remember indeed! Today & forever, I celebrate the music & the influence of Michael Jackson, long live the King Of Pop, long live 1 of my few mentors of the mic, RIP Michael!" - Jeff.
  13. It's my favourite album of the year so far. I've put the question out there several times now and still had no reply as to what makes these lyrics inferior to the rest of the lyrics in the music we listen to. Until someone can validly tell me why there is less merit in Steel Panther's lyrics than anyone else's it will remain at the top of my 2009 list too... unless someone records an album which is as good as 'Feel The Steel' this year. Simple as that. The songs are the best I have heard in 2009. Stop prattling on about the lyrics. If you like them then that's lovely. The fact this band get a ton of undeserved hype and album sales is criminal when you think that talented bands like MARCELLO/VESTRY and FARCRY are playing 80's MHR and not getting anywhere near this level of hype. Sure, most AOR lyrics are not great - but never are they embarrassing to the point that you cringe every time you hear them. If I was 13 years old I might want to play this to my mates, but if I did that with this album I wouldn't expect to have any mates left. Anyway, this thread is about parody albums - and my view is that they're rarely funny. They NEVER have longevity. Let someone else buy them so you can hear them and laugh once, so you don't then see them collect dust on the shelf. If someone can tell me a parody song/album that is genuinely worth playing more than once or twice then let me know 'cos I haven't heard it. Sorry but I'm a serious music collector/fan & don't have time for this stuff. My simple point is - I do not understand why 'Asian Hooker' or 'Community Property' cannot be heard a second time but 'Slipped her the big one' by Danger Danger or 'She goes down' by Motley Crue can? I've said it a million times, but you haters are not making sense to me. A good song is a good song... it's a simple equation. Marcello/Vestry and Farcry are both excellent. But just like in the 80's some bands got lucky and sadly a bunch of equally good ones didn't. This time round Steel Panther got lucky and I am happy as f*ck for them. I'd rather be behind a genuinely excellent band finally going somewhere rather than tearing them down at every opportunity. I agree that a good song is a good song. I also agree that "Asian Hooker" would be awesome if it had good lyrics. But it doesn't. They're horrible. Honestly, I could've written better myself in 5 minutes. In all fairness mate, I doubt that. I think that song is pretty awesome. From the 'Oriental' intro - to the killer verses and the massive over the top chorus. Love it.
  14. Straight For Your Heart - HEAT
  15. Back to fuckin work tomorrow after 3 fuckin weeks. Not lookin forward to it! doh.
  16. You like? Would be surprised if it's your thing but you might like a few tunes... Actually my opinions were very similar to Geoff.......solid as hell throughout but nothing really stood out. Mind you 'I would Do Anything' really kicked my arse if I remember rightly!
  17. Sorry Jez - Dream Theater next - Spare Gone Dowe
  18. Deep Purple next - Spare Gone Dowe

Just take a look at Scrap Mettle to see just how badly this can be done.....now that album is cringeworthy...poor songs and not really that funny. Songs like 'Asian Hooker' and 'Community Property' are great in my book. Cheers
