AI generated music… is this where we’re heading?

Was listening to To Be With You yesterday and for shits and giggles whacked the lyrics in and selected "hard rock" and then "reggae"

Here's what it spat out.

Made me realise that at the very least this is gonna act as inspiration for bands to create alternate versions of songs that vastly deviate from what they created.

That's a fun way to use it and yeah, your comments about this acting as inspiration are spot on.

It makes you wonder if this tool has been used for "inspiration" by the industry already.

Way before we all had access to it.

We are at a tipping point IMO, with respect to what AI can do for... or TO... our society.

As with many things, it can be a great timesaving tool... or it could literally destroy society as we know it (only slighly hyperbolic).

As the algorithms get better and better, and it becomes harder and harder to distinguish AI-generated from human-created, entire processes that were once manual could now be almost 100% automated.

We're already seeing the impact on music, art, pr0n, but the high-profile media-focused clickbaits are just the tip of the iceberg.

1. Entire industries could see mass layoffs as AI takes over major functions; cumulatively this could be disastrous.

2. We already have a hard time telling deep fakes from reality with respect to news fabrication and manipulation; it's poised to become even worse during election cycles... the term "fake news" was never more accurate.

3. Lawyers are chomping at the bit: the legal and ethical entanglements are ginormous. Copyright and intellectual property transgressions loom all over the place, not just in the arts. Schools, colleges, and universities are struggling with how to deal with AI "tools" when it comes to assignments, research papers, theses, and published articles. If you can prompt an AI tool to spit out a term paper for you and you just tweak it, have you actually done any research? Is being published actually proof of  accomplishment or intelligence anymore?

The biggest problem right now is the vetting of what any given AI tool spits out vs. trusting it blindly; we've seen this recently with some high-profile Google AI gaffs... this has the potential to be quite dangerous.

It may not actually be SkyNet 2.0, but there are aspects that are VERY concerning...

intelligent post as always. Agree 100%

Still waiting for your Suno attempt though 😉😂

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Whiplash, Geoff and Glen for bringing this site to my attention.

I love it.

The first track is a recent one of many I've done.

The second track is an Italian ballad for my friend's Mum about her family and she loved it. My lyrical description translated perfectly apparently.

You can do anything with this shit.

Nice one.

I'm only just starting to fiddle around with the prompts in brackets.

This is another "good vibe" track I did with a Killer Chorus. It cuts out at the end, but I've got the option to extend it, so I definitely will.

I'm finding that subject matter isn't easy to come up with, without repeating yourself, but I've got heaps of ideas.

A inspirational/motivational one I did with the addition of cello.

It's subtle, not too overwhelming.

Another great chorus.

I'm good with words, but the melody and cadence of the vocals and music is something I would never be able to come up with.

Here's the finished version with a guitar solo outro that doesn't end abruptly.

Awesome examples, guys. I love them all. Too bad one cannot download the tracks (only the one who created them). Probably due to copywright issues.:lol:

The legal terms and condition on SUNO are unbelievable.

As a paid subscriber, I wholly own the rights to the music, lyrics, melody, everything (in perpetuity).

I can post them on YouTube, Spotify, etc without having to cite the use of SUNO and even use them commercially.

If I decide to unsubscribe, I still retain all rights to anything I'd created whilst being subscribed.

I don't know if I can make them downloadable to others, but I would love it if someone wanted to download my stuff.

I do not think this will last for long. I heard some major labels are already sueing SUNO (or at least thinking about it) for using their "data" (read music) for training and creating plagiarism or imitating artists.

My comment about copywright was of course intended as a joke. But on second thought, it doesn't seem quite so far-fetched. Especially when you create songs using lyrics from copyrighted works (e.g. the hard rock or reggae version of To Be With You).

One of the conditions when signing up is that you don't use copyrighted material, so yeah, CTS's "To be with you" covers are a big no no.

Okay, so this is the first one I've done using entirely my own lyrics, delving deep into the cheesy part of my brain.

It's a bit clunky in parts, but I'm happy with it.

The chorus turned out well.

Another one with my own lyrics.

One thing I've learned about this is that as important as the lyrics are, it's all about the music and melody when it comes to songwriting.

I've decided that from now on I'm only gonna generate songs using 100% my lyrics and structure.

It's far more satisfying and gives me the sense that I've actually contributed to the track.

It's like me giving my lyrics to a band and saying "see what you can come up with".

This is my latest.

Very much a Power Ballad with cheesy, generic lyrics... just the way I like 'em.

I know these posts are a huge indulgence for me, but fuck it.

Absolutely 100%, cob. I have 247 song now, lol, all with my own lyrics. I personally wouldn't do it otherwise, as I need that personal connection, personally. Completely understand and appreciate anyone and everyone doing their own thing.

Nice tune... I'm guessing this one perhaps about your daughter and the other one about your wife? Pouring your heart out to the forum in form of song, cob. Nice.

This is my biggest problem with Suno... how it repeats "verse 2" often "pre-chorus" for me, without being prompted. Very frustrating if you have an otherwise killer track.

Haha, I like the "ear candy guitar riffs" prompt... not one I've used... yet, lol.
