  1. Last night on Australian Idol one of the record exec judges called a constesatant an AOR artist and went on to explain that it meant 'Adult Oreinted Rock'.

Not that I care, but to me that makes more sense than 'Album Oreinted Rock'.

Really? I missed it last night but which person was it? Can you believe the blonde girl they took over from the UK didn't make it? Wowser. What is that shitty little 16 year old kid doing there? Or that really fat girl from the first day? There are a lot better people sitting on the sidelines than in the top 8. The long haired dude is good though - real good.

They said 'aor' about the Adelaide guy. On the ad he sings ina really high voice, but his actual voice is much lower than that.

That little 16 yo kid was shit. There were so much better than him. That'll teach them to let 13yo girls vote.

The dude with the beard is really good. Wednesday nights heat had enough talent to all go thru. All the pther heats have been pretty ordinary though. Al least it's not full of divas this year. It looks like thyey've purposely gone for different sounds this time cos the diva thing has failed for the winner in recent years.

  2. I gave this a try-out for about $3-4 in a secondspin order.... not too bad.

The first thing that strikes me is the length .... 15 tracks. I don't know why they made it this long. I think if they cut it down to 10 tracks they could have cut-out some of the filler and made it a really good disc. Not saying it bad, jsut coulda been better if they trimmed the fat.

  3. When submitting cds it asks for information on the bands (such as websites) if they are not already on the main site.

What's the deal when submitting more obscure stuff?

Bands from late 80's early 90's rarely have websites and some are damn near impossible to find any history or infomation on... yet are definitely suitable to this site.

For example, I just submitted some stuff by aussie bands such as Firepower, Gas, Eclipse - who are all 100% HH eligible but I cannot for the life of me find any online content on these bands. What happens there - will they be rejected, accpeted?

If there's no info out there to verify what style of music a band plays, nor any MP3s available online anywhere, I'll most likely ask you for an MP3 sample or two of the band before adding them to the database. Others who submit CDs on a regular basis will verify that this is normal; the submissions aren't just automatically rejected.

    Mike

No worries, cos I'm guessing that a lot of the aussie indies I've been submitting of late may be a little more on the obscure side (not obscure in style, but obscure as in not commonly known).

If you need any samples, style comments on these, just let me know.

  5. GnR -AFD

Don't get much better than that.

Yeah.... "Gunther and Radovan - Apples Form Detroit" is one of my all time favourites aswell.

I thought Metal T and I were the only ones that owned that rare album.

What... !!! You mean that Staryder doesn't have it? Out of teh 10,000,000 albums he has... he doesn't have Radovan and Gunther! :crying:

  6. Back to topic.... so I wonder if Joel is gonna post that track

    Topic? What topic?

Oh yeah, Joel got his song stolen from Jon and Richie.

Yup that'd be nice if he did post it for the fans to see how close it does sound to what Jovi did.

I think he has to record it first... ;)

I'm sure he has it somewhere on an old Maxell 90 minute cassette.

Apparently TDk had "the amazing difference"

  7. atleast Bon Jovi's CDs all sound different! country or not, they havent been playing the same, galloping riffs for the last 30 years.

But Maiden invented that sound so they can play it all they want.

And all of Maiden albums don't sound the same. Listen to them all and get back to me.

    all the singles do though...

"Aces High" sounds like "Run to the Hills"? In what universe?

"Can I Play with Madness" sounds like "Wicker Man"? I don't think so.

Yes some of their songs do sound similar but that's why they call it a "Signature Sound".

maybe, i call it cashing in on what worked to make more hits, reusing the same old formula...

still, im theone that lieks Lost Highway because it sounds so different to their earlier stuff....so ill always take diversity over signature sound personally...

Cashing in? You do realise that Iron Maiden has never had a real hit single, well at least outside of the UK.

Besides "Run to Hills", which is the only song that radio ever plays, Maiden has hardly had any radio play in the US. All of their videos were only played on Headbangers Ball back in the day and not during daylight hours.

But they still sold gold and platinum in the US because of how awesome they are live, which is what makes a great band a great band. And for the record Maiden has never written or recorded an album in Nashville.

Even Pantera went country at one stage didn't they... with Cowboys From Hell

  8. Went on a spending spree this weekend and picked up these:

    Lessdress - Dumblondes

  9. i was called a sellout on here for wanting to do covers, but if you want to make money from music you have to take whatever gig there is right?

if you are referring to my earlier comments, once agin you have got it completely wrong.

I never said you were a sell-out for wanting to do covers.... I said that if you are comparing someone wanting to do originals and someone wanting to do covers then in my opinion the 'wannabe' is the person doing covers.

the whole point I was trying to get across was in regards to your comments about people wanting to do originals are wannabe rockstars.

your post trashed people that didn't want to play in your cover band. in my opinion I have more respect for those people wanting to persue their originals. By all means, do all the covers you want... but trashing someone else becasue they want to do originals just makes you look completely arrogant and ignorant.

believe it or not... the world is not against you. to me it seems that YOU want to believe that it is, and want to recruit others into your battle.

