Estrella - Come Out To Play

Anyone heard of this band? Yet another one discovered through the pages of Powerplay magazine, which Ive seen somewhat unfairly (imo) maligned on this site. Sounds like decent 80s Hard Rock, quite American sounding for a Scottish band. There are a number of positive reviews of the album online and some tracks from the album on Youtube, which seem pretty good.

The band site is: http://estrellarocks.com/

They are also on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/estrellarock

Anyone else liking the sound of this lot?

Yeah, sounds pretty good mate. Weak production job and pretty basic songs, but I do like them. 'One Love' is very nice... but yeah pretty average production...

You still buy Powerplay mag? I occasionally flick-through it when I see it in the shop (I'd never buy it) and it always amazes me. It amazes me that people with zero journalistic ability can actually make cash out of writing. :)

Agreed, but it does have a lot of reviews in it, some of which are worth checking out. I know this won't be popular on here, but I much prefer it to Fireworks. The writing isn't always brilliant, but the reviews section is pretty comprehensive and it's a lot more up to date than Fireworks.

I gave this album a proper first spin yesterday and overall I think it's quite good. Out of 14 tracks, there are at least 5 passable tracks, so picking from the best 12 tracks, I think it's around 72.5% so still in the middle of dropping to 70 or climbing to 75.

The music is sort of 80s melodic rock / AOR combined with 70s hard rock, so perhaps not for everyone.

Best tracks here are 'Chance of A Lifetime', 'One Love', 'She's Got It', 'Whatever It Is', and 'I'd Give It All'. Some potentials are 'Monalisa Smile', 'Shout', 'Do It Till We Drop', and 'Don't Forget Me'.

Sounds okay and probably better in the second spin, although this might be hard to find it cheap as it's an indie release.

It's pretty cheap if you get it direct...
