  1. As Z Rock 09 looms ever closer I thought it wise to bring you all up to date. So far we are on schedule with everything but obviously we have concerns re the economic situation here in the UK. The next 6 weeks are very important, we know that we have to sell 100 tickets for the 30th and 50 for the 29th to keep everything inline. Whilst we know many of you maybe finding times a little harder than back in 2008, we hope that those wishing to attend purchase their tickets before March 22nd. It helps us if you buy direct by either using the paypal address zrockagency@zrecords.net or buying form the sites below. If you prefer to send a cheque please email or call and we will send the details to you. Z Rock 09 is our strongest line up to date and our 10th anniversary show, who would believe that it's 10 years since out first outing. Plans are already being made for 2010 but that all depends on the outcome of May show. Just a reminder of the excellent line up that we have..... MAY 29TH: [tickets £30.00] WIG WAM TONY HARNELL further acts to be announce shortly MAY 30TH: [Tickets £47.50] JOHN WAITE [the voice of Bad English, the Babys and solo] BIG NOIZE [feat Joe Lyn Turner ] VON GROOVE EDEN NEWMAN LEC ZORN ANGELHOUSE Venue : JB's Dudley Your support is greatly appreciated especially during the current climate, lets make Z Rock 09 something to look forward to this year ) Those of you living abroad will soon receive a letter which you need to collect your tickets at the venue, we are about to start mailing all other purchased tickets next week. 2. Looks interesting. I kinda like Flashpoint on CBS during the same slot though. I see a DVR in my future...
  3. Check out this vid: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoid=48752739 44 minutes long from their album release party... back when they held these kinds of events. Any of their stuff ever make it to CD? The lead vocalist sounds like he has a set of pipes.
  4. How do you separate the two? At the sleaziest end of glam, both the look and sound are VERY similar to punk music. How do you define the difference? The reason I ask, is that I'm considering adding the CD below to HH, but am wondering if it's out of bounds. Would you include this CD here? I've included 2 samples below. Most of the songs sound like sample #1, but then #2 is straight ahead bar rock. All Night Long Thank God for Jack Daniels P.S. Nice album cover!
  5. If people are getting purchase/trade inquiries from 0-post members and you think they're dodgy (i.e., it's not in reference to a CD you discussed openly on the board), please forward the PMs to me or one of the other moderators. Otherwise, if someone is making a concerted effort to spam or scam members there's no way to know how many people are being hit. Thanks, -Dan
  6. These were common as dirt at one point...
  7. Now I find that amazing!!! You live so close and go all over northern Illinois and Indiana on your hunts and yet, haven't driven 50-75 miles over to Peoria.....?????? Just one of those things I never got around to doing. When I was active my route was large enough that I didn't need to add another area, and then I got out of the hunt. -Dan
  8. Ergf. Considering I've never been to Peoria and don't recognize the landmarks you're referring to, that might be tough. Do any of the listings or map points in the link below ring a bell? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&clie...=1&ct=image Thanks, -Dan
  9. Yup. Actually what is listed at CD Baby is the 6-track EP. Five of the six tracks are from the forthcoming "Eurameric" CD. I'll be adding Eurameric to the site tonight. Personally I prefer the tracks with Ralf Scheepers singing to those with Pamela Moore, but to each their own... -Dan
  10. Interesting. I would have thought the vocal style would be a no-brainer for the local metalheads... gunna wait for more folks to chime in. -Dan
  11. The only things I'm seeing in the yellow pages for Peoria or East Peoria are a few Co-Op Records, a few Muzak, and "Younger Than Today"... was it a chain store or independent? Thanks, -Dan
  12. I don't have a problem with these, and I've never had a big issue with bands/labels releasing their own material as CDRs, as long as the printing/packaging quality is good. My biggest problem has been with entities "reissuing" material that originally WAS silver pressed, now as CDRs, but not telling people what they're getting. You end up with people bidding/buying on the assumption that they are receiving the former, and they end up with the latter. "Bait and switch" as it were. -Dan P.S. No model credits on the Slam Alley artwork...
  13. Well I got my shipment from Demon Doll Records today. On the issue of silver pressed versus CD-R, I'm kinda scratching my head a bit. It's been several years since I've been actively involved in CDR trading, so I've missed the most recent advances in CDR media. Back then, the so-called "silver bottom" (or diamond) CDR media, while being predominantly silver, still had a pale green hue to them. They could be told from true silver pressed discs. Has that changed? Is there now burnable media that is a TRUE silver in color? The other giveaway was usually a lot number in black on the inner ring of the disc. Still the case? Here are the discs I bought: Rockets to Ruin - Love * Drugs * Rebellion. This one is a CD-R and was revealed as such by the label, as that is how the band had them done. Black lot number on inner ring and the disc bottom has a pale green hue. Alleycat Scratch - Cheap City Thrills. This one has a black lot number in the inner ring, but the bottom is a true silver color. Alleycat Scratch - Encore. CD does NOT have a lot number on the inner ring and the bottom is a true silver in color. DVD is a burned DVD-R (label said as much). Decadent Daughters - Black & Blue. No lot number, true silver bottom. Slam Alley - 21 Fire. No lot number, true silver bottom. Pretty Wild - All the Way. No lot number, true silver bottom. All of the discs have the printing on the disc itself (no labels), and under magnification they appear to be 4-color silk-screen printed. All the discs were polywrapped. Bottom line: if they're CDRs, other than the first one it's not glaringly apparent...
