Can you copy and post lists on the forum?

This one's been a question of mine since the new format and it's time I address it. When I copy and paste from a spreadsheet, it looks like this;

1    .    Ted Poley     -    Modern Art 2    .    Station     -    More Than The Moon 3    .    No Sleep for Lucy     -    Until the End 4    .    Nitrate     -    Real World 5    .    Don Vedda     -    Hell of a Night 6    .    Self Deception     -    Self Deception 7    .    Imperium     -    Beyond the stars 8    .    W.E.T.     -    Earthrage 9    .    Gioeli, Castronovo     -    Set the World on Fire 10    .    Sapphire Eyes     -    Breath Of Ages

But how do I get it to look like this (after a sit here for 48min pressing Enter before every number);

1    .    Ted Poley     -    Modern Art

2    .    Station     -    More Than The Moon

3    .    No Sleep for Lucy     -    Until the End

4    .    Nitrate     -    Real World

5    .    Don Vedda     -    Hell of a Night

6    .    Self Deception     -    Self Deception

7    .    Imperium     -    Beyond the stars

8    .    W.E.T.     -    Earthrage

9    .    Gioeli, Castronovo     -    Set the World on Fire

10    .    Sapphire Eyes     -    Breath Of Ages

Geoff,

What are you using for your spreadsheet? Excel, Google Docs, or something else?

Testing a copy and paste from Excel...

Enrolled Room Capacity Day Quota
57 120
52 120
90 300
88 300
33 150
29 150
75 210
73 210
103 230
102 230
106 128
111 128
97 220
95 220
87 135

Seems to retain the table structure at my end.

How do you do this?! I also use Excel.

If I hit Cmd V (on the Mac) a pop up message comes up to tell me that what I am trying to copy is too large.

So I opt for Shift/Cmd/V (paste and match style) where it pastes in that first way in my post.

How did you do your one? Do you use a PC? Is it somehow a Mac thing?

Ctrl+c, Ctrl+v on the PC, but Cmd+c, Cmd+v on the Mac should work the same. How large of a spreadsheet are you truing to copy and paste? There might be a byte limit on what the board will accept as a paste.

Try just copying and pasting the top 10 or 20 entries and see if that works. If it does, then you might have to copy and paste in batches.

Yeah, so when I try the Cmd+v option I get the message 'You are only allowed to upload 10.24kb. And yep, just trying to copy and paste that top 10 list (for the sake of this experiment). So barely any more data than you copy and pasted above. Let me try just the top 5 entries.

Okay, so that's how it looks when I just copy and paste the top 5, which is still far less than ideal. I am just hoping to have it look like you did above.

Stupid thing is, I think I somehow did it when I posted my "Best Of 2017" list last year, but I haven't been able to do it since and can't for the heck of me think how I might have done that?

Hmm... I can post much larger amounts than that, and I don't see anything in group settings that would limit you. The normal file upload limit is many multiples of 10K. Perhaps paste is handled different from file upload, but I can't find it.

What about doing a screenshot of the spreadsheet and uploading that as an image?

And how the hell is Ted Poley #1????

different tastes I guess.

None of the songs do much me. Ted's voice does not fit Degreeds music in my opinion.

I'm with you. It's not awful by any means, but as you said, Ted singing Degreed-type music just doesn't sound "right".

Yeah, I could probably do that I guess... would love for it just to post like it did in your first post, lol. ;) Any other technically inclined folk have any reason why it's not working for me? Everyone else can posts lists normally?

Just even looking at my list compared to yours, Dan, when I entered after each line - is it even odd for me to have those spaces between each line like I do, when yours is just posted as a straight list with no spaces between lines?

Just did another test - posting list in Word and then trying from there - identical results. Could this be some cookie related thing or something?

When you manually add hard returns, it turns each line into a "paragraph" which adds extra space below the line.(s).

I'm afraid I'm not any help with respect to the differences between Mac and PC and the usage of clipboard data on one vs. the other. The last time I used a Mac was in 2005.

Cool, no worries. Out of curiosity, does any use a Mac and have this issue too? I just logged onto Safari to see if it might be different - nope. Same. Grrr. Very frustrating.

Just tested posting a list on another forum I frequent (a photography one - not music related) and it worked perfect. As it did on the old HH website. Is there some little tweak that's changed that I can alter somehow from the last site to now?

What software and version is that board running? There are a myriad of forum software packages out there (phpbb, mybb, vbulletin, etc.) and they're all different on how they handle uploads and attachments, plus they can all be configured differently.

Unless it's Invision Power Board v4.3.x, you can't really draw any conclusions.

Oh shit, how do I find that out? The website is ausphotography.net.au - don't know if you can tell from that, but that's beyond my realm of understanding. ;)

So when this board was updated to the new format, it was changed from the old one and now handles these lists differently? Or is it really somehow just me and something I'm doing here?

