PLANET 3 - Music From the Planet (remaster)

TIM (2)

Recommended Posts

I notice this one has just been remastered by Sonic Thrust (with a terrible cover), containing the bonus track "Dreamers" and some liner notes by Dave Reynolds of ex-Kerrang! fame. Whereas this is in my all-time Top 5 AOR albums and is an absolute monster of killer tunes by Jay Graydon/Clif Magness, the bonus track is pretty average (I already have it) and this is based upon the Euro-version with the awful "Modern Girl" tagged onto the end - not sung by Magness. This album is utterly essential IMO, but it is worth every single penny to seek out the Japanese version called "A Heart From the Big Machine" with the better packaging and with one of the greatest ever westcoast/AOR songs on the end called "I Will Be Loving You" - sung by Magness. Skip this re-mastered version IMO.

what ive heard from this album is pretty chill, way light, but killer catchy tunes, to hunt down the japanese version which im sure is dirt cheap, I need someones reassurance that every song on here is equally as good as the first 2, which are the ones I heard at my step dads house, does this group have anything to do with Jay Graydon or not? give me a little backing info, cause generally Tim i dont ever admit it but i look into shit you post on here, and find you are hardly ever off, or hardly ever say a band is good, if it is not, but i just havent heard this whole cd, is it all at least as good as the first part of the disc?

Yeah this is Jay Graydon's project, along with Glen Ballard and Clif Magness. The harmonies are sensational and the first 7 songs are all utterly flawless IMHO with very little to choose between them. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick a best track then it would be "I Don't Wanna Say Goodnight", but there are at least 7 (depending upon which version you get) outright monster tunes. This is a little like Magness' own album "Solo", but more consistent. The Euro version ends with a song sung by Bill Cantos which is just MOR drivel, whereas the JAP closing song is utterly incredible.

'I Don't Wanna Say Goodnight' is magical, pure westcoast perfection, a very Chicago vibe there don't u think ?

btw i'm also lookin for this disc but hell it's not an easy job to look for the original pressing especially Jap, btw yeah i think the remastered version's cover is horrible but even that thing is very rare these days, or do you know any place cheap ?

Sorry don't know anywhere cheap, though AOR Heaven have the new re-master. Agree it's a bit like Chicago, though Magness' smooth vocs remind me of the more AOR singer-songwriter types like Brett Walker/Stan Meissner/Tim Feehan. There are plenty of different versions of this thing available but my advice would always be to seek out the JAP one, whatever the cost. And avoid the "Gems Unreleased" follow-up disc, which has very few "gems" on it.

    • This is kind of a twofer. I just got my Pioneer VX-90 Betamax back yesterday. Cost me a fortune to get it fixed. Well worth it to have such a beast of a machine. Before that I only had low to mid tier Beta machines. I am very excited. The first tape I played was Quiet Riot: Bang Thy Head. Watching that video I found myself in awe of how awesome Quiet Riot were during those first few years. How is it possible for a band to be that awesome and have it all go so wrong so quickly? By the time I heard about Quiet Riot in the early 2000s they were basically considered a joke. Sadly, I kind of just accepted that as fact. I was a casual fan at best and never really looked much deeper than the radio hits. That was a mistake. I am lucky that I at least got to see them live a couple times. I didn't appreciate it at the time. That was really cool of Kevin and the other guys to sign my ticket stub.
    • From Bravewords... Legendary rock guitarist Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands, Red Dragon Cartel) has issued an update after he was shot multiple times earlier this week in a Las Vegas, NV street shooting. Jake shared the following via social media: "Checking. Is this on? Been awhile since I posted here. Let’s see: "I deeply appreciate all the concern and well wishes. Makes everything going on a little better. To clarify, I was shot three times. I was on my way back home from walking my dog Coco (I didn’t name him so don’t!) Don’t want to go into details now, I’m tired, but I feel relatively very lucky. The police found 15 shell casings at the scene which means he emptied his clip on me. I could only dodge so many so one bullet went through my forearm, one through my foot, and one in the back which broke a rib and damaged a lung. Priority now is to keep draining my lung till it’s done crying. Then we can pull that tube out and concentrate on the more minor injuries. "And by the way, Coco’s fine and appreciates your inquiries!"   Police released a statement regarding the shooting, which occurred early morning on October 15. The statement reads: "Officers responded to a shooting incident in the 11000 block of Alora Street. Officers arrived and located a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was transported to the hospital. No arrests have been made at this time. This is an ongoing investigation." In a statement to TMZ, Ozzy Osbourne said, “It’s been 37 years since I’ve seen Jake E. Lee, but that still doesn’t take away from the shock of hearing what happened to him today. It’s just another senseless act of gun violence. I send my thoughts to him and his beautiful daughter, Jade. I just hope he’ll be ok.” Lee played with Ozzy from 1983-1987 and was featured on the albums Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin.

    • So I have this info from a reliable inside source. There will be a new CL album at the start of 2025, and Danny is also working with Chez Kane on her third album which should come out late 2025.
