Yea ok I agree, Unmasked is not Kiss's finest album,. not by a LONG shot.... But, it WAS the very first album I ever heard by Kiss, SO it's got a special place in My metal heart....*S*

If this album has anyplace in your heart than your heart really isn't that METAL. ;)

Man, I haven't slapped anybody today but I can feel it comin on :axe:

Let's keep in mind Wes, at least I am not jamming to Winger's brilliant album "IV" :P and you make fun of me bro? Unmasked is not my favorite Kiss album, but I do really like it. To be honest, I can't really say I totally dislike any of their albums though. Just a big 'ol Kiss fan I guess :P

Winger IV is much much heavier than Unmasked.

For the record I've never said I hated this album, it's just one of my least favorite Kiss albums, hell I even give a spin every once in a while.

They've released 18 studio albums and I love almost every single one of them but there are a few that I just don't like as much as the rest.

One more point: When was I making fun of you Jarred?

This is KISS' Worst record EVER...a Big Turd.....

You must have never heard Songs From the Elder....

Sure the Elder wasn't a great Kiss album but at least it had some "balls" to it.

Songs like "I", "Only You", "Dark Light", "The Oath", "Mr. Blackwell" and the killer instrumental "Escape from the Island" were all kick ass songs.

Me too. Actually the only good things about Dyansty and Unmasked was that Space Ace got to sing 6 songs between the two albums.

"I" is the only song that is memorable to me. I remember trying to give this one several listens when I first got it, and it never appealed to me. Don't know if I can force myself to listen again.....

  • 1 year later...
In all actuality this isn't really a KISS album...Peter doesn't play a

single thing on it, Paul plays most of the guitar except for the parts Bob

Kulick Plays..Ace plays only on His song(s)..Gene only sings...All Bass

was Paul or somebody else...The Book KISS Behind the Mask

is a Great way to find out who played what..It's like "The Dirt" in Many

ways...as the Band discusses every album and every track In great detail...

It is a great book. A friend told me about it and I grabbed it quickly.

The thing I enjoyed most, I'm actually reading it again right now, is the fact that it really is music based as opposed to just the band members lives. Half the time I end up disliking the group because I find out what a fuckhead someone was. Keeping with the music and stories surrounding the songs I find much more appealing.

I still chuckle whenever this thread gets bumped and I see UNMASKED referred to as a "Masterpiece"

A Master-piece of junk maybe. :P

I'm glad I was only 6 years old when this came out because if I would of been an actual fan of this band and heard this after the great stuff they did from 74-77, I would of been pissed. :taz:

    • So finally got around to listening to the album (still waiting for CD to arrive but at least a digital version came with the order). This is defo the best album he has released since leaving Skid Row, and is better than anything released by his former band (even the Erik fronted album). I liked his solo stuff, but he was always trying too hard to be modern and heavy, so there were very few actual stand out tracks. On here though it really is more of a throwback. While not quite classic Skid Row, it is probably as close as we will ever get, kinda sitting somewhere sonically between the first two albums. The only downside for me is the fact there is only one ballad and it doesn't even come close to the two that featured on Angel Down. Seb took a long break between this and his previous album, and I think in that time he has taken time to reevaluate what he wants to do musically. As stated earlier, even the album cover is a throwback with it being a painting his father started decades ago. Hopefully any future releases will stick to this style, and not return to the style used on his last few albums.
    • Not sure, but sounds like christian lyrics to me. And could'nt find it on HH yet. 25 years ago I would have loved this, today I'm atheist and do not listen anymore to such... explicit lyrics.
    • Spider of Destiny-Frank Zappa
    • I got it for free when I bought the Dirty Americans album. It's a cool little sampler.
    • Ha, I remember them. Good stuff.
    • Better than I expected, honestly, as GUN was never my thing.
    • Agree. Have been a fan of Halestorm and Lzzy....she's fantastic. That said though, this Skid Row thing just feels "off" to me.  She sounds fine but I think it's simply that hearing a female voice do the songs just doesn't seem right after listening to the originals for so long.   I much prefer hearing Lzzy in Halestorm.  I'd rather see her concentrate on that and also concentrate on doing new music that's more in line with their first 2 albums!
    • From memory it was recorded after the original pledge release of Beautiful things and was added as a bonus song when it became available to the general public.