  14. This one had me dyin'!!! He is my hero. Seriously.
  15. Courtesy of their inventory clearance sale. Moahni Moahna - Face the Light single/EP from 1992. The first material they released. May have been used as a promo as the guitarist's name, address, and phone number are written on the front cover. Ladies Room - Rhythm Crush EP from 1994 (Japan). Neat item in that the slipcase has cuts and perforations on the back to make the CD/slipcase stand up for display. Also includes a scarf/banner (still sealed). Slipcase: CD: Banner:
  16. That's cuz they're used to seeing you in a dress, and you usually don't have to announce it... -Dan
  17. Just ordered me a "Heart Attack" pizza from one of our local joints. Sausage, pepperoni, bacon, and Italian beef. (Yes, Italian beef on a pizza... don't knock it until you try it). *BURRRRRRRP* S'cuse me...
  18. Blistering Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of U.S. hard rock legends LILLIAN AXE. Derrick, Eric, Ken, Sam & Steve are so excited about joining the Blistering Records roster of artists and look forward to a long, successful venture recording their music for the label. While searching for a new label over the past year, Lillian Axe was looking for a record company who respected their past, but more importantly wanted the band to be part of their present and future. Blistering Records proved to be the most aggressive suitor for Lillian Axe making the decision an easy one. The Axe men were equally thrilled to become the flagship artist with this fast rising international company who already boasts releases from melodic rock heroes like Joe Lynn Turner, Glenn Hughes, Jorn & House Of Lords! Lillian Axe, having re-established themselves in 2007 & 2008, look forward to 2009 as the year of The Axe! They will embark on a world tour this June in support of their new CD, Sad Day On Planet Earth. The ambitious 12 month trek will take them across the United States, Canada, Europe & Japan. Every city & every festival that wants Lillian Axe shall have them! Although, Lillian Axe never forgets its glorious past, their sound is very modern. Musically speaking, Sad Day On Planet Earth is by far their strongest album. With a rare balance of continuity & variety showcasing their veteran song writing chops, radio formats from Active to Mainstream & Loud Rock will find something to love on this amazing record. Fourteen tracks of pure Lillian Axe to rock the music world out of it's collective slumber! The songs that will be appearing on Sad Day On Planet Earth were written by main Axe man Steve Blaze & include: Megaslowfade, Ignite, Divine, Down Below The Ocean, Jesus Wept, Within Your Reach, Sad Day On Planet Earth, Fire Blood The Earth & Sea, The Grand Scale Of Finality, Cold Day In Hell, Blood Raining Down On Her Wings, Hibernate, Kill Me Again & Nocturnal Symphony. The album artwork is being created by Peter Tsakiris, a major force in the industry who has created covers for Dio, Twisted Sister, Deep Purple, Ted Nugent, Overkill, Jackyl & Warrior Soul to name a few! Lillian Axe sends heartfelt thanks the rock music community for the opportunity to continue making the music they have believed in their entire career & look forward to doing so for many years to come! Keep an eye out for more news on Lillian Axe as we get closer to the birth of Sad Day On Planet Earth. http://www.lillianaxe.com http://www.myspace.com/lillianaxe http://www.blisteringrecords.se
  19. Please do. I'm horribly disorganized at the moment, but one of my goals for 2009 is to get my CD Singles Database caught up. I've got about 500 or more that I don't have entered. It's in my own best interests to do so, as that's the list I check out on the road to make sure I don't double-buy... which of course I do. I'll have a hundred or two dupes for trading as well... once I get organized. Ergf. -Dan
  20. Egads, it's been a while. Got up this morning and really didn't file like spending another day sitting in front of the computer, so I figured that now that gasoline is no longer four fucking bucks a gallon, that I could just go out on a spontaneous scrounging mission. But where to go? The pickings locally have been horrid the last few years (as I mentioned in the other thread), and I've really backed off on my CD collection other than CD singles. So it's off to a place that I know will have plenty of CD singles: JL Records in Lafayette, IN. It's only about an hour and a half drive, which is a yawner. I was there, scrounged, and back, in about 6 hours. Even though I looked for full-length stuff to sell on eBay, the pickings were slim. Yes, there was plenty of stuff, but the prices were so high that there was no chance for me to turn any profit whatsoever. I did find one item for resale, though. A nice still sealed copy of Harlequin - Love Crimes, Japanese pressing. There are 3 on eBay, all above $80 asking price, and a used one just went for $49 shipped. If anyone here wants this sealed one, $60 shipped in the U.S. I found a boatload of singles for my collection. Not cheap by any means, as most were in the $7-12 range, but there's some neat stuff throughout. Random comments: The HIM singles were a nice find, as a couple of them routinely sell in the $20-30 range. The Mike and the Mechanics photo wallet single is kinda cool. I always enjoy finding 3-inch singles (Micahel Bolton & Cinderella this time around). You don't see singles by The 69 Eyes every day either. The shaped Deep Purple single is a neat item. Aqua is a guilty pleasure of mine. I wish they had done more than 2 albums... Here they are in quasi-alphabetical order.
