  1. Two more songs up on Freakshow's MySpace page; "Ripper" and "Looking Back at Me". "Looking Back at Me" kicks ass. Looking forward to a full CD from these guys. *Is it just me, or is the guitar on "Everyone" dangerously close to "Somebody Save Me" by Cinderella? Perhaps LaBar couldn't help himself. ::
  2. Well judging from the pics on his site, it certainly looks like he's telling the truth.... scroll to the bottom of the main page... http://www.warrenvonkruck.com/?mpf=frame
  3. Well I don't know for sure but at least it's not as bad as what Ozzy and Sharon did by re-recording the bass and drum parts on the first two Ozzy albums to screw Kerslake and Daisly out of $$$$$. I might be mistaken, but isn't that what is happening here? I thought Dokken was recording their early hits with a new guitarist and bassist. Am I reading that incorrectly? What I mean is that I don't know that Don is just doing this to screw George and Jeff like Ozzy was doing or if they are doing it just to update the songs. Ozzy and Sharon did it because Kerslake and Daisly had been suing them for unpaid royalties for years and I don't know if Don is doing it for that reason or not. Don and George approve this post...
  4. I know Yeah! matches up year wise closer to Have a Nice Day, but I want to see a death match betwen Yeah! and TLFR.... Mike
  5. Bon Jovi - not much of a contest on their first releases for me. LOVE Roulette! Bon jovi - This one surprised me! I almost clicked High N' Dry without giving it much thought, but when I began to analyze the songs from each, i realized I liked more stuff off of 7800 F Def Leppard - Pyromania v. Slippery is a dead heat as far as I'm concerned; I might say Slippery next week Def Leppard - Hysteria thrashed New Jersey when I looked at 'em head to head. Is it just me, or are there some TERRIBLE fillers on NJ? (Homebound Train, Ride Cowboy Ride, Love for Sale)... yikes! Def Leppard - Never really got into Keep The Faith Bon Jovi - I actually like some stuff from Slang quite a bit, but I enjoy These Days quite a bit more
  6. Ran out of questions for this poll, or I'd have done their entire discographies...
  7. My answer would most likely change with my mood, but currently I'd say "Just got Lucky" would be my fave. When you're in the mood for something more "metallic" though, it's hard to beat the title track or "When Heaven Comes down".

  9. LOS ANGELES - Queensrÿche envisions war through the eyes of a soldier with the band's twelfth studio release, the epic concept album AMERICAN SOLDIER. The ambitious album encompasses a dozen songs inspired by numerous interviews with veterans conducted by Geoff Tate, the group's singer and chief songwriter, who was intent on telling their story using their words. After speaking with soldiers who served in various conflicts-from World War II to Iraq-Tate turned their firsthand experiences from the frontlines into an unflinching musical examination of the life of a solider and the consequences of war. AMERICAN SOLDIER will be available from Atco/Rhino on March 31 for a suggested list price of $18.98 (CD) and $9.99 (digital). Tate, Michael Wilton (guitar), Ed Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums) recorded the album in 2008 over the course of nine months. The idea for AMERICAN SOLDIER, Tate says, came from hearing stories from fans that are veterans, as well as his own father, who served in both Korea and Vietnam. "My father was a career military man, but until very recently he never spoke about what he went through. I think that reticence is true of a lot of veterans, which means most people never truly understand what it means to be a soldier at war. Hearing what he and some of our fans have endured made me want to share their stories with the world. This is an album about the soldiers, for the soldiers, as told by the soldiers themselves." Those stories resonate at the heart of AMERICAN SOLDIER, imbuing each song with vivid details about both the emotional and physical impacts of war, evoking war zone battles ("Middle Of Hell"), sacrifice ("The Killer"), loss ("If I Were King"), the longing for home ("Remember Me"), and adjusting to society after returning from war ("Man Down!"). Tate recorded many of his interviews with the soldiers, and some dialogue from these discussions is mixed into several of tracks, allowing the soldiers' own words to help tell their compelling stories. The band also brought a few of the soldiers into the studio with them to record vocals. The verses of the track "Unafraid" feature the voices of Chris