To back that up....QUESTION - Why is it that some of the highest price indies that suck still fetch big bucks?... ANSWER - Because those releases make a collection "look good"... it makes the buyer feel like he is better then other collectors. It's about the VALUE... not the band or the music. I would agree with that to a certain extent. There are several cd's out there that are "trophy cd's". But at the same time there are several that don't fetch near what they used to (Shelter, KK Wilde, TLC, etc). I guess word eventually circulated that these cd's don't live up to the hype, & the price plummeted. Who knows?

Maybe so, but I'm speaking only for myself. I collect cd's because I LOVE music...specifically 80's metal/AOR music. Isn't that what brought us all to this board in the first place? I don't think I've ever read a post where someone was bragging about their collection being bigger/better than someone else's. The thing is, there's always going to be someone with more than you. That's why I said that I was only concerned about my collection. I don't worry about what anyone else has...why bother?

That's all well & good, but if a seller is honest about what he's selling in the first place, none of that's necessary. I guess it's just frustrating having to deal with it. It's almost gotten to the point where I expect the worst whenever I receive a cd in the mail nowadays, & hope that I'm pleasently surprised. It's sad, really...

Problem is that a lot of the time you're at the mercy of the seller. Reputable seller (& by that I mean a very good feedback rating)...images of legit product...description saying that it's an original...and you still receive a bootleg. What's a buyer to do?

Paying $13.00 a disc is no big deal...it's when you fork out $80.00 for a supposed original that turns out to be a boot that I get pissed off.

Just checked my domestic (USA) Take What You Want CD and it has the markings you state. Also checked my domestic Over The Edge CD version 2 w/black inner ring and it has the markings you state. Just wanted to corroborate/confirm this. 'Preciate it guys...thanks for the info.

My mistake...then there are 3 versions out there.... Retraction...this number refers to the "Over The Edge" cd, NOT "Take What You Want". Does anybody have a legit domestic copy of "Take What You Want" that they could post the info on?

This whole thing started because a Hurricane cd I just bought that IS A BOOT came from you...end of story. I just received some more info...apparently the REAL domestic pressings of "Take What You Want" have this number on the inner ring: DIDY-003098

Yep, that's gotta be him. Whenever he would send me trade lists, they ALWAYS looked like that. All caps with the "..." in between. And as anyone who's traded with him can attest to, it's no surprise there's a pack of smokes in the picture, either. Maybe he did that on purpose, leaving little clues behind?

Anyone else with an original confirm these #'s? That would be a big help to sorting this mess out.

The 2 red flags on my copies were the over-powering "new" smell & the colors of the band pics on both the back insert & backside of the front insert. On both my copies, the colors were too dark...the skin tone of the guy on the far left was almost orange, fer chrissakes. I guess for me it boiled down to a gut feeling that "something didn't look right". That's why I mailed it to Jarred for a second opinion. I'd be interested to know if someone who is 100% certain that their copy is legit could verify what exactly it says around the inner ring of their copy...both words & numbers. You're kidding, right?

I just checked my copy and it says Discovery on the inside of mine...so I think I'm good. Unfortunately, that isn't the litmus test for this cd...both my boots had that on it as well...

Sam, that's such a horse-shit cop out it's hillarious. If people were up front & honest about exactly what they were selling in the first place, these problems wouldn't exist, would they? Believe it or not, there are some people out there who want the genuine article...not some piece of shit knock off that's being passed off as the real thing.

Well, this one that passed through your hands IS a boot...no doubt about it...it's been confirmed by more than one person. Did all the others you sold have that "fresh from the factory" smell, cause this one sure did. And I never said that the real ones didn't say "made by Discovery systems", did I? It would be easy enough to duplicate that from the original as well, wouldn't it...that was my point.

Well, I've now been burned twice on one of these. The past 2 auctions I've won have both turned out to be bootlegs. I even forwarded the first copy to another member of the board (who I'm not going to name...he can weigh in if he's so inclined) & he assured me that my suspicions were correct. Both copies were exactly the same...both the inserts and cd had the "fresh ink" smell to them...all the colors were way too bright, especially skin tones. They appeared almost orange. And both the discs said "MADE BY DISCOVERY SYSTEMS - AN AMERICAN COMPANY 0D40100" around the innner ring. Now the interesting part...here's the email I got back from the seller: "hi, I will refund your money once the cd has been received. I purchased this cd through VEGASCDS about a year ago. I am sorry that you think that it is a bootleg, I have purchased many items from him and they are all legit. Larry" Now, I even voiced my concerns about Vegas selling muliple copies of this cd last year and this was Sam's response http://heavyharmonies.ipbhost.com/index.ph...ndpost&p=203116 Now either Larry (the guy who sold me the bootleg) or Sam is lying.... Oh yeah...the seller who's trying to pass off the "original" Hurricane cd is "larrylove97"...
