  1. Nice lists and will serve as a good way to go back and check things I might've missed. Do have to say that I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be much love at all for the Defiants....Just based upon the other choices I would expect to see it in some top 5's. Another one not getting any love at all is Maverick - Big Red....Another album I absolutely can't get enough of and am still playing regularly. Top 5 for me this year would be: 1) Defiants 2) Pretty Maids - Kingmaker 3) Nordic Union 4) Maverick - Big Red 5) Tyketto - Reach
  2. Today...Pretty Maids - It's Comes Alive. I know it's late, but really just discovering these guys as I had never given them much attention before for whatever reason. Nordic Union got my attention then loved Kingmaker. I went back and got Pandemonium....Loved it. Bought Motherland, liked it quite a bit as well although not quite as much as the other two. So thought picking up It Comes Alive might be a good way to get some highlights from the rest of their career Pre-pandemonium with sort of an updated sound even if it is live. I'm not big on live albums but this is sounding pretty good to me.
  3. I thought about it...Like getting signed CDs... But I decided to stick with my $13 and free release day delivery from Amazon.
  4. Cool news....Will probably be pre-ordering this one as well....2017 is really looking great. Cover does look pretty shoddy but don't judge a book by it's cover I find it interesting they're basically shouting out and comparing to New Religion. I could be wrong but seems like I remember reading press before the last album and they were saying that one compared to NR also. I could be imagining that though. Either way, looks pretty good. I do like the Friday the 13th songs so will be interesting to hear some other songs. I saw a comment on FB from the band that the first single would probably be released in Mid March or so.
  5. First review I've really seen of this album...Sounding pretty good to me... http://heavyparadise.blogspot.gr/2017/02/review-tokyo-motor-fist-tokyo-motor.html Ted Poley (Danger Danger) and Steve Brown (guitarist of Trixter) or if you prefer Steve Brown and Ted Poley are two well-known musicians and very talented, that both with their main bands gained glory and fame back in the 80's. Also, both have a long-time friendship and the idea of to create a project has been in their minds for many years. So, Frontiers Records achieved to make their dream a reality and nowadays they present a brand new project, Tokyo Motor Fist, that sounds the perfect combination of both Danger Danger and Trixter. The line-up completed by Greg Smith on bass and Chuck Burgi on drums. What we have here is an 11-track album that will please both fans of the above mentioned bands but, also, every single fan of the melodic hard rock scene. The up-tempo "Pickin' Up The Pieces" kicks-off things here impressively with the voice of Ted Poley in top form and a harmony that brings back the glory late 80's sound with style. Next, with "Love Me Insane" the boys deliver an edgier rocker, somewhere between Trixter and Danger Danger latest works, that must be played in maximum volume! The party is on fire with "Shameless" that includes an ultra-catchy chorus line enough to make you push the repeat button again and again!!! "Love" is a track that is movin' to some modern rock paths but once again it is marvelous. Commercial as it gets with a Def Leppard vibe in it (especially the riff) and a heavenly melody in it, "Love" will make you love it at 'first sight'!!! "Black And Blue", "You Are My Revolution" and the heavier "Put Me To Shame" rock good while in "Don't Let Me Go" the guys deliver a huge power ballad that sounds like it jumped out from the late 80's!!! Yes it' that good!! With "Done To Me", TMF unleash their big guns and at the end they create a killer heavy and melodic tune that includes some bad-ass riffs, powerful vocals and a rhythm section tight as hell!! A 'blast from the past' album that will make you love it, that's for sure! Melodic hard rock bliss in an old-fashioned way from two very talented musicians that still got the spark inside them!!! Rating : 9/10
  6. This second track has really grown on me.....Can't seem to get it out of my head. I think part of the issue with these guys is they really have a high bar....Armageddonize was just awesome and will be really tough to top. I just want a solid melodic rock album and these first two songs have it off to a great start.
  7. Pretty decent I guess....Good to hear a little edge back in them. I had a spell at one point where I liked these guys but have sorta turned on them the past 4-5 years and removed them from my radar. Amazes me that these guys have found so much commercial success over the year while so many other bands that we talk about on this site do melodic rock much better and can't get much attention at all.
  8. Agree with the others...familiar formula but don't care one bit. If something isn't broke they don't need to fix it. This sounds great to me and can't wait to get this album in my hands and crank it properly
  9. Must be the next song they're releasing....Think full version is out tomorrow. Sounds fantastic to me
  10. For me, not liking this second song as much as the first. To me, this one sounds more "poppy". I also am hearing the accent more in the vocals on this track which I think is impacting me a little. It's still okay though and is the kind of song that could grow on me depending on the rest of the album. I'm kinda on the fence with this one....I normally like just a tiny bit more "edge" than this has. I need to hear a couple more songs.
  11. I liked the first song...Looking forward to the second. Not a pre order for me yet though...Need to hear a couple more songs.
  12. I cant believe no one else is commenting on the production. Sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. A big hollow one Marvellous song, worrying production. I definitely know what you mean by the production. It's not as "clean" sounding as I'd like but it makes the songs more "raw" which I'm all for Sounds real good. They are 3 for 3. I have high hopes for this group and album I can hear it too in the songs...Bit thin, wish the drums were more prevalent... But it's just not really bothering me and I suspect it will sound better once I get the CD and listen to it properly.
