Your latest KILLER tune!

Recommended Posts

Another new thread from me ... it's a quiet day. :)

Lots of posts on here with first impressions, album reviews, etc. I just thought it would be good to have somewhere specific for killer tunes. (I did look to see if there was a similar old thread knocking around somewhere

‘New’ means new to you, rather than a new release. So if you’ve recently been listening to an album for the first time/few times, whether the album is years old or brand new, and there’s a song that really stands out as something special, post it here. Killer songs only though, e.g. something that would get in to your top 500 (or so) songs if you kept such a list.

There may be more than one, especially in the first post, but I’m hoping that eventually you’ll just post songs in here as you hear them and they rock your world. Here are mine for the last 2-3 months:

  • Crazy Lixx - Riot Avenue
  • Crazy Lixx - Church of Rock
  • Cruella D'Ville - Room Without a View
  • Testament - Last Stand For Independence

Anyone else?

This is kind of like a best songs of 2012 thread for me because most new music I do hear is actual new music. I think I am at a point with my collection where I have most, if not all the "older" released I wanted, in some format. Of course I'm sure there's some obscure gem out there I may not have ever heard of, but I reckon I have most of them. Just got to try to keep up with the new ones. Anyway, dished out a few 10's this year - more than last year for sure. These were all "perfect" songs for me this year so far:

Safetysuit - Never stop

Blessed By A Broken Heart - Forever

H.E.A.T - Living on the run

Wigelius - Talking About Love

Dallas - I Close My Eyes

Dallas - Open Your Heart

Hess - Reach For You

Star City Meltdown - Here's to Us

Star City Meltdown - Untied

USA!USA!USA - Michelle

USA!USA!USA - Karina

USA!USA!USA - Marissa

DoryDrive - Tattooed

DoryDrive - Fallin' For You

Athel - Radio

The Seeking - You Won't Bring Me Down

I'm in a drought and need some new stuff. Dusted off, "Pull" by Winger tonight after years of neglect and was reminded of why I picked it my favorite CD here. That whole CD rocks. "Blind Revolution Mad" cranked up while I type. :headbanger:

Just discovered State of Shock's 2011 CD, so "Have a Nice Day" would be my latest Killer Tune, but I need more to sample on Spotify. I'll check out what you and Geoff posted tomorrow. Thanks.

I'll post my 10/10 songs in 2012 later in the week when I get a chance to trawl back.

A couple I've not heard on Geoff's list but unsurprisingly they do all suspiciously look like ballads - even tho he contests that they aren't always his favourite songs

The big softie ;-)

Tsk tsk, how poorly you judge a book by it's cover. FYI:

Safetysuit - Never stop - ballad

Blessed By A Broken Heart - Forever

H.E.A.T - Living on the run

Wigelius - Talking About Love

Dallas - I Close My Eyes - ballad

Dallas - Open Your Heart

Hess - Reach For You - not really a ballad, but damn close

Star City Meltdown - Here's to Us

Star City Meltdown - Untied - ballad

USA!USA!USA - Michelle

USA!USA!USA - Karina - not a ballad, but a light tune for sure

USA!USA!USA - Marissa

DoryDrive - Tattooed

DoryDrive - Fallin' For You

Athel - Radio

The Seeking - You Won't Bring Me Down

That makes 5 out of 16 of my favourite songs of the years are ballads. Less than 1/3.

You'll find that on killer CDs, ballads are rarely my favourite songs. It happens more so on CDs that aren't amazing, that often the ballad is about the best of the bunch. Just had a quick look at my 9.5+ list and there don't seem to many ballads at all... ;)

I'm no ballad fan, but will check out the songs in your list. I'm more keen to know which ones are modern-sounding, as that's not my bag of chips at all. Will listen to the others in your list with baited ... erm ... ears though.

