  6. Next in the series is BARRACUDA's "Open Fire" from 1989. Only took one song for me to know this band was awesome. If you haven't checked it out, do so immediately!!! Here are some of my favorites:
  7. Just gave it a full spin and I'm digging most of it. Agree with you that this is as close as they have come to their classic material.
  8. How do you remaster a bootleg?? Anyway..... BON JOVI recording "Rockin' In Cleveland, 1984" (The Legendary Ohio Broadcast) has just been re-released in a "HD Remastered Edition". Already considered an 'official bootleg', the album even has been released some years ago on vinyl LP. It may look incoherent: a bootleg... remastered? But let me tell you this is true. The original recording was done very, very well, and now it has been improved, cleaned & polished, and it sounds excellent. The show was recorded at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland on 17th March 1984 and broadcast by WMMS FM, and it's a real gem because showcases BON JOVI at their very origins. It takes place a couple of months after their debut album "Bon Jovi" was released. "Rockin' In Cleveland, 1984" is loaded with atmosphere and youthful energy as Jon and his boys played most of the tracks from their self-entitled 1983 debut album, which contained raw and excitedly dynamic rock songs, a fair few miles away from the much more 'safe' material that they dish out today. Jon's voice is so young sounding on this early recording and it sends you on a hard rocking, guitar busting emotional ride through classics such as 'Runaway', 'Shot Through the Heart' or 'She Don't Know Me', which sound even better in these live versions, and it's great to hear lesser-known numbers like 'Come Back' and 'Take You Higher', the latter of which was not originally released on the studio album. They don't play many of these early songs live on the stage today, which makes this release even more a novelty. The song that stood out for me is the aforementioned 'She Don't Know Me' which hasn't been played since 1987. They are reluctant to play it again because they didn't write it. I think the album version was great but this live version is 10 times better and the song takes you on a roller coaster of emotion. "Rockin' In Cleveland, 1984 [HD Remastered Edition]" is a must have for the ultimate BON JOVI collector, well for everyone who loves classic '80s melodic hard rock. It shows you how tight and brilliant they were since the beginning, and why this band ruled in this genre all over the decade. If you have the previous release of this album, do yourself a favor and replace it with this Remastered Edition, it sounds million bucks. HIGHLY Recommended 01. Intro / Breakout 02. Come Back 03. 9. Check out the solo on Rain. Starts around 3:50. A minute plus of Akira at his best. Very reminiscent of their earlier sound.
  10. Always loved the soulful playing of Takasaki. He freaking whails on the guitar!
  11. You should really give Soldier Of Fortune with Mike Vescera a chance. It's an amazing disc.
  12. Rain is killer. Been on repeat for me. Great song!
  13. Pioneer Japanese act LOUDNESS will release their new album, "Rise To Glory", world-wide on January 26, 2018. Yes, thankfully they have decided to release the new CD at the same time in Japan, Europe and America (the last North American release was On The Prowl in 1991). "Rise To Glory" is packed with biting riffs, melody and positive vibes, mixing classic Loudness with a modern sound. It’s a refreshed and vital Loudness we meet on this album. Some of the songs are a bit progressive, not least noticeable on the instrumental track “Kama Sutra”. As much as I love the straightforward classic metal / hard rock of much of Loudness’ back catalogue, it is great to hear new influences in the new music from this skilled band. "Rise To Glory" somewhat reminds me of classic Loudness mixed with the more spaced out hard rock version of the band we heard on some of their records in the 90s, when they had several different short-lived line-ups (including shouter Michael Vescera) with guitarist Akira Takasaki the only constant member. I have always felt that Takasaki has a unique guitar sound & tone and "Rise To Glory" sure showcases it. Combine that guitar punch with the stellar vocals of Minoru Niihara and you have a killer wall of sound coming at you. Here are some standout tracks: the anthemic “Why and For Whom”, the kickin' “I’m Still Alive” and also “Go For Broke”, which is reminiscent of that '80s metal we all love so well. “Rain” is my favourite track on the album. It’s a wonderful midtempo blending a semi-ballad feel with heaviness. Simply splendid. “Go For Broke” is a great rocker of a song, and “I’m Still Alive” is a fantastic and energetic hard n' heavy track. Loudness is indeed still alive. You have an exclusive Europe / US bonus titles "Let's All Rock", a sharp hard rocker recalling the band's more 'Americanized' sound from the late '80s. There will be an expanded edition as well with the extra CD Samsara Flight - Re-Recorded Classics, already featured some time ago in its Japanese release. In "Rise To Glory" there’s still plenty of Loudness’ trademark classic metal in the mix, but the band now lives in a broader, deeper, mature musical world with all sorts of influences. I love it. Loudness is not trying to reinvent the wheel with their new music, which is fine by me, they are just adding another layer to their legacy of great rock n’ roll. Strongly Recommended 01. 8118 02. 14. Cool man. That's really the point of these threads. To turn people on to the stuff they might have missed.
  15. One of my best purchases in 1990 was the fine debut output from the band ROXXI. Bought this not knowing a thing about them. Ending up in constant rotation in the tape deck! Some of my favorites from this long forgotten gem:
