  1. Here's what I think.

my rating system is a bit more straight forward

1 Sign Of The Times – Took a couple of listens, but I quite like this one - GOOD

    2 She Moves Me - meh - AVERAGE/WEAK

3 Crazy – OK, probably grow on me a bit I guess - AVERAGE

4 Love Don’t Live Here - the best song. Most like great white - GREAT

    5. My Addiction - I like this one, kind of reminds me of vampire type music. What you’d expect on Lost Boys etc - GREAT

    6. Anything For You – a nice little ballad. Nothing new or exciting. Not a song you’d probably want to whack on a disc with other songs unless they were all like this. - AVERAGE

    7. He Saw It Comin’ – Kinda funky, a bit Beatlesque possibly at times. I like it at times, then Jack sings “he saw it comin’” over and over and kills the song - AVERAGE

    8. Don’t Let Me Go – Another funky song. I like this done much more than the last. - GOOD

    9. Spy Vs Spy – It’s ok, may grow on me - AVERAGE

    10. Blame It On The Night – meh - AVERAGE/WEAK

    11. Godspeed – What the hell? Run out of songs much? I get what he’s trying to do, but Billy Joel did it already 30 years ago. - WEAK

  2. It isn't Great White at all, and I agree that he shouldn't be using the name for that reason alone.

A few songs have a bit of GW in them, but more because of the voice than anything else.

I think I'll eventually see this album as being ok, but only if I dissociate it with GW.

Kind of like Coverdale and Into The Light. If you were expecting Whitesnake, you'd not be happy.

  3. My thoughts:

    1. Sign Of The Times 7.5/10

    2. She Moves Me 6/10

    3. Crazy 6.5/10

    4. Love Don’t Live Here 8/10

    5. My Addiction 6.5/10

    6. Anything For You 7/10

    7. He Saw It Comin' 6/10

    8. Don’t Let Me Go 6/10

    9. Spy Vs Spy 6.5/10

    10. Blame It On The Night 7/10

    11. Godspeed 5/10

    Total: 65%

I'm gonna assume that is a pretty bad score for you.

As I've said before, I struggle with your ratings system here.

For me an 8/10 is a great song, 7/10 is really good, 6/10 is good and 5/10 is ok

  4. Was listing to some Steve stuff today.

It all started way rawer production wise, and Steve's voice was quite a bit less rounded.

Gradually they became more produced, which isn't a bad thing, probably about right.

Once Nic came in, the sound did get a lot softer, with more ballads and less hard rock. Right now I'd say they are overproduced, but it seems to fit the style of softer music (ie: if they were still doing the harder edged songs, they would sound pretty crappy with the current production.

So for me, that is how the band changed between singers, and from Firebirth to Silver they have got 'pussier' each album which again I don't mind, but I'm sure that's the main complaint from many others.

  5. Yeah, I can understand that, and I do it as well sometimes.

But then I remember a Joey C Jones album which I bought and was pretty average on the first spin.

Then I listened to it a few times and started to like The Role You Know So Well which I still listen to every now and then.

Never would have happened if I hadn't persisted.

But then again it can be a slow process to luck in to a few good songs on some average discs.

May have to try and be more like you and flip them after a spin or two.

Lately all the bands who you'd always play a lot regardless of the first spin have dwindled.

All the 80's band still going do a CD every 3 or 4 years, and the rest are wither gone or completely different.

Hardcore Superstar is the perfect example of a band who would normally be guaranteed non stop playing of a new CD< but then we got the pile of shit that was their last offering.....

  6. Not sure hoe you guys listen to so much music.
I used to do a lot of country trips which helped me out, and now I get to listen to music on planes a lot and even more in non English speaking countries, but stil only get through maybe 30 to 40 albums a year. That includes EP's

It takes me around 5 to 7 listens to properly assess new music - to give it a change to eat into my brain and take hold.

Often the songs I instantly like, I tire of quickly, and the songs I thin k of as average on first listen turn out to be great.

I have a "new music" folder when I store albums which I haven't heard enough. The is way over 100 in there.

Once I feel I can pick the best songs I move it to my albums folder and copy the best tracks to another folder for a future compilation.

  7. Okay, you've forced me into it. If I made a compilation of the last 3 albums it'd be this:

    Firebirth;

    Remember It's Me

    The Story's Over

    Bang;

    Feel What I Feel

    Jump The Gun

    My Belief

    Silver;

    Stay With Me

    Miss Me

Seven tracks! That's not too bad, is it? And please keep in mind, we're talking about a 77% type EP, but listenable at least.

For the record, I've thrown a 54% on 'Silver' and never plan to hear it again.

    haha

Good on ya for having a go.

You got the best 2 songs off Silver.

Feel What I Feel would be the best song they've done on the last 3 albums IMO.

What I'd say about Silver is that I can see why many aren't massive fans.

Hopefully the 2 tracks you think are decent will get a run on a compilation you make sometime.

  8.

I made a 20 track cdr of my favorites from the Nic era. That's all I need! :)

Jeez you're generous to these guys. ;) I don't think I could make an EP. Heard this new one today, and I skipped through most of it from about song 3 or 4 onwards. Sadly, the band just means absolutely nothing to me at all. Cann't hold my interest for a moment. I think there was a tune called 'Miss me' which I thought had a good chorus hook, but it was so disjointed otherwise. To me it's just a really bland hard rock album.

That was my thought.........I've not heard Silver yet, but 20 songs from the new set up??! I reckon I could pick 2 from Bang and another couple maybe from Firebirth which hold up to Lee era Gotthard........

I'm with AlphaMale here. I could easily make a CD of great post Steve tracks.

    Mine would be

    FIREBIRTH

    Starlight

    Give Me Real

    Remember It's Me

    Yippie Aye Yay

    Tell Me

    Shine

    BANG

    Bang!

    Feel What I Feel

    C'est La Vie

    My Belief

    Maybe

    What You Get

    SILVER

    Stay With Me

    Beautiful

    Everything Inside

    Reason For This

    Not Fooling Anyone

    Miss Me

    Tequila Symphony No.5

    Only Love is Real

    My Oh My

  9. For me Miss Me is the best song on the CD, along with Stay With Me

    Other great tunes are

    Tequila Symphony No 5

    Everything Inside

    Beautiful

    Not fooling Anyone

    Reason For This

    Only Love Is Real

The first couple are average, then I don't skip until the end of the record, with the last few - tracks 13, 14 and 15 also being average.

Still a great hit/miss ratio if you ask me.

One of my kids so far isn't sold on it as she was expecting rockier heavier stuff.

I admit that it is on the softer side, but I don't mind that at all.

  10. I'm really looking forward to this album.

Would like to hear Ted with less rounded vocals, but there may be a reason he doesn't sing that way.

The music is a bit more hard rock than AOR compared to more recent Ted stuff, which i like.

As for the Cockroach comment before, I think it had a lot to do with how old it was when I got to hear it. What was it 10 years since it was made until it was released?

One day I probably should give it another go.

  11. OK, so I've listened to Silver, and I like it. A Lot

Not sure if it's because I don't preconceive what a bands next album will sound like, or maybe just that it's more my type of music than it is for some others here.

They were never going to be the same band they were with Steve.

I don't think comparing the eras is fair. Better to compare to the other 2 albums with Nic
