Once again, this is just a matter of opinion. And the fact that a cover does not improve on the original is neither here nor there. If it is still enjoyable, then in is not an "utter waste" now is it. Yes some covers are just cash grabs or lazy ways of recording new material without all the work that goes into writing a song, but a lot of covers are done because bands or artists want to show their inspirations.

As long as a cover is not god awful (go listen to Paul Dianno cover Symphony of destruction), and they are enjoyable, they are not an utter waste.

of course it's opinion, what isn't.

For me most are a waste of time. I'll listen once and probably never again. On an album I'll just skip 🤷‍♂️

That really isn't the point though is it.. opinion and fact are two very different things.

not where covers are concerned.  We've covered this before but there are only a handful of covers in the history of music which improve on the original.

this one doesn't either, but it's decent.

  3. So out of interest, aside from Geoff, what does everyone else think of the latest Kissin Dynamite album?

My take on it is songs like Not the End, Only the Dead, Yoko Ono, Hallelujah, No One Dies, Defeat It, Voodoo Spell were all awesome slabs of melodic rock and miles better than virtually any other song they'd ever released??

Add to that 2 great ballads in Gone for Good & Scars and you have a consistently great melodic rock album.

So guys, am I right. or am I the only twat liking this thing?? 🤔

Yeah to each their own. Just never thought I'd see the day I get slapped with a cold trout for not including a Kissin' Dynamite album in my list, lol. I had a quick revisit to see if I missed something, but I didn't. For me, it's just another one of their albums. Possibly is their best, but I could kind of reverse my commentary about Reckless Love for them. KD at their best still doesn't do that much for me, I have to admit. I honestly wasn't aware of the enthusiasm for the album, even though, as I look back at recent posts, it seems to be in quite a few lists. I didn't even notice that.

I don't see outside of this forum, but is it rating highly on lists from other voices in the genre? I can honestly say I don't get it, but then I always seem to be out of step with stuff like this, which is fine by me. Like I say, couldn't have guessed in a million years that not having KD in my favourite albums would ever be an issue, lol.

    its not an issue lol

    Odd choice of word.

if you don't like then fair dos

Haha, to each their own indeed. Madness to me was just today, the sudden realisation that after churning out half a dozen below average albums, and not changing anything dramatically, Kissin’ Dynamite are now a band worth talking about? Definitely a memo I was not aware of. ;)

I agree entirely prior to this pretty weak, but man they nailed this one imo. I love nearly every track.

Haha, no mate. I wish I could forget about it, but sadly I couldn't.

Haha, I jest in order to emphasise my point in a hilarious manner.

Just checked, for interest, and I had it ranked at 154 on my list, still sitting behind albums I much prefer, like Crossing Rubicon, Iconic, Wildness, Loud Solution, Streetlore, Muna, Taboo, LA Cobra, Mr Zsolt, Toy Cannon, JSS, Nasson, Lone Wolf, Tango Down etc. etc. I assume the point is made. Aside from the many I already mentioned in my summary there's even more that I didn't mention that I prefer to Kissin' Dynamite.

They're just one of those bands. You'll find one or two strong songs on their album and a whole bunch of okay stuff. It's the formula for most bands... they just do it a little worse than the rest. ;)

    madness imo.

most of those albums you mention above are pure shit, but to each their own :)

just put that to the romantic restrospective return to what you loved at the time.
Not sure anyone here is qualified to difinitively make a call, it's just personal opinions.

    of course it's personal opinions.

I'm sure some techy person would explain that a cd has some better frequency response or something, but they didnt sound better, simple as.

How vinyl sounds now I can't comment on as not bought vinyl since 1987.

I believe that is actually false. If you spend as much energy and money in your sound system for your CD collection as you do your LPs, I believe you'll find the CDs are better.

Obviously, I don't have the experience to know firsthand, so I only say this because a buddy of mine who graduated from an audio recording school told me that compact disc was an objectively better medium for storing information than vinyl. And so, when two albums recorded on CD and vinyl are played back to back, CD will always sound truer.

You also have to take in account that mastering is different for the two mediums. Albums that were recorded and mastered for vinyl typically sounded better than when they were later released on compact disc. Unless they were remastered for the new format.

just referring to my own experience mate.

i had 100s of albums on vinyl and basically rebought them all on CD.

Just an easier medium to play and store.

Did the cds sound better. No. Not in my opinion.

The vinyl had a richer more open sound with much more depth. The CDs sounded clear as a bell but more compressed in some way.

    Anyway everyone hears something different.

Hell I listen to compressed as fuck audio on a smartphone now lol.

The things we do for convenience.