  10. step 1... get a job that will keep the $$$'s coming in - whether it be at mcdonalds or as an erotic dancer

step 2... practice your guitar between shifts at mcdonalds (or erotic dancing venue)

step 3... once your music career takes off you can pass on your shifts at mcdonalds and focus purely on your music

there has to be stepping stone... you won't step staight into a career in music ... it's reality.

  11. Motley Crue - SOLA

I expected a bit of this one after hearing opinions from other folk and I think it is some of their best material for quite a while. There were 1-or-2 songs that didn't do much for me but then there are some killer tracks like the one about the Whiskey.

Def Leppard - Songs from the Sparkle Lounge

This one surprised me,... maybe cos my epxectations weren't that high. Their last few efforts have disappointed me abit, but not this time. The impression I got from reviews from others was that this was a very mellow record. I thought most tracks actaully rocked. Maybe what appeals to me is that apart from 1 song (that sounds like queen-like) the tracks are streiahgt forward rock... compred to the last few years where they tried to experiment and failed. One bit that annoyed me was the song that seemd to be five minutes of Cmon Cmon Cmon Baby Cmnon Baby Baby CMon Baby Yeah Cmon Cmon Cmon Baby Cmnon Baby Baby CMon Baby Yeah ... I'm guesisng it's called Cmon.

  12. Ive had both of these... sold both.

I actually prefer the Ep you have. The album isnt as good. They went on to become Nobodys Fool.

Cool, I'd not heard of Nobody's Fool before. Just checked them out on MySpace - pretty good Hard Rock/Glam. Apparantly they released a third album in 2006. Heres a video for their song

on YouTube. 'Forever' is a great song as well, I just heard that on their MySpace site.

NF have now had 5 releases..though they just keep sticking the same songs on them.. even some of the "Strange Behaviour" tracks appear on early NF albums...

once again i had alot of NF stuff but got rid of it..

Man I would've kept them. I always seem to have a soft spot for Aussie bands of this type (Melodic Rock/Hard Rock). Even if I don't really like their music eg. Hell City Glamours; I tend to respect them because they represent Australia in the genres that I love. Just watched a video of them covering the "Steel Dragon" song 'We All Die Young' from the Rock Star movie. Very cool.

Just get in touch with the band, they should have copies of most of their releases still pretty cheap. Just google them.

they have s/t (2006), 2003 demo ep, and Send me an Angel still availalbe

st and 2002 are silver pressed.

send me an angel is a 3"cdr in longpack

  13. Hi Everyone!

I just found out about the issues with these CDs. We were under the impression they were silver pressed, as they needed a Glass Master CD to start production. Well after Brian emailed this week I investigated the matter. I was rather upset as well. We tried the re-issues to see if there was still an interest in our music and the response has been outstanding!

Here's the response I got from our manufacturer:

"To get Replicated glass mastered CD with most manufacturers you have to get 1,000 units made.

The media used for short runs is a CDR which is virtually indistinguishable from stamped media in color and appearance on the writable surface. The printed side has high resolution printing with a waterproof coating which will stand the test of time.

These are a unique type of CD that are made using a proprietary system.

I have never heard of one of the unopened CDs being scratched."

We did not start out with 1000 of each with this run, but we fully intend to when we order more after Rocklahoma. We have everything tied up financially right now, in the show. Although we did not have to Pay to Play as many other bands did, we do have to cover all of our own expenses. So, we won't be ordering again until we can recoup what we're spending now.

To clarify, these are Silver CDRs, not silver pressed. They are of a higher quality than the typical CDR though, as others have noted. We will continue to sell them until they are gone, as we need the gas money. We have two tour buses, gas and our crew to pay for yet for the festival.

We do intend to have silver pressed CDs by the end of the summer, though. I'll be sure to drop by here and let you know when we get them in.

Again, I sincerely apologize for any issues you may have had with these re-issues. Personally I can't tell the difference, as they are silver, not green or blue. I'm not sure where the one poster is seeing green unless it is a reflection. The quality of the sound is much improved from our original releases. The digital remastering went a long way in bringing out more of our sound. I've been happy listening to my own copies as I've been practicing.

As for Tommy's email - he wasn't lieing, he was just stating what I had told him and I had believed. We stand corrected and humbled.

Thanks so much for bringing this issue to our attention! Our fans keep us going and it's great to see you so excited to hear us again. It makes it all worth it.

Oh btw, that's me selling the $14.99 versions on eBay with free shipping.

I read somewhere that you guys are reissuing "Take Em by Storm" and "Crying in the Night" on some other label in February.

    Is this true?

If so will the 3 cds still be silver pressed in August and sold on your website?

Still no repsonse from Banshee about this.

I really want these cds but I'm not gonna buy them if their cdrs.

    they are cdrs.

they said if they re-press they will be silver... but i'd say this will only happen if sales are good enough.
