If you like the wimpy Queensryche it's tolerable, but for me, no.

No I don't like Wimpy 'Ryche, I like the EP to Empire. :headbanger:

My fave is Rage, then Mindcrime, then Warning, then Empire....The EP rocks but it's too short. I always get depressed when it ends so I try not to spin it too often

'American Soldier' was only released here in the UK this week (6th April in some stores) so I am waiting for my copy to drop through the letterbox. I am sort of looking forward to hearing it as I usually do any Queensryche album (I have only heard 2 tracks so far), but not half as much as some other stuff in the pipeline I must admit.

I could be wrong but I believe it was just their demo and was released officially after 'Rage for Order' with that new bounus track. So I don't think it was intended to be an official release originally but I could be wrong.

I could be wrong too but I am pretty sure it was released prior to Rage.

The original 4 songs were released in 1983 and then the 'Prophecy' tune was recorded during the Rage sessions and the EP was reissued with the bonus track in 1988.

You know what, and people can take the piss all they like here, I am on 3rd spin of this and I am quite enjoying some bits of it. Saying that, I did like some parts of 'Tribe', Q2K' & 'Hear In The Now Frontier', so maybe I am just a freak. ;)

I also liked many parts of Q2K, Tribe and Hear in the Now Frontier but now when I play those they just don't compare to those early releases. I think of the above mentioned cds Hear in the Now Frontier is probably my fav and then Q2K. As far as the new release goes I've heard it and didn't love it but I haven't bought it yet. I'm sure I'll get around to buying it eventually since I have all Queensryche studio albums but right now I'm not in a hurry. I will say I'm not a fan of the spoken word going on on the songs I heard.

I take every Queensryche disc on it own merit (or lack of in some cases). I really do agree with Shawn above, that virtually every album they have done is different to the next and some have worked better than others. With that being the case, you are always gonna have people siding with one release and not the next, as is the case with this one. I can see why people wouldn't particularly like 'American Soldier' and the last few releases, if they are hankering for the old days of 'Mindcrime' and 'Empire', but personally, because I do treat each one with maybe (and I mean maybe) a little more of an open mind than some other people, I might appreciate them a little more.

Not got into Tribe or Q2k yet but nothing wrong with Hear In The Now Frontier, I really like this one

Not heard Op Mincrime 2 or the new one yet!