  21. The pickings aren't anywhere near what they used to be. Some of you may recall that I used to do a feature on my personal web site and on several mailing lists (and here on the board for a while) called "The Scrounger's Report". I used to go out several times a month, monthly at the minimum, and hit all of the towns in Central Illinois, along with a few spots in Indiana. It got to the point that the turnover was getting extremely poor, no new influx of material from our genres; all I was seeing was rap, r&b, and country. That, combined with the soaring price of gasoline, pretty much kept me grounded. Store closings haven't helped either. Also, I've kind of gotten away from hardcore CD collecting. In fact, I'm planning to sell off more material from my collection. The one area where I'm still going fairly strong is my CD singles collection. There's enough "off-the-beaten-path" material out there to hold my interest. Any more though, given the letdown I tend to experience from spending a day going around, only to find virtually NOTHING, I tend to just hit eBay and be done with it. *sigh* Let me see if I can throw out a few shops that I used to hit, in case anyone here in the midwest feels like hitting them (since I'm not any more). Champaign-Urbana. Dead as a doornail. There isn't even a CD store in the mall any more. There is a very small new/used CD store in downtown Champaign named "Exile on Main Street" that I hit every few months and I find some interesting CD singles periodically. Not worth a special trip though. Danville. Chart Records is about it. They still might have some NOS in longboxes, but they had discovered eBay as of a few years ago, so the pickings are slim. On the same street (Vermilion) that they are on are a few pawn shops with poor pickings and a Used-CD Exchange with stagnant inventory and ridiculous pricing. Charleston/Mattoon. The really good pawn shops I used to frequent there have closed. 4th Street Records occasionally has a few discs, but they cater to the liberal artsy-fartsy crowd and are more of a head shop. Tuscola. Music for a Song has really gone downhill. They used to have GREAT import bins where I found bunches of sealed Japanese imports for $3-10 each. *sigh* Decatur. As mentioned earlier in this thread, G-Bs is the place to go. Stagnant inventory with respect to collectible material, but if you're looking for recent rock and metal, they get a lot of turnover. If you read my Scrounger's Reports, when I first discovered them I went nuts and found BUNCHES of neat stuff. Springfield. Recycled Records is the place to go. Combination of new and used CDs and shitty furniture. HUGE selection of vinyl if you're into that. I still try to get there once a year, as I do find some off-the-wall stuff on occasion. They usually have a sale all Febuary long, so I may head there next month. Kankakee. Pawn shops have closed, but Bed Smart/Record Bar is still worth a visit off Exit 315. Another combination CD and cheap furniture store. Bloomington. Monster Pawn occasionally has some finds. Eric's Fast Cash has really deteriorated, and the inventory ad Midwest Exchange sees zero turnover. It's been a while since I hit campus, as the last time I was there Discount Den no longer carried CDs, and 2 of the 4 CD stores had closed, and only 1 of the 2 left was worth a shit.... and even then only on occasion. Pekin. Co-Op records is worth stopping in if you're into metal. I stop there when coming back from... Canton. It's a crappy little town that there's really no easy way to get to, but for some reason has TWO really good CD stores. Capitol Music is decent if not pedestrian, but the real draw is Shandi's Music and More. Bobby, the owner, is a bigtime glam fan, and his store is a combination pawn shop, CD store, head shop, and hangout. DVDs, piercing jewelry, sports cards, porn mags, pro wrestling paraphernalia, you name it. He stocks all of the new material on Frontiers, Perris, Z Records, etc. Both new and used CDs. You'll do better online as far as pricing, but it's neat to be able to actually flip through the stuff, and you'll find Japanese imports as well as some out of print stuff. I seriously recommend a special trip. I've never done Peoria, and I avoid Chicagoland like the plague. Lastly, since I just went there today, I figure it's worth another mention: Lafayette, IN. JL Records has just about anything and everything across all genres. Not cheap, but the selection is huge. Here is an article with pictures that shows what JL Records is all about. You can easily spend an entire day there. The other CD stores I used to frequent in Lafayette have closed. I'm in the process of organizing the stuff I bought today (about $350 worth) so a new Scrounger's Report will be coming tonight or tomorrow. Happy hunting, -Dan