Okay, so it's definitely a Mac issue as I just jumped on my wife's PC and it works fine. Grrr. Why is Apple so f*cking difficult?!

    • Can think of many off the top of my head. Over the years there have been some. Radio her player Missing You and Drive non stop in the 80's 90's and I hated both, but then 10 years later I started to quite like them. Most songs I am not a fan of would be on the radio, so I flick stations. Sometimes my wife will play Hunters And Collectors, Paul Kelly, Boom Crash Opera or other bands like them I don't like and I force her to change it. And then sometimes she'll make me turn off Sixx AM, Robbie Williams or Jackyl, who for some weird fucking reason she doesn't like...
    • Sounds good. Side project of Vanden Plas. From Frontiers: Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of All My Shadows, a quintet founded in 2020 by Vanden Plas members Stephan Lill (guitarist) and Andy Kuntz (vocals). Their debut album, "Eerie Monsters" will be released on February 17, 2023. Stephan Lill is the guitarist and musical backbone of the internationally known progressive metal band Vanden Plas. From the very beginning, he has been a huge influence on the sound and musical development of the band with his songwriting. Outside of Vanden Plas, Lill has also left his mark with his involvement in the rock operas/theater productions "Ludus Danielis," "Christ 0," "The Chronicles of the Immortals," "Everyman," and "Last Paradise Lost". Andy Kuntz is the charismatic and talented singer of Vanden Plas. With his distinctive voice, he moves effortlessly through all levels of vocal register and has established himself internationally as not only a rock/metal singer, but also as a lead in multiple rock musicals and operas. As the main lyricist and writer of the vocal melodies for Vanden Plas, he is the other musical mainstay and partner in crime with Lill in not only the band, but the aforementioned rock operas.    "The idea of recording and releasing some rock songs is something I've been thinking about for a while. While composing, I kept coming up with songs that have the spirit of the '80s. As a big fan of bands from that era, like Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne, Dokken, and the like, I still have a huge love for music from that time. The goal was to transport that classic music into the here and now. Hard rock with a powerful production, peppered with modern musical elements," says Lill. The original idea for All My Shadows was to have different vocalists appear on the album. Lill brought in his musical partner Kuntz to write the lyrics for the songs. "We know each other inside and out, have been working together for a very long time and very well, and are a perfectly attuned team," he says. But once Kuntz was on board to write the lyrics and had demoed the first four songs with Lill, it was immediately clear to both musicians that Kuntz was the man for the job. "Why look far and away for several good singers, if the perfect singer is already there?" Lill muses.   While Lill and Kuntz continued to work on more songs, the aforementioned demos found their way to Frontiers Music Srl, Vanden Plas' current record label. Frontiers were also immediately enthusiastic about those demos and immediately and enthusiastically asked the band if they could be involved with releasing the music. With the songs coming along nicely, the creative juices flowing, and a label home in place, Lill and Kuntz knew that a completely new entity had to be created, which would give the whole thing its own vibe and aura. When Kuntz came up with the name ALL MY SHADOWS, the both knew that "the band name perfectly reflects the dark colorful aura of the lyrics."   Keyboardist Markus Teske, who is also the owner of Bazement Studios and has been turning the knobs on the mixing desk for all of Vanden Plas' albums since 2002, was brought on board first. Beside being a superb engineer, he is a virtuoso at his instrument too. Then followed Franky R., a bassist who has played with renowned guitarist Michael Schenker, among others. And to keep it in the family, Stephan's brother Andreas Lill, also of Vanden Plas and who has a tremendous reputation for his musical experience and skill set, was brought in on drums to complete the line-up. Lill and Kuntz unanimously answer with a clear "No!" whether the participation of the Vanden Plas musicians will bring All My Shadows too close sonically to Vanden Plas. Both musically and lyrically, the differences are too great, too tangible, too obvious."Vanden Plas stands very much for progressive metal in all its variations, while All My Shadows stands very much for melodic hard rock. Musical points of contact are there, overlaps are not. All My Shadows have all the characteristics to have their own identity," says Lill.   Tracklisting:1. Silent Waters2. A Boy Without A Name3. • Who sings this one, mate? There's an awesome band called Poison that sing a song called 'Every Rose Has It's Thorn.' Check that one out to see if you like it. Absolute hilarity.  Anyway, I don't know what my answer to this thread would be. It would be more directed to non-rock songs I am subjected to unwillingly.  Picking popular rock songs that are a bit of a drag to hear, I'd probably go with something from Bon Jovi, like 'Wanted Dead Or Alive.' I never liked that song, so every time I hear it it reminds me that I never liked it. 'Livin' on a prayer' wouldn't be far off, but the problem is I do like the song. Just a tad over-saturated in consumption, though.
    • No disrespect to Mr.AOR, or this thread with the title on this one. It's just a great track that fits the brief.
    • every rose has it's thorns.   I didn't add quotation marks or capital letters, such is my distain for this abomination.