  13. Very good observation...That opening reminds me of Let It Go. I see some in other places still knocking the production but it sounds okay to me. I guess I'm just not a stickler on production most of the time as long as it's done reasonably decent. I suppose it could knock it down a few points but good songs are good songs This is exactly the kind of cookie-cutter, hook-filled, bubble-gum melodic rock I like
  14. Pre-order done. Really like all these tunes and this one might just be my favorite yet. Sounding like this album is going to be a contender and setting the bar high for the likes of Eclipse, H.e.a.t, etc.
  15. It was much better than 'Riot Avenue.' Not imo - too throw away. All I really liked was 'Hell Raising Woman', 'Girl of the 80s' and 'I Missed the Mark'............the second half in particular was really weak, outside of the pointless re-record. I sorta agree with you both... Definitely better than Riot Avenue for me....That album just did absolutely nothing for me. But while I did like the last album, agree that the second half was pretty weak and it's not really an album I've returned to much after the initial couple months of listening to it. They've done some good stuff though so will be giving it a fair chance.
  16. Agree with you on these two songs versus Ted's solo stuff....I just haven't been able to get into his solo stuff outside of the off song here or there but I like these two songs. I really think Steve Brown's touches have something to do with it. I think another new song is supposed to be released this week so looking forward to hearing that to see if it can be 3 for 3.
  17. Nice...Liked the last album...Will be interesting to see how the new lineup follows it up.
  18. I think one that comes to mind for me over the past handful of years is Living On The Run from H.e.a.t....melodic rock bliss for me.
  19. Currently in my rotation... Maverick - Big Red Maverick - Quid Pro Quo Pretty Maids - Kingmaker And for Christmas I got Motherland and Pandemonium from Pretty Maids. I've made myself a mix CD of those two discs with the songs I like best and combined it really makes for one fantastic album Not that they both aren't good but there's a few songs on each of them that just don't do too much for me.
  20. This is cheating, according to Geoff! Really? Why? I don't understand. Anyway some cool tunes but quite different to mine. I thought 'Falling' was one of the weaker songs on an album I didn't really get into anyway... but you don't seem to have been alone in your adoration for that song. It does nothing for me, personally. Same with 'Save me tonight' in context of that Defiants disc. A solid (very straight forward, I must say - very basic) ballad, but again I don't think it'd be in my top half of that disc. As for the Dan Reed tune, I just thought that album was a disaster, that song included. But aside from that, the Poley song as well as Pretty Maids, First Signal and Wigelius tunes would all be in my top 20-30. Save me Tonight is all about the melody in the chorus. genius imo. and that closing solo is perfection. Yeah mate, it's a nice song. Don't get me wrong. But jeez, you gotta admit it's pretty generic. Right down to the song name itself... But a nice song, nevertheless. I tell you what I really liked about that Defiants albums though, was all the little extras they threw into the songs - the bits where they slow down, Laine does some quirky vocal.........it wasn't just the normal verse chorus verse chorus like normal. That's one of the things I really like about this ballad...........that part where it slows right down and stops dead. then comes back in - I love that bit, and then followed by the outro chorus and that solo....its just marvellous. Gives me goosebumps in the car when I listen at night. That's a sign of a great song imo. I agree about that Defiants album and it's why it was probably my top album of 2016...Lots of hooks and Laine shows a lot of different sides on that album....Just find it very easy and interesting to listen to. As for my favorite songs of 2016, ones coming to my mind in no particular order: Falling - Nordic Union Hypocrisy - Nordic Union Take Me Back - Defiants When The Lights Go Down - Defiants Face The World - Pretty Maids Humanize Me - Pretty Maids Bulls Eye - Pretty Maids Inferno - Treat Endangered - Treat The One - Maverick Forever - Maverick Aim For The Head - Cruzh Hard TO Get - Cruzh Tearing Down The Sky - Tyketto Part of Me - Palace When We Were Young - Tango Down
  21. LOL ^ It's a downright shame what these guys have turned into. I swear I hear a Country-ish twang in almost all their songs these days. These guys were one of my favorite bands back in the day and have seen them quite a few times live....But over the past 5 years or so they've become completely dead to me. Honestly I wouldn't take this new album if somebody were passing it out for free...And have zero interest in ever seeing them again live.
  22. I was lukewarm on the first album from these guys....It was okay but didn't like it enough to buy the album and only downloaded the few songs I liked. And I haven't really returned to those songs very often outside of maybe Need You To Understand. I think that I struggle at times with the vocals and accent on some of their songs and it holds them back a little for me. Not sure on this newest sample either....I'd like to hear the whole song before really judging but can't say it's overwhelming me.
  23. Exactly my thoughts. Sorta reminds me a little of Runaways that added to Armgaeddonize on the deluxe edition. It's the kind of melodic rock I want from Eclipse though....Good stuff.
  24. Well...That song sounds pretty well done to me.....really nice.
  25. Yeah...Can't say it's really bothering me much either. I've seen others complaining about it a lot though. I suppose it does seem like the drums are pretty thin in the sound but I really doubt it bothers me. I'm too busy with all the melodies and hooks to notice it
