  1. from odayrox2: * The story goes that Melodic Rockers QUADRA NIXX were formed in the '80s in the North Carolina area, and although the group achieved regional and national notice during the early Nineties, as many very good acts from the East Coast never got signed by a major label. You gotta move to California to get a chance back then. But it's never too late, and QUADRA NIXX is releasing their selftitled debut in 2014. QUADRA NIXX is, pure and simple, second half of the '80s / early '90s US Melodic Rock. The band love Journey's Raised On Radio era, this is obvious in the highly harmonized choruses - 4 of the 5 members provide backing vocals - and of course, you have keyboard infusions all over, catchy refrains and a pumping rhythm section. Guitarist Marc Jackson is the man who delivers some edge to the songs with a - guess what - a Neal schon style in the rhythm guitars and riffs, although during the well elaborated & effective solos he brings to mind White Lion's Vitto Bratta. On the other hand, the lead vocals of Jan Fields are inspired by Steve Perry, however his timbre is more in the middle spectre and very personal. His way of singing has a dynamic and a expression that would have made the man a star in 1984. more samples: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2a7agq_quadra-nixx-samples_school?start=2 You can't go wrong with ultra-melodic, swirling keyboard filled tunes like "Keep The Fire Burning", "Hollywood", "Key To Your Heart", the AORish midtempo "Miranda" or the power ballad "Steal My Heart". If the title "Look Who's Crying Now" is not a Journey homage, then what... however the song is one of the more rocking numbers on the album with a hard rock edge, as the very White Lion-esque "Daddy's Little Girl" and closer "Never Left", combining Steve Perry like harmony vocals and a sharp riff. QUADRA NIXX is a fun-static, wonderful trip back to the late '80s / early '90s US Melodic Hard Rock. Although production could be better, you don't care as all the songs - and I mean all - featured on this CD are Top Notch for the genre, with great arrangements, terrific harmony vocals and golden choruses. Add to that the fact the quintet are really, really skilled musicians, performing on high level throughout. This is a must for any fan of the genre - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. 01 - What If I 02 - Daddy's Little Girl 03 - Hollywood 04 - Keep The Fire Burning 05 - Key To Your Heart 06 - Calling For You 07 - Look Who's Crying Now 08 - Miranda 09 - Steal My Heart 10 - Never Left Jan Fields – Lead Vocals Marc Jackson – Guitar, Vocals Tim King – Keyboards, Vocals Jon Young – Bass, Vocals Jack Perry – Drums BUY IT ! www.cdbaby.com/cd/quadranixx1 .
  2. I am about to spin this for the first time.
  3. Okay.... after grading just the 7 new tracks, it achieved a robust rating of 56%. And it was "dragged" up to 56% by the first track "Believers Of The Day". That's the only song that was halfway decent.
  4. The new Lynch Mob gets about a 60% for me. Pure rubbish again.
  5. Thanks man! Appreciate it!! And GO STEELERS!!! (At least last week..... needed you to beat the Bengals to help the Ravens!)
  6. This is one terrible disc. I mean bad. One listen to this disc has me disinterested in the next Lynch Mob CD on Frontiers next year..... not that I was very interested in this after Smoke & Mirrors and the Stone Mountain sessions garbage. RUBBISH
  7. I wouldn't go that far. It's a great tune though. Looking forward to the whole disc.
  8. Some good, some bad. A pretty good listen though for fans of 80's hard rock.
  9. How are you? Terrible. I don't know if you noticed, but that link doesn't work. Exactly. Which is why I brought it up. I was hoping martinsane would see the post, and reup the goods. I would love to hear it!! Been on a Salty Dog kick lately, which is actually why I searched the message board for them.
  10. Hahaha.... love it!! This band rulez!!!
  11. My uploads: from odayrox 2: * APRIL FOOL was formed in early 1988 around the Philadelphia area by drummer Walt Kaye. The band suffered several lineup changes including some Baton Rouge ex / future musicians, until 1989 when the found a stable foundation and recorded their debut "Playin' To Win". The album was released by themselves only on cassette, and now FnA Records are reissuing this 'lost recording' for the first time on CD, remastered from the original master tapes and with 2 bonus tracks. April Fool then hit the club circuit hard while the song "Bad Boy Willie" was receiving a strong radio airplay, resulting in the band's live concert following starting to grow. "Playin' to Win" was released in the fall of 1989, sold out, and a second pressing followed. Opening shows for bands like Heaven, Britny Fox, TT Quick, the very first Bang Tango or Heaven's Edge, plus headlining their own shows at venues from New York to Baltimore, pushed sales even further. Videos for the singles "Cover Girls" & "Next Time Around" were produced and the band appeared on New York City cable television with the two videos/singles gaining airplay on mainstream & indie radio alike. There were conversations with many recording labels for a national album release, but good luck eluded April Fool. Why this band wasn't signed and became massive is beyond me. Listening "Playin' To Win" you find a highly professional recording full of catchy, hook ridden '80s American hard rock that is at least as good, and most times better, than many bands who made it big back in the day. There isn't a bad song here, all very well arranged and performed with passion, with a singer sporting all the needed pipes & swagger for this style and a flashy, talented guitarist dropping hot solos and sharp riffs. There are crowd pleasers in "Bad Boy Willie", "Steppin' Out", "Take Away The Heartache" and "Bahama Mama", all ready for big arenas. This remastered release of "Playin' To Win" really worth the reissue, as April Fool was a band that 'got it'. It's pure late '80s American Hard Rock plenty of hooks, and the quality of the original recording it's above the bar for an indie. Really, really cool. 01 - Cover Girls 02 - Playin' To Win 03 - Take Away The Heartache 04 - Bahama Mama 05 - Help Me Understand 06 - Next Time Around 07 - Steppin' Out 08 - Borderline 09 - Sleepless Nights 10 - Bad Boy Willie 11 - Can't Stop Rockin' 12 - Hey Molly (bonus track) 13 - Chain Of Love (bonus track) Dave Stradling: Lead Vocals, Keyboards Roberto Lombardi: Bass, Background Vocals, Percussion George Smith: Guitar, Background Vocals Walt "Wiggy" Kaye: Drums, Percussion BUY IT ! fnarecords.net/index.php/playin2win.html .
