  1. My review of one of the more anticipated comeback albums of 2012, Trixer's "New Audio Machine," is now available over at Hardrock Haven. Click the link below to check it out: Trixter review Pretty solid stuff mixed with some filler, but definitely not the classic we all hoped for.
  2. There's the cantankerous Tim we know and love. Looks like the Apocalypse has been averted...
  3. Careful, Tim--you totally agreeing with one of my reviews is one of the signs of the Apocalypse. But you're right, this is really good. The modern hard rock fans on these boards should really be checking this out.
  4. Actually, all the band members are between 17-19 years old, so yeah, they're not exactly dinosaurs. I was chatting with them today...should be receiving the promo to review sometime next week.
  5. German melodic rockers Wild Frontier have returned after a 5 year hiatus with a new album simply titled "2012." You can check out my review over at Hardrock Haven by clicking the link below: Wild Frontier review Very nice album...welcome back, boys!! Upcoming reviews include: Trixter: "New Audio Machine" Teenage Casket Company: "Best Kept Secret" Kissin' Dynamite: "Money, Sex & Power" Juliet's Vice: s/t Fall From Grace: "The Romance Years" Modern Day Escape: "Under the Gun" Memory of a Melody: "Things That Make You Scream" Black Oxygen: "The American Dream"
  6. I'm sorry, I just can't imagine that rat bastard owning anything that requires drycleaning. I can't imagine him owning clothes, period. Based on this lascivious rantings, I just assumed he ran around nude all the time. Did you edit my spelling of "ratt bastard?" Maybe. But no. But apparently...yes.

  8. Hey, is now a good time to tell you that in addition to the download I received to review this album, the band also sent me an autographed copy of the CD for free? Showed up in the mail unexpectedly today. But yeah, all rubbing-it-in aside, this is a damn good album and hopefully some label will wise up soon and make this available at a reasonable price.
  9. God, I hate what they did with the ballads. Talk about a momentum killer. It doesn't help that the ballads aren't that great, in my opinion. But like I said in the review, I think that is the only glaring flaw on an otherwise great album. And I can tell you why I'm not listening to the deluxe version: because the label only provided the regular version to the press. I do plan on digging up those bonus tracks though.
  10. Actually, if you go here you can read their story. After I wrote that piece, the band decided they didn't want their bio in the CD booklet for some reason, but we made it available on the website. Awesome. Thanks, mate. I just bought Murder Bay and Rattleshake too, so your sexy words better grace those pages. Well, they "grace" (and I use that term loosely) the Rattleshake CD, but not Murder Bay. My choice. I simply didn't have the time at that point. I just bought those new ones too and was hoping to read your write ups. You always do such a great job! Thank you, kind sir. Hope you enjoy the Rattleshake bio.
  11. While I haven't gotten around to actually doing it yet, I plan on using this program to dump the "cheapies" I have sitting in my closet, the stuff that even when I offer it for free, nobody wants. For example, the last time I posted a sale list here, nobody wanted Papa Roach or Kid Rock, even for free, but I can trade 'em in for a buck or two. Same goes for the pile of DVDs I have. In other words, I don't think this program is valuable for actually making a profit or getting rid of anything other than common titles, but it seems like an easy way to clean some "junk" and make a few dollars to spend on Amazon.
  12. Ain't no sophomore slump here! My review of Halestorm: "The Strange Case Of..." is now available over at Hardrock Haven. Click the link below to check it out: Halestorm review Good album that cements Lzzy's status as a rock goddess. If only they hadn't put three balads back to back to back right in the middle...

  15. I don't smoke. Not crack, not tobacco, not meat-poles. And yes, I think Axl Rose is a good vocalist. He has a great voice for the sleazy, street-swaggering hard rock GNR cranked out back in the day. No cynicsm, no sarcasm--Axl is a good singer within the framework of the rock/metal genre, and he brought a unique, distinctive edge that precious few of his contemporaries could at the time. Would he sound as good belting out sultry AOR? Probably not. But if you told me I could have Axl Rose or Michael Bolton come to my house to play a concert on my birthday, I'll pick Rose over Bolton 10 times out of 10. "Chinese Democracy" might have been a debacle, but it wasn't because of Axl's singing (other than when he electronically altered it). You're entitled to your opinion, friend, but I could just as easily ask you if you've been smoking crack by NOT liking Axl's singing.
  16. My review of Canadian modern hard rockers The Veer Union's new album, "Divide the Blackened Sky," is now available over at Hardrock Haven. Click the link below to check it out: The Veer Union review I was pleasantly surprised to find this to be one of the best modern hard rock/metal albums of the year. Anyone who enjoys Nickelback, Shinedown, Rev Theory, etc. should give these guys a listen.
  17. My review of up-and-coming modern hard rock/metal band Janus' new album, "Nox Aeris," is now available over at Hardrock Haven. Click the link below to check it ou: Janus review Kind of a Chevelle-meets-Red-meets-Breaking Benjamin kind of hybrid vibe. Upcoming reviews: Trixter: "New Audio Machine" Wild Frontier: "2012" Fall From Grace: "The Romance Years" The Veer Union: "Divide the Blackened Sky" Modern Day Escape: "Under the Gun" Memory of a Melody: "Things That Make You Scream" Juliet's Vice: s/t Black Oxygen: "The American Dream"
  18. Yeah, this is one of those albums that despite my dislike of it, I can certainly understand others taking a shine to. I'm certainly not one of those elite, snobby reviewers who think my opinion is the end all-be all. It's my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. So I hope you like it better than I did; hell, I hope EVERYONE likes it better than I did, because as I mentioned at the end of my review, this is a good band with tons of talent...I just didn't like this album.
  19. Well, keep in mind that a review is just one person's opinion. Glance around the Internet and you'll see this album is getting all sorts of lavish praise, so apparently plenty of people like it. I'm just not one of those people.
  20. My review of UK-based heavy rockers Furyon's new album ("Gravitas") is now available over at Hardrock Haven. Click the link below to check it out: Furyon review To be blunt, an infuriating album, with a couple of killer songs surrounded by a whole bunch of failed potential.
  21. Good luck, my friend. Being in debt is hard enough. Being in debt and also being in excrutiating pain is just hellish. Hopefully this surgery will at least alleviate most if not all of the pain.
  22. My review of Arizona-based modern heavy metal band Back From Ashes' new album, "261", is now available over at Hardrock Haven. Click the link below to check it out: Back From Ashes review Probably limited appeal to the Heavy Harmonies community, but those who don't mind the modern heavy metal sound might want to give 'em a go.
  23. Didn't know about this??? According to John's quotes on his website, he wanted to do a rock album rather than the softer stuff he's been dabbling in. He claims it will be similar to "Shake," his first solo effort, and I found one early review that stated it sounded a lot like early '90s Petra. Color me interested. Yeah, he's definitely adamant about it being a "rocker." But, in all honesty, he's got such an incredible voice, I'll take anything he does. He does have a great voice--one of my favorites in the Christian rock realm--but I just don't think it works as well on the softer stuff. If this new solo album does indeed sound like early '90s Petra, I'll be a happy camper.
  24. I agree with you wholeheartedly. If I could afford to buy a couple of CDs this week, then I can certainly afford to help out a friend in need. We talk about being a family here at Heavy Harmonies; here's hoping those who can afford to do so will prove that "family" is more than just a word.
