GRAND ILLUSION - "Brand New World"

This is one of my fave Pomp/AOR bands, and they're finally back and sounding more bombastic/OTT than ever. The new disc is totally lopsided, with 4 killer tunes opening and 3 great tunes at the end, but some weaker songs through the middle. That said, "All Out of Love" is mind-blowing AOR stuff with a mega-chorus and huge harmonies and is worth the entry price alone. The solos on this disc are flawless, and if you love huge OTT harmonies then there's no better band on planet earth for you to get into. Generally patchy stuff here, but well worth buying for 3 or 4 of the best AOR tunes of the year...

I have this on order with an expected release date of 31/06.....

You could always cancel that order and buy it through AOR HEAVEN (the label) as they have it in stock. Will be right up your street I reckon...

The new one seems to be really strong. Great band :headbanger:

There really are some amazing melodies/harmonies on this disc (apart from the stunning openin duo, "Sacrifice" is extraordinary). That said none of the tracks from 5 through to 9 have grown on me at all, and tracks 3 and 10 are hardly amazing either. In fact 5 and 6 are just plain awful IMO. 5 straight-out filler tracks is not a good return, even though the best moments are utterly amazing...

The only tracks I don't particularly like are 8 & 9, which are definitely the fillers on here. the rest are all pretty excellent, especially the first 4 tracks, the title track and the finishing 3 which all hit home aswell, 'Sacrifice' as you say is a monster. Some really nice solos on here, and also of note some excellent 'Subtle' keys and huge backing vox aswell. Great disc all in all

They released one more disc ('Prince Of Paupers') after this before they quit. Great band, great releases.
