Lighten up dude. It was just a bit of fun making a stupid comment which to me was as stupid as you interpreting my "too AOR" as "pussy ass gay music" or whatever you said.
But my comment wasn't even serious anyway, it was just fun.Thank christ I pointed out that I just put a winkie smilie in some other thread. Otherwise you'd see that as an attack as well.
It's all fun, don't get so upset.
I thought we'd moved beyond this bickering and puffy chest stage *sad face*

Doesn't matter if it's Warrant or not.
You either like it or you don't

Are Dream Theater prog metal?
I tried so hard to get into them, but just couldn't
I have a few albums, from memory the only song i really took to was a cover of the Elton John song Love Lies Bleeding
Check out Circus Maximus. They are Progressive Metal, but they are very Melodic. I'd start with their album Nine.
Bookmarked for future investigation.
Just listened to a bit on YouTube and it made me realise that I do like some prog music.
Based on what I've heard I'd class Dracula - Swing Of Death as somewhat progressive, and I love that album.
-
Like this too,the whole old Warrant v new Warrant doesn't bother me,Mason is a good singer and this style suits him and indeed the other 4 original members for me.
Yep. I feel the same.
Not like we're getting the original band back anytime soon....

...and the lyrical content of the Kiss song?
You mean the Robin Beck song
Nope.
I'm talking about the Bonnie Tyler song, originally written by Paul Stanley, Desmond Child and Holly Knight for Bonnie's 1987 album Hide Your Heart, which was produced by Desmond Child.
Covered by many, many artists, after being released by Kiss in 1989 on Hot In The Shade before Ace Frehley recorded it without permission on Trouble Walkin'

Power metal is horrible.
And so is prog stuff.
Now that just smacks of someone saying that power metal is for bogans and far too heavy for them.

Geoff, your assumptions about me and AOR are wrong, but I don't think you quite understand how.
I actually said I don't like the AOR with too many synth keys (more than once)
Believe it or not, there are different degrees of AOR. You may like it all, but that doesn't mean others don't
I did take exception to your pigeon holing me as someone who classes AOR in the way you did. Not sure about classing any music in a 'gay' way, we're not at school in the 80's any more.
I've never slammed any music here. At times I've said it's not for me, but I certainly don't judge what other people like.Anyway, moving on.
To Silverkin, yes, please use my description of what I like to recommend any music you think will suit me.
That's why I'm here
I find it amazing that people here are able to listen to so much music.
I guess I listened to a lot before I had a family etc, but still, people seems to be engrossed in multiple bands every week here.
Personally I need to listen to an album 5 to 10 times before I know it enough to omit the weaker songs and keep the great ones.
Wish I had more time... -
I switched off at this point -
'Hey you, all hands up, rock n roll forever'
Zzzzz
Shame.
What you mean a shame he chose the most dire cliched lyrics of all time
Yes. Sometimes you need to force your way through it.
Case in point: It's Hard To Be A Rock N Roller - Wig Wam.
I hated that song with all my heart when I heard the lyrics. Then I heard it a couple of more times and it wormed its way into my head.
Probs my favorite song from them now.
Case in Point 2: How you felt when you first heard "hide your heart, hey hey hey, do do do do do do do do do"

Actually not too bad, wasnt a fan of his first solo disc but this is better
Same.

So some here categorise what they like to hear into 2 categories.
1. Music2. Not music
If that works for them.....
I like a cross section of many different TYPES of music, and don't like some.
Like most people, it is effective to be able to have words to describe what I like and what I don't.
I don't generally like rap, or most of the more extreme metals (death, hardcore, screamo, etc)I do like HARD ROCK.
This is my preference. My tastes lean towards (but are not limited to) sleazy, 80's style)
The debate about genres is kind of a waste of time, simply because, genres exist, and people refer to them.
This ain't gonna change.
If I stopped referring to genres to describe what I like and what I don't, it would become an essay of descriptive words to convey it.
I'd also hate threads to be posted here, and people say "this music is shit" with no reason why, for fear of daring to mention a genre and then be accused of being closed minded or limited in taste.
I'd rather them say "this music is shit, because it's screamo vocals" or because it's to thrashy, or too power ballady, or too rappy etc.
nothing wrong with that, don't let people try to convince you there is... -
That's a shame. Never really been too much of an issue in the past.
I'm not a huge fan of the heavy screachy Styrper any more.
THWTD was cool and all at the time, but these days I prefer the more mellow ballady stuffHist first solo album was exceptional.

I was listening to the last Sister album recently and especially the below song and couldn't help thinking how good this would have been with a singer that could actually sing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpGrScxWKQI
Anyone else have songs/albums/bands where they love the songs but feel the vocals ruined or lessened the enjoyment ?
Wow, that's fucking terrible.
I don't think I like this thread.
Rather avoid the shit...

I don't like the trad. country stuff at all, but there is a load of new country stuff around that is really very good which I listen to a lot and really enjoy. As Darkstone says above, take out a few of the instruments used, and it pretty much blends into AOR and Rock territory. Some great music coming out if you open your ears.
That's actually my biggest gripe with New Cuntry. It really isn't its own genre. It's just Pop or Rock music with a little twang.
But this is what I'm sating about genres etc
I got ripped on for saying something was "too AOR" for me
People can read in to that what they want, but simply, that was my way of describing it so people knew what I was on about.
Same here. with New Country or whatever. I don't know what you're on about because I really don't listen to Country. But by referring your comment to pop or rock with the twang I kind of get it.
Best example is the new solo album by Derek Davis.
People don't like it here, and I get that, but try and describe what type of music it is without digging in to genres etc.
I'd call it funky pop with a bit of blues soul and a touch of reggae.

I love country & western music.
My Mother and Grandmother also loved it.
I grew up on the old school stuff such as Marty Robbins, Tammy Wynette, Hank Williams Snr. amongst many others.
I love the new stuff and have found that over the years a lot of country music is almost indistinguishable from AOR.
I remember thinking when Bon Jovi's "These days" was released that it could almost be considered "Modern Country".
I remember seeing a doco of Def Lep (I think)
Pretty sure it was Def Lep and Joe was basically saying that all of their music was derived from C&W
He then played a song - probably Hysteria as a C&W song and it was very well suited.
-
Harold & Kumar White Castle
Always good for a laugh.
-
I like most forms of music, some more than others.
Not a big fan of C&W but I grew up hearing a lot of it and do like a lot of it. John Denver was always great.
So I can appreciate this....
For First Time Ever, 30 Most Famous Country Singers Release ONE Song Together
In honor of the 50th annual CMA Awards, the CMA Country Music Association released one amazing video. They brought together 30 most famous and award winning superstars to sing a mashup of country music classics. The result is spine-tingling good! The list of musicians featuring includes big names like Luke Bryan, Keith Urban Miranda Lambert, and we can not forget one and only Dolly Parton. These are just a few names and the list goes on with many more great artists. What you are about to hear is a mashup of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” with Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” and Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again.” -
Wrong thread. Sorry.
Was about Jon Stevens singing for AC/DC, potential April Fools Day, and then Angry Anderson and Dave Gleeson
You should have been there.... it was a lot of fun
-
Ironic that I drove past my local pub today advertising this...

wrong thraead
-
Great sounding tune but i really struggled with his vocals - could hardly understand a word.
Yep I'm still in that camp as I was earlier in the thread.
Shame because it's a killer song.
-
Angry would be great.
And Dave Gleeson has one place - with The Angels. See them if you get a chance - amazing.
Maybe it was an April 1 joke.
Fucking stupid day. Americans don't realise that we have to deal with it over 48 hours because of Facebook etc.