These are the only ones that aren't really "modern" I'd guess by your standards:

H.E.A.T - Living on the run

Wigelius - Talking About Love

Dallas - I Close My Eyes - ballad

Dallas - Open Your Heart

Hess - Reach For You

The USA!USA!USA! stuff isn't really "modern" either, but probably is to most. Who knows? All I need to know is they're all killer melodic rock songs. Not too concerned about the finer details. ;)

wowser mate, see youre lovin the Sapphire Eyes.

Didnt hit the mark for me............all pretty good, but equally forgettable.

:-(

Yeah mate like I said in another thread, it'll probably be this year's Shadows Fade for me.I remember in the year of it's release it didn't please a lot of people, but I loved the thing. There's just something about those moody mid-tempo tunes that really gets to me. And here we have an album with one ballad (the album's weakest song) and one uptempo rocker, and the rest is all that mid-tempo stuff I just lap up. Like I said, could be samey to some and I'd understand that, but if 8 porn stars wanted to give me a blow job I'm pretty sure I'd love each experience as much as the last. When something's real good, I can't fault a band for sticking to what works.

Blame James. I only adhere to the thread starter's commands. ;)

Have Debbie Ray released a disc this year, or is that just the single you're hooked on? I remember it being pretty awesome.

Yeah i'll give it a another listen or 2 for sure on Spotify before I cast on the pile, but i wasnt being blown away....as you say might have been the one pace of the album, but not much stuck. Also the vocals were a little accented.....mmm.

No pop at you mate.

Yeah the debbie rose was basically an EP, but I do love that song. Hoping they release a full length cd next year (with this song on it!) as I really liked the debut.

I don't usually mark tracks, but if I did a 9 would definitely qualify as a killer tune. I probably only find 10 - 15 new killer tunes in any given year, and only 1 or 2 of those would be a 10. I would have to reserve 10/10 for the likes of Whitesnake - Crying In The Rain (1987) White Sister - Can't Say No, Def Leppard - Billy's Got A Gun, House of Lords - Hearts of the World, Blackrain - Kill Em All.... OK, I could keep going for ages, but there are very few songs at that level, i.e. 100%-ers.

Having said all that, I probably listen to a lot less new music than you chaps - I probably get through 30 new releases a year, so I'm bound to have far fewer killer songs.

Just found this funny as I like both of these albums, but those songs are among my least favourites. Amazing how we can both enjoy the albums, yet your favourite songs are my worst and probably vice versa.

Agreed. For me, anything above an 8 is a pretty freakin' good song and a 9+ is often worth ejaculating over.

and

Eclipse - SOS (Wasn't sure about this one, but I think it sneaks in as a 'killer' tune.)

    • So some may remember that Tyketto toured recently and aside from Forever Young, I never delved into this band. So I did, so I'd know the songs in concert and was blown away. A great band with an awesome catalog that I had missed out on. To be fair, in the 80's it was a lot harder to access and find out about a lot of the more fringe bands, that's my excuse anyway. So I now am faced with digging deeper into some other bands I've overlooked. Some of these I gave a go, and wasn't really impressed, but now I'm starting fresh with an open mind. So below is a list of bands I have eitehr never bothered with, or never really gave a proper go. Lizzy Borden is on the list and I have done a bit of their stuff and like it a lot, so I will definately dig deeper into them (I've got some older stuff and some newer stuff, but have skipped quite a few albums) But the others, fire away, tell me which bands have killer material that I'll froth and how stppid I've been to skip them. Aldo Nova Badlands Baby Tango Baton Rouge Black N Blue Britney Fox BulletBoys DAD Giant Hanoi Rocks Hardline Jetboy King Kobra Kingdom Come Lillian Axe Lizzy Borden Loudness Love Hate Quireboys Saigon Kick Santa Cruz Shotgun Messiah SleezeBeez SouthGang Tiger Tailz TNT Vain White Tiger

This EP gathers all the singles released since "Now!", encapsulating the essence of Roulettes latest musical explorations. • I like the album art. I love when contemporary Glam Metal bands have album art with a genuine 80s vibe to it.

    • This is definitely the first time I've heard about it, I'll have to give it a listen!
