  1. The music is pretty darn good....however, the thing that I'm thinking is happening is that Solinger's vox is a bit flat. He doesn't extend the notes like Bas did/does and it could use that in some areas. Seems he sells the song a bit short on some of them. Some are good though...... I'll definitely buy it....
  2. Wow.....that was incredibly boring. I mean.......slow....plodding......downbeat. I buy hundreds of discs a year....but THAT one won't be one of them, that's for sure!!
  3. This album is soooooo good!!! Perfect mix of Stryper and his Solo stuff......just so damn good. He is at the top of his game songwriting the last few years, and his voice is just.....STELLAR!! Buy this! It should be in a lot of Top 10's this year, I would think.
  4. Did I detect a little Voss in the vocals?! Sounds pretty good to me!
  5. Excellent tune....will definitely check 'em out.
  6. Nice.....I'm sure I'll pick up that Deluxe Edition!
  7. Yeah, the artwork was done by the same person who did Destroyer........so, I'm diggin' it. Looking forward to hearing this album and see what Ace has up his sleeve this time. Hope it's good!
  8. Dude....excellent tune!!!! I, for one, would LOVE to know if they're demo is around anywhere? I would love one!
  9. Love Saga......definitely looking forward to this release!!
  10. Hahahaha...or, yeah....a cassette would be awesome!!
  11. They weren't bad at all.......the vocalist is really good for her age, and....she's only going to get better. More Joan Jett than Lita Ford, I would say......but not bad at all. These kinds of acts always pique my interest.....
  12. LOL...... Pull is a great, great underappreciated and relatively unknown release. It took, to me, a relatively weaker sound that the band had and added some steroids. It also contained the most complete listening experience on a Winger album, for me at the time, as the first two had their moments but were very hit and miss. It is cliche to say now...but Warrrant did the same thing with their magnificent release "Dog Eat Dog"....another massive sounding record. Based on Geoff's early review **how the hell did you get all the tracks anyway??!!**......I'm casually worried, as I wasn't a huge fan of their present stuff...with Karma being a nice record though.
  13. I don't mind the heaviness of the music....but, I want to hear melody in his vocals. There was a glimpse of it on that snippet, so I'm not losing hope that it'll be good. We shall see....
  14. Yeah mate, this is the bit that stood out to me too. I'm not having a go at Jim as he's a great chap, but if I'm not mistaken, you're a religious man and like christian rock music, and it's lyrics? Now, to me personally, that lyrical content is moronic. As in, really, really stupid... on par with a mature adult singing serious songs about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. But there is a really massive difference between Steel Panther and christian music in general. One is done in the name of good natured fun, the other is deadly serious. Honestly, I think Steel Panther are intelligent, if anything. Their lyrics are hardcore, pornographic and plain offensive in most cases, but they're not like anyone else's. They're not beating around the bush. They're doing something unique enough that it has stood out above all of their peers and brought them a great deal of success. Their lyrics are well crafted, have caused a stir and have earned them a hell of a lot of money. I'd say they're pretty damn smart... any funny. On the flip side, the problem with christian music is that they're not joking. Their lyrics are far more stupid, and sadly serious. There is no joke or parody to hide behind. That garble is sincere, and you honestly think Steel Panther and their audience are more stupid than those bands and their audience? Like you say, if you like it that's fine. I know one thing for sure. If I had the option to take life tips from a christian band or Steel Panther, I'd get a whole lot more logical sense out of the guys from Steel Panther. And for the record, what makes a politically correct sense of humour more intelligent than a non-politically correct sense of humour? Is there research to prove that? Just because you find humour in jokes about politics and mathematical equations, doesn't automatically make you more intelligent than someone who finds amusement in Steel Panther. Well, I don't think so anyway... Actually, Geoff I'm not a Christian! lol But, yeah....I have a ton of hard rock christian acts/releases in my collection. A collection that spans every genre and well over 10,0000 releases, so I do own a few Christian bands stuff. I don't get all warm and fuzzy over overtly Christian lyrics either but I can enjoy the music, just as I can enjoy Steel Panther's music but think their lyrics are for teenagers. When weird Al came out in the 80's I was a teenager and then a college age kid. His shit was stupid then.......just as I think Steel Panther's shit is over the top ridiculous and stupid. And, Nick C.........yeah.......I guess I am making the point that if you enjoy Steel Panther on the same level that people enjoy Jerry Springer, then I guess I would throw you into that category in my opinion (in this instance). That's what makes the ability to have an opinion great.....we don't all agree. Do I think I'm 'better than you'......no, because I realize it's only entertainment that we're discussing....and you wouldn't be the first that I would disagree with on that and it's about THIS particular stuff...not life as a whole. You and I have co-existed on this website for over 10 years...and we definitely see 'eye to eye' on many many things....just not Steel Panther. It's no different than if I were hanging out with my friends and I called one of them an idiot for liking them.....they would look at me and say 'fuck off, they rock!' and I would look back and probably tell them some other shit and we would laugh and move on......same here for me. I always find it interesting that because myself....and I know, Jez....some others on here think the way we do that we are then categorized as 'old', 'sensitive', or whatever you want...but in all