  1. Love and war would be up there for me. Can't wait to dissect this and thanks for the brutal metal reference nighttrain. 89 at a glance seems better than 88 and 87. Let's see 86, 85 etc. Some of my favourites are from the mid-early 80s before the labels started taking over and making everything samey.
  2. @ Geoff..... Fancy that, a couple of Eclipse tracks sticking out on a modern rock compilation

  4. There's never a definite list so it's all cool. I don't have my collection properly documented so I'll use yours to see how many classics there are that year!
  5. We should keep workshopping the perfect ratings system until Geoff gets to V or so
  6. Star Wars Episode 1. Exactly as I remembered. A big pile of badly cast, directed, idiotic dialog, could go on forever. Not to mention way too much cg. As promised to the missus I have to somehow get through 2 and 3 as well as 4-6 which have all been tarnished.
  7. That seems like a high score for an album of 12 tracks with only 2 being awesome. What's your definition of a filler? What does a filler rate out of 10? Obviously this is all subjective but looking at that info I couldn't imagine the album rating more than 40-50% based on the number of fillers.
  8. Love her! Speaking of which I did like that movie too and it was only her voice... So saw Lucy and boy, not my cup of tea AT ALL. Highly un-recommendable. Agreed, was looking forward to it but was a bit of a stinker!
  9. Agreed. From momory they took over from jazzloft. I think it is a one man operation, run on the side. Obviously there's not much money in this nowadays. His response to emails was almost immediate and the shipping package of my order was perfect.
  10. I ended up buying cd sleeves from here about a year or so ago when the aussie dollar was very high against the US dollar so the price was pretty good. I have been impressed by them. Not sure what the dvd sleeves are like. http://www.spacesavingsleeves.com
  11. I love reviewing cds but it come down to time. Also, I haven't settled on a system. As much as I like how most of you guys do it there's some stuff I need to be thrown into the mix such as - production/sound, x factor/vibe, performance, importance (to scene, band growth etc) and so on. I find that I'm an album guy and if I just rated the songs it wouldn't give an indication of my best albums. For example, I'm sure Slippery When Wet would rate high for me as individually there are some great songs. 7800 on the other hand doesn't have as monstrous songs, but I love the vibe, the style of songwriting/keys etc. and generally play it more often than slippery. So if i did a side by side of track ratings slippery would win, but for me 7800 us a better album.
  12. Zzzzz snoozefest. Completely underwhelming and boring. This band has lost their way since Tarja's departure. They now sound like one of the pack in this genre rather than being one of the leaders. So disappointing for me but it's been on this slide for a while so I guess it's no surprise.
  13. Yeah, I don't mind a bit of big cock. How did you rate those 3?
  14. Lol, I find it hard to make any ratings of a cd until it's like 6 months old. It's like dating. You always rate higher coz things are new and exciting, the smell, the unsmudged cover, pristine cd with no marks. It's just you and her. You crank it up and spin and spin each time she's whispering something new. One night turns into a weekend, then a week.... then something happens as it does with most men, you feel like something else. Soon there's another cd next to the cd player, and another, then a pile. You need to rate her when she's buried amongst all the others you've been with and not after that first night together!
  15. This band is totally hit or miss with me. Have some great songs and a lot of duds and not one cd that I love. Not sure what I think about these tracks.
  16. Cmon Geoff.... this is hard rock from bologna! What I want to know is why that guy blew up a chicken with his magic powers and why are the others so happy about it?
  17. I'll be picking g it up coz it IS theatrical and about dracula! Something different every once in a while is good.
  18. The Japanese release has all 3 of these cds in one package.
  19. The Japanese release is out, mine is on its way. Not sure when the euro release is.
  20. What if the all female Ghostbusters movie was rated R with genuine scares, gore and sex? Maybe in another universe
  21. I think this is the trend to be honest. Cds aren't selling as much and as a result no one, especially the older ones have stores that want to stock them. It's just going to get worse. In Australia I've pretty much given up trying to grab some semi decent stuff at places that used to have them. Shame as I really miss the hunt!
  22. I used to be that way too Geoff, hated accents on singers. Then I let the love in. Most of my favourite bands are Japanese or South American. Hey I even love foreign movies more than English speaking ones.
  23. No doubt given the taste of music were into most of us are no longer in our teens or twenties. That said are there any favourite albums from back in the day that you just can't put on anymore? For me personally there's been a trend. A lot of the hard rock in the 80s was blues inspired hard rock. I can't stand that anymore. With that said here are a few bands and albums that I used to play all the time but can't stomach anymore (but have kept them anyway for the memories) : Salty Dog Aerosmith Tangier Etc Funnily enough I still love Badlands, Spread Eagle, Gunners (Appetite). Another example is Bon Jovi. Much prefer the style of playing Sambora did prior to wanted dead or alive, after that they lost something for me even tho I've enjoyed a few of the albums in the 90s.
