Mass - Sea Of Black

Mass return with an excellent album, flitting between "Dark and moody" beginnings into pure m/hr with powerful guitars filling every available space. Then they slow down to mid-temo rockers that highlight the vox,but the guitars remain to the fore. The ballads are acoustic driven, especially the mega "More Than A Friend".

"Til We Meet Again" is another stonking mid-tempo ballad followed by "Captain Jack" an acoustic, thoughtful instrumental, before bowing out with the solid rockin' title track.......

Fantastic fookin' album !!!!

I really want this one. I didn't at all like their last album before this, but then I took it off my trade list when I heard (and really liked) their first 3 albums. I'll give it another go, but this new one sounds very interesting indeed.

I liked 'Voices In The Night' back in the day...but listening to it now, it's basically a Stryper album...haha! The tones, the backing vocals, everything...Michael Sweet didn't bring out Mass so much as he injected himself into Mass...

That said, I'll give this new one a shot...

This one is better than the last CD, I'll say. Still a very similar style of rather unspectacular melodic hard rock... but not bad at all. Only a couple of duds, but mostly solid. I'll look for this to be selling cheaply in a few months and pick up a copy.

Michael Sweet...injected himself into Mass.

Good Lord, I hope you don't mean that in the biblical sense...

    • What is the new Covid variant and why is it a concern? Scientists have detected a new Covid-19 variant called B.1.1.529 and are working to understand its potential implications. About 100 confirmed cases have been identified in South Africa, Hong Kong, Israel and Botswana.   B.1.1.529 has a very unusual constellation of mutations, which are worrying because they could help it evade the body’s immune response and make it more transmissible, scientists have said. Any new variant that is able to evade vaccines or spread faster than the now-dominant Delta variant may pose a significant threat as the world emerges from the pandemic. Dr Susan Hopkins, the chief medical adviser to the UK Health Security Agency, said the R value, or effective reproduction number, of the B.1.1.529 variant in the South African province of Gauteng, where it was first found, was now 2 – a level of transmission not recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, before restrictions began to be imposed. For an R of anything above 1, an epidemic will grow exponentially.
    • Now kids... fight nice. This is the Flamefest section, so there's a bit more latitude here than in other areas. I think Glen is deliberately pushing your buttons, i.e., trolling you... especially since he "couldn't care less about U.S. politics"... *ahem*. He know he can push you into a rant. Don't fall for it. Ignore him like most of the rest of the people here do.
    • While I'm in the atheist camp I do not have a problem with most of the people who have faith in God....to each their own...as for Xmas , it is a holiday and should be about family and if religion is a necessary part of it for you, then so be it.....

    • I admire atheists level of faith. They have so much more faith than me. Being able to walk around and think everything in existence is an accident with no meaning. It must take a will of steel to just believe so wholeheartedly that all there is to life if a big black hole with nothing but death as the outcome. And to do so with a smile! Gotta love atheists and their incredible faith! Bless 'em.