Devine, a Vietnam veteran, and Sean Lenahan, a veteran of Somalia, recalling their war experiences while Tate provides the anthemic chorus. Also making a guest vocal appearance is Tate's 10-year-old daughter Emily on the gripping duet "Home Again," which examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives, with Geoff singing from the soldier's point of view and his daughter singing from the viewpoint of the child left behind. Making the album, Tate says, was an enlightening process. "I was surprised to learn how little has changed through the generations. I spoke with a Vietnam vet whose experience wasn't all that different from a soldier who fought in Somalia almost 30 years later. But what surprised me the most was how antiwar most soldiers are. To me, that makes their sacrifices even more moving." Soon after the release of AMERICAN SOLDIER, Queensrÿche will launch an extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow later in 2009. The shows will be presented in three suites, with the band performing sets from AMERICAN SOLDIER, Rage For Order, and Empire. The first date of the tour will be April 16 at Snoqualmie Casino in the band's hometown of Seattle. AMERICAN SOLDIER Track Listing 1. "Sliver" 2. "Unafraid" 3. "Hundred Mile Stare" 4. 10. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?i...ce=NFLHeadlines KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards was fired Friday. And former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan may be in line to replace him. Edwards was 15-34 in three seasons with the Chiefs, including 2-14 this season. He had one year remaining on his original four-year, $12 million contract. "On behalf of my family, I want to thank Herm for his service to the Chiefs," Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a team statement. "After careful deliberation over the last week, Scott and I decided that it was in the best interests of the Chiefs to move forward in a different direction. "This was not an easy decision. Herm is an outstanding football coach and a man of integrity. We appreciate his leadership over the past three seasons, and we wish him all the best in the future." The Chiefs have been in negotiations to land Shanahan as their next coach and a deal is near, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Edwards' status has been in doubt since the Chiefs hired Scott Pioli as their general manager on Jan. 13. Asked at his introductory news conference about Edwards' status, Pioli declined to say. "Since my arrival last week, Herm and I have had several conversations as part of my overall evaluation of the football operation," Pioli said in a statement. "After careful consideration, Clark and I felt that it was best to make a change. What I conveyed last week in the press conference I still believe to be true -- Herm is a great man and a tremendous football coach. He respects the game and the league, and he is passionate about his players and his craft. Chiefs season wrap-up "Over the course of this last week, I have also spent time meeting and visiting with most of the assistant coaches, and I will continue to do so over the next several days. All of the coaches from last year's staff, with the exception of one, are under contract through the 2009 season." Edwards was 41-44 in five seasons as head coach of the New York Jets, including three trips to the playoffs. Edwards came to Kansas City from the Jets and made the playoffs in his first season, when the team was 9-7. But he was under fire after the team finished 4-12 in 2007. Team management gave him its support, but expected a run at the playoffs. Instead, the team went 2-14. In Edwards' three seasons in Kansas City, only three teams had worse records: Detroit, Oakland and St. Louis. Prior to joining the Jets, Edwards spent five seasons serving as assistant head coach/defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, working under head coach Tony Dungy. Edwards served as a scout for Kansas City from '90-91 before joining Marty Schottenheimer's staff as defensive backs coach ('92-94).
  11. Good show; enjoyed the interaction between Swayze and his partner. The grizzled veteran showing the new guy the ropes... Other than his weight, you'd never know Swayze has advanced pancreatic cancer...

  13. Yep, last night's episode(s) were fantastic! I told the kids during Sunday night's episode that there was no way Tony had turned his back on everything that mattered to him, no matter how much he'd been through, and that he must be DEEP undercover... and sure enough!