aspects of life that wouldn't be correct. But when it comes to this crap.....yeah....you can call me all of those things if it makes ya feel better about your own choices. I don't hold those opinions against anybody....because I know the score..... Glen.....yeah...it is a damn shame that their music (which really rawks) has to be relegated to the parody bin. I have music with Ralph on it doin' his thing and he's excellent. Saw him live with L.A. Guns too....dude has it vocally. A true talented individual.....heck...they all are damn good at their craft. To me, and to some degree....it's a waste..... In the end, Nick and a host of others on here......we all like what we like....we all think maybe something is better than something else....we all think someone is crazy....or an idiot....are awesome....or whatever....but we still have on common bond....and that is that we all truly, truly LOVE rock and roll....and that we cannot deny!! Rock on.....** walks away thinking....(maybe Morton Downey Jr...would have been a better analogy)....lol**
  15. Not really because the point is it goes beyond the genre. Yeah there will be people who love the genre who are put off by it "mocking" their glorious music, but the fact is a lot of fans are hair metal fans, and unlike hair metal, it also attracts people who dont normally like the genre "because" its a parody. No different to people liking a Weird Al parody, but hating the artist he is parodying. Its because despite some peoples distaste for rude lyrics, a lot of people want something that entertains them, and having a comedy/music crossover gives them something different. No different in fact to sometimes wanting to watch a serious drama film, and other times wanting to watch a slapstick comedy. Some parody films like Airplane or Naked gun for instance are more popular than the films they parody, but that does not make that a said state of affairs. Simple fact is that hair metal has been a niche genre for over 20 years now, and to have any band from that genre get such a positive reaction, parody or not, should be seen as a good thing. I'd much rather have someone talk to me about how good Steel Panther is than talk to me about Kanye West or Miley Cyrus. A parody for parody's sake is fine. I wasn't speaking to that aspect of it. Weird Al was popular doing it in the 80's.....yes...and now Steel Panther have the trophy, and good for them. Although they're parodying a genre and not a specific artist, I'll give you the analogy that they're at least paradoies. Still doesn't mean I have to enjoy or like it.....just as you might...or might not. It's all personal opinion. And, I don't despise 'rude' lyrics....to me, those lyrics are aimed at a high school mindset and The Jerry Springer crowd. Childish....and stupid.....just like the people who love Jerry Springer. It's the lowest common denominator in society that those shows and this record pander to. All in the name of 'entertainment'...lol If you love it....well, then by God...love it.....but, just as you love it....I will hate it and think that it truly is a sad state of affairs. The fact that you use an analogy that you'd rather have someone talk to you about them than Kanye West or Miley Cyrus is disingenuous to the discussion. The more appropriate analogy would be....that you love the fact that people are talking about Steel Panther rather than W.E.T., Crash Diet or any other hard rock act of note that could be discussed....but is not.
  16. Since Firehouse aren't putting out anything new (Lord only knows why not), I sure am glad that he's doin' this Rubicon Cross thing......very good stuff!
  17. It was alright....keep at it though! And, yeah.....the video could have used some wave babies like in your pic in your post!
  18. Excellent tune! I'll be the first to admit that I hate their childish and ridiculous lyrics....but this tune was one of the better ones I've ever heard from them. Ralph found his niche by being a spoof/parody...much like Spinal Tap, and good for him if he can make a living out of it. But I didn't like Spinal Tap and, for the most part, I don't like Steel Panther due to their silly and OTT lyrics. I think they could still parody a band by the ott style and performance, but using those lyrics just takes it all away for me. And......I know they could make a normal kick ass hard rock record that would sell respectably in our community. Their tunes...without the lyrics...are excellent for the most part. I also think it's a sad state of affairs when the spoof is more popular than the 'normal' bands of the genre.......but, and I always say this......to each their own.
  19. I always enjoy these kinds of topics..... Ginger has to be one of the most prolific songwriters in rock music. The Wildhearts are a GREAT band....and I own all of their releases, including fan club, Mondo, etc. Just great, great hooks and melodies..... As for bands that MOST people should know about but probably don't.....well, here are some that I feel are vastly underappreciated: Fear Not - Fear Not (oh how I wish Larry Worley would have released more material!!! It's a damn shame that he hasn't **to my knowledge**) Roxxi - Drive it to Ya Hard This is just great hook laden and tight hard rock that, to these ears, is magnificent and should have been huge. I tried contacting the guitar player on facebook about other material, etc. but never got a reply back. Wonder if they have/had any demo material floating around the East coast?! And, one band that I could never get enough of **even though they've released 7 or so albums** and I thought after their initial release should have been HUGE was Von Groove....just love their stuff and always hope that someday they'll release another album. Those are just a few of so many that I feel have not received the mass appeal I think they should have!
  20. I'm not sure I understand why NEH wouldn't sell these releases? I see no reason a 'distributor' would lose out on product that suits its buyers. Would NEH have to prepay for the discs and then sell them or do they do a consignment kind of thing? I'm not sure of his business model....but still, seems so odd to me.......
