  2. Yes to both. A quick search shows that you posted in the thread discussing the album.
  3. The problem with today's LPs is that many of them are made from the same overblown digital source as the CD, complete with squashed dynamics. So you're really not gaining anything other than nostalgia by playing the vinyl. Unless I have confirmation that the vinyl was mastered differently from the CD, I'll stick with the CD. It's not worth the gamble to find out for myself. Some of those LPs are expensive.
  4. Sure. Although only 11 people have viewed this thread, I thought more people would have taken a shot at this. Most of these are songs we've all heard before.
  5. How well can you recognize a song by its non-musical intro? Give it a shot. Post your answers. Most of these come from a similar quiz I had on my website (now offline) many years ago. I added a few more to include bands that are frequently discussed around here. I have over 30, but I'll start with 8 (the forum limit for a single post). If no one guesses any, I'll post hints. If this goes well, I'll post more. 1 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/101.mp3 2 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/102.mp3 3 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/103.mp3 4 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/104.mp3 5 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/105.mp3 6 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/106.mp3 7 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/107.mp3 8 http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/14/2142802/108.mp3
  6. I couldn't agree more. It's part of the whole "louder is better" mentality among music producers. To them (and to Lars Ulrich), this sounds "smokin'".
  7. Breakin' Free Caught in a Dream Edison's Medicine... What You Give Heaven's Trail Lazy Days, Crazy Nights Love Song Paradise The Way it Is Modern Day Cowboy ...Thomas A.
  8. I'm not a big enough fan to fill the whole CD. 1. Shame Shame Shame 2. Dance 3. Giving Yourself Away 4. Lay it Down 5. One Step Away 6. Lovin' You's a Dirty Job 7. Back For More 8. Round and Round 9. Over the Edge 10. Lack of Communication 11. You're in Love 12. Wanted Man
  9. This one's pretty good, but I thought "Beer Money" was bit better.
  10. Staind goes Country. Love this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSNp1acn3VE
  11. The wife seem to think I should surrender my manhood for liking these guys. But in my defense, they weren't quite as "boy band" when I first heard them. I'll admit it's unusual to have them in my collection along side the hard rock and modern rock I otherwise listen to. I guess it's sort of a guilty pleasure. What do you think? "Bleed", from the first CD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l6HE4cmXfI "Honestly", from 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e8L_Z0a_kQ New single: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9pWgjSLLag
  12. Y&T - Ten Lovers The Y&T poll inspired me to queue this one up. Classic.
  13. I like "Who Says You Can't Go Home", but this is pretty much my impression of Bon Jovi nowadays: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGqtdGuoCHY
  14. I'm hearing this band for the first time and started with this CD (it's the only one on Spotify). Aside from "Cha-Ching", I'm loving it. If you're saying this isn't their best work, I'll definitely have to find the others.
  15. Like Hinder? Check out Angels Fall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0KfwJC_i6c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlN6i1KQfts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGJwgOabiwE
  16. Well sure, but there has to be a limit to what you're willing to endure. Is there any point in which you're so distracted by the horrible sound quality, it overrides your ability to enjoy what you're hearing? How bad could I make "Back For the Attack" sound before you'd refuse to listen? Would you enjoy it just the same with clipping, distortion, white noise and no dynamics? How much of that could I introduce before you'd say, "mercy"? Hoodoo, Hellraiser and Rock the Block were plenty compressed, and Hellraiser even had a slight bit of distortion, but it wasn't enough to distract me from the music. This one, however, was too much for me.
  17. That would be a good thing. Avoid almost anything that's been remastered. Unless you're getting something from an audiophile label like Mobile Fidelity, this is the treatment they get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ Stick to the originals. If you want it louder, just turn up the volume.
  18. I never noticed Pretty Maids until I checked out Pandemonium a couple of years ago. After that I listened to their whole discography in a span of about 2 days. Nothing really caught my ear. Pink Floyd surprises me on your list. You don't like anything else on "The Wall"? I had Led Zeppelin on my list too (In the Evening), but removed it before posting. I thought I'd get some serious negative feedback for putting them on the list. I was going to make this the "Killer Songs on Sucky Albums" thread, but eventually decided that it wasn't fair to say an album sucked just because I personally didn't like it. For example, I know how many of you like "World Upside Down" and I can see why - it's well-crafted. But "Rock Bottom" is the only song I like from it. I guess I'm just not a huge AOR fan. I was never much into Sleaze either, that's why Vain and GNR are on the list. My choice of Papa Roach might be unfair because I haven't heard all of their material. My biggest problem with that Blue Tears CD is that they went a little crazy with the reverb when they recorded it. If it weren't for that, I might be able to appreciate it a little more. I even gave it another spin after we discussed it in December, but I just couldn't do it. As for Faber Drive, I'll give "You and I Tonight" a 9.9 (just shy of perfection for the bad grammar in the title) . I only listened to their CDs once. Maybe I'll give 'em another shot.
  19. Are there any bands you don't really like, or listen to, but have put out one song you think is great? I just skimmed through my collection and came up with these. I'm not saying these bands suck. I can easily see why people like them. They're just not my preferred sound. I skipped independent bands, or bands that have only 1 or 2 albums unless they've been discussed around here. Accept - Balls to the Wall Blue Tears - Crush Bonrud - Bullet in the Back The Darkness - Love is Only a Feeling Europe - Rock the Night Faber Drive - You and I Tonight The Fixx - Red Skies FM - Hollow Foo Fighters - Wheels Green Day - Good Riddance Guns n Roses - Civil War The Kinks - Destroyer Love/Hate - Blackout in the Red Room Megadeth - Almost Honest Papa Roach - Reckless Pretty Maids - Old Enough to Know Puddle of Mudd - We Don't Have to Look Back Now Stryper - Lady Supertramp - Take the Long Way Home Talking Heads - And She Was Tool - Sober Train - I Am Vain - 1000 Degrees W.A.S.P. - Blind in Texas Yes - Changes
  20. I was wondering when you'd get to this one. It's the only .38 Special CD I have. Also still have the vinyl that I bought when I was 16. It would be another year before I got my first CD player. I'm not a big .38 Special fan, but this one has one of my all-time favorite songs on it - "Hearts on Fire". It's one of those tunes that sounds better the louder you play it. I love cranking that one up with the headphones on. "Somebody Like You" is excellent too. I never paid much attention to the rest of the album.
  21. A good way to ruin any killer tune is to fade it out at the end. Finish it the same way you would if you played it live. Dropping the volume at the end just sounds like they were too lazy to come up with a good finish.