  14. EDDIE VAN HALEN TO AUCTION A PAIR OF 1956 CHEVY CLASSICS AT BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE LOS ANGELES -- January 5, 2009 A pair of Chevrolet classics from the personal collection of rock ‘n’ roll icon Eddie Van Halen will be sold at No Reserve during the 38th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., Jan. 11-18, 2009. The 1956 Chevy 210 (Lot #1259) and 1956 Chevy Nomad (Lot #1259.1) will each be auctioned with matching, one-of-a-kind EVH Brand “Wolfgang” guitars and a pair of red, white, and black EVH striped sneakers. Hailed as “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™,” the Scottsdale auction and lifestyle event will feature a diverse mix of the world’s most desirable collector vehicles. SPEED will broadcast nearly 40 hours of live, high-definition coverage of all six auction days. “Rock ‘n’ roll and collector cars go hand in hand,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “And Eddie’s cars, although from the same year, represent the diversity of the collector car hobby. The Nomad is restored to original specifications while the 210 is a custom built street rod with modern performance gear. I expect these cars to enter special collections that salute both rock ‘n’ roll and automobiles.” The maroon 1956 Chevrolet 210 is a Pro Street hot rod built by customizer Jim Van Gordon. The car features a powerful 454 c.i.d. big block Chevy engine that pumps out more than 600 horsepower, making it suitable for the drag strip while still street legal. Additional highlights include a narrowed 9-inch Ford rear end with Detroit Locker, Mark Williams axles, 4.30 gears, 4-link coil-over suspension, disc brakes, and custom wheels and tires. Racing gauges and a dark grey color scheme underline the interior of the 210." Van Halen’s 1956 Chevrolet Nomad station wagon sports a classic “Cashmere Blue” and white paint scheme and was once part of the famed “The Harrah Collection” in Reno, Nev. The car underwent a frame-off restoration and features a 265 c.i.d., 210 horsepower “Power Pack” V8 engine, power steering and power brakes. An upgrade to disc brakes was added for improved stopping and safer driving." "Out of all the cars I have owned over the years, I hung onto the ‘56 Sedan and Nomad because I was closely involved in restoring and building them, so they are very special to me," explained Van Halen. "I almost hate to let them go, but I don’t have the time to drive them. It kills me to see them sit there when someone else could be driving them and have the pleasure and joy of owning these beautiful classic cars.” "Since they are so dear to me, I thought I would make it even more special by having two custom made Wolfgang guitars built to match each car,” Van Halen added. “I hope the new owners enjoy these cars as much as I have and keep the guitars and cars in their families for a long time, because they are all one-of-a-kind.” In 2007, Eddie, president of ELVH INC, partnered with Fender Musical Instrument Corporation to launch EVH Brand guitars, amps and musical products. A limited run of Van Halen FrankensteinTM replica guitars were introduced in addition to the EVH 5150III TM amplifier line and EVH guitar accessories. In January, Eddie will launch an all new Wolfgang guitar. More information on the EVH Brand is available at www.evhgear.com. The Van Halen cars and guitars will be joined by the world’s most desirable collector vehicles and automobilia to be sold at the historic Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction. Lifestyle attractions will also return to Barrett-Jackson in January in the form of luxury vendors, galas and fashion shows. Barrett-Jackson’s trendy night-spot, “The Garage,” will be the site of exclusive gatherings throughout the event.
  15. Well, Rockarma came out in 2007, even if it has a 2008 copyright... & it narrowly missed my Top 5 of 07 AAMOF.... http://www.heavyharmonies.com/cgi-bin/2007best.cgi#mike As for Bombay Black, love the band, and their first two discs were GREAT, but Psycho Magnet sounds like a bunch of leftovers that didn't quite make the cut for those 2 releases.

  20. I think it all boils down to your personal preference and needs. If you want to use the "I Own It" feature to keep track of your entire collection, (CDs, cassettes, vinyl, 8 track, real to reel, etc...) then I see no problem at all with that. The only thing it really affects is when someone else pulls up your collection; they will have no idea that everything they're viewing is NOT CDs. Same choice for the CD-R question too I suppose. If you wanna include CD-Rs to keep track of all the music you have, then that's a personal choice. I personally wouldn't include CD-Rs, but that's just me... So there ya go... it's all on you...
