Lost Weekend

Haha, good to see no comments on this. I therefore assume everyone has stayed clear of it?

I have a real problem with this band. Every single CD they've recorded has a great, tight production job, except 'Presence of Mind'. Also, every single CD they've recorded has completely sucked, again, except 'Presence of Mind'. That was their one and only really good album, but what they've delivered since (and before) is just useless.

To descibe the new one I will refer only to the one song, 'Backstreet Livin'. Horrid lyrics, but any band could have made this song sound really good. Except Lost Weekend. How bored, by-the-numbers and restrained this song sounds is an example of what to expect from this disc. The fact that this song is by far the best on the disc is painful to acknowledge. :(

I have it and played it 3 or 4 times and got bored. It's not terrible and has one or two good moments, but nothing really stands out to be honest.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've given the latest release another spin and it sounds pretty damn good to me!!

Of Course, I'm a fan of LW... I'd say it's the best cd all the way thru since the debut. More rockin and guitar oriented and less keyboards than past releases. Check out the guitar solo on "Life with the lid taken off"..it really rocks!! I found most of the tracks to be pretty catchy..maybe it's been heard before, but if it ain't broke.... I'd like to see them live in the U.S.!!

Was very disappointed in this. I have all their releases and was really anticipating the release after an MP3 track was posted on Melodicrock.com about a month prior. I loved the MP3 track. As it turns out, that was 'THE' track on the entire album....the rest was fertilizer!!!

Wow, big call, mate.

Just while we're all here (all 5 of us who actually know who Lost Weekend are), I'm interested to know what all you guys think is their best disc. As I said in my above post, I still think 'Presence of mind' is the only good CD they have ever released. Is this one not generally thought of as their best?

    • I'd like to think so too, but I don't think it is. But I am always weary of what's being reported in Australian media. Are we just seeing everything from the hysterical, moronic and blown out of proportion version that the Aussie media feeds us? Or are there actually things happening outside of this country that are as hysterically panic driven as they are here? From the few other things I've heard, globally, it does seem that this variant has earned it's own little slice of worldwide panic, so I guess we'll see. This Panic First, Ask Questions Later mentality that the world has adopted is honestly an (even further) embarrassment to humanity. If I didn't have children I would confess that the time has certainly well and truly come for the human race to be nuked and made extinct. I ponder how much I hated humans in 2019. It took 40 years to build up that level of hatred. I am not even kidding to say that those 40 years of built up hatred has probably doubled, if not tripled or even quadrupled in the space of the two years since. What I think of what has become of the human race in the space of two years has no words left to describe it.
    • It is definitely flashdance. I can't unhear it now.
    • Everyone I have spoken to from cities are shitting themselves over this Omricon variant. I say to them "don't you want things to go back to normal?". But they really don't. They are loving living in a police state. I have spoken to a number of ex-prisoners as well who have similar thoughts about jail. I think a lot of people are wired to like having freedom and choice taken away from them. They enjoy having fewer options. It is bizarre to me.
    • the first song wasn't the clip I heard - this sound more promising to me https://www.facebook.com/100764135031478/posts/426269785814243/
    • mmmm. Erik great, verses great, solo typical but still good, chorus suspect.  Am I the only one who hears Flashdance in the chorus 🤔 🤣🤣🤣
    • I am not here to convince any of you the Way. I believe everyone has the means and now makes their choice as per free will. Yet , isn't it amusing (well it is to me) how fundamentalist atheists are in their certainty. And I guess that is why you are so intolerant to other beliefs. There is no room for doubt in your minds. You feel you know all the answers and that there are no mysteries outside of your understanding. Though you are just a speck upon a speck upon a speck staring at a piece of dirt on the toenail of an elephant and then believing that is the entire knowledge of the elephant. Good luck with that.
    • Yeah, I mean that's a fair call. This is what people originally were concerned about and it's gradually happened and not many people have really noticed or cared. Tracking everyone everywhere they go. (if you scan in  )
