And Dans viewpoint is the one that counts at the end of the day. If he thinks something belongs on one site over the other, that is because his viewpoint. Same as if he decides a band does not belong on any of his sites. Many years ago I put forward the idea of two bands. The Donnas and Bowling For Soup as in my opinion they are both melodic pop rock who owe more to 80s hard rock than the punk genre they often get labled with. He agreed The Donnas belonged, but BFS he did not think fitted. I felt that was a fair decision based on his viewpoint. End of the day, we are all merely subjects kneeling at the altar of Dan. -

All the bands mentioned are metal bands imo. Even if they had a few songs or an album that was on the lighter side of things. It all comes down to each persons viewpoint as to what is heavy and what is not. I see the cut off line as blurred... -

I think Perry is the second voice in a few places... not sure. But yeah, the "w/Steve Perry" is overstating things SIGNIFICANTLY. I liked some of the previously-released singles, but this one is one of the weaker efforts IMO. -

Brutal metal is just a name, and not reflective of it being one specific type of metal. Metal is metal no matter how soft or heavy. I mean, Heavy harmonies is also just a name the encompasses various forms of hard rock. Doesn't mean all the bands featured have layered backing vocals etc. There has to be a cut off for everything. One site is metal the other is hard rock. Priest and Maiden are metal. Saxon I never classed as metal as their music was far more radio friendly. And Accept has stradled the line between genres. Especially when you think about the Eat the heat album. Nothing metal about that. -

Early 70s Priest I kinda agree as being more hard rock, but 80s was defo more metal, and everything from Painkiller onwards is pure 100% metal. -

Sharing because I didn't want to be the only person who suffered through this steaming pile of dogshit. Apparently it's "with Steve Perry" but I think he's just one of those backing vocals buried in effects. I guess the singer isn't very good and that's why he's auto-tuned out the arse with effects over everything? Everything about this is shockingly bad. I'll end on a positive and say thank god Steve Maggioria has distanced himself from this. -
Chris Cornell did an interview once where he was talking about how college rock used to be these weird records that nobody ever really heard that a if they got placed on the radio it was at 3 am by some kid doing a show out of his dorm but then college rock became alternative rock and alternative rock became mainstream and then he said what are we the alternative too, what's not on the radio.

Whenever I hear "Shine", this always springs to mind.

Coincidently I heard "Shine" today again and this time I listened with a critical ear. I really think it is far more classic rock sounding than alternative. I know they are more than one song, but that is the big hit that everyone knows. If Kissin Dynamite released "Shine" today (if we had never heard the song before) we'd all think it was frigging amazing. Alternative is a pretty dumb label now as many bands considered alternative are basically mainstream rock. What are these million-selling bands alternative to exactly?
