Skillet - Legendary

Recommended Posts

Good single and true to the sound they've been going with the last few albums. Probably my second-favorite modern-day Christian rock band, after Disciple.

Another album by the numbers. I'm quite tired of their sound, but there's a couple of cool songs on the new album. 'Terrify the dark,' 'Reach' and the very christian 'Anchor' are my faves. Nice tunes;

I can only assume, after they were quite the talk of the town a few years back, that these guys are no longer relevant to folk here? Another new album this year, sounding exactly like all the others.

Surviving The Game (3:59)
Standing In The Storm (4:18)
Dominion (3:46)
Valley Of Death (4:27)
Beyond Incredible (3:31)
Destiny (4:02)
Refuge (3:28)
Shout Your Freedom (3:26)
Destroyer (3:43)
Forever Or The End (3:32)
Ignite (3:42)
White Horse (3:36)

I liked two songs from it, but as per usual, that's about where it ends-

Nothing bad on it, but just the usual.

They are very repetitive these days but I still enjoy their albums including the new one

beyond incredible , Dominion & Ignite probably being my favourites

They've found the niche/sound that works for them and has launched them into massive mainstream success. Some may call it "repetitive." Fans just call it "consistent." I understand both points of view. In Skillet's defense, they have experimented with (slightly) different sounds on a few songs the last couple of albums. "White Horse" off this new album is a good example, with its industrial/spoken word approach, and "This is the Kingdom" off their last album had a definite Imagine Dragons flair. But yeah, for the most part they just stick to catchy (and overproduced, if we're being honest) modern hard rock for the masses. I dig 'em, but I understand why people have started to turn on them.

Very few bands never have a use-by date. I admire Skillet but it's really not my thing. I think it would be cool if they did an Unplugged album just to give a different sound for a change, like what Tesla did.
